At 1 :00 o'clock P. M. the City Clerk was present in the
Council Chambers and in the absence of the City Council being
present announced that the Members of the Council would appear
in due time.
At 1 :50 o'clock P. M. the meeting was called to order
by Kenneth R. Benfield, Mayor.
ROLL CALL
Councilmen Present: Baker, Frederick, Gordon, Meschuk
and Mayor Benfield
Councilmen Absent: None
It was moved by Councilman Meschuk, seconded by Council-
man Frederick, that the regular order of business be dispensed.
Carried.
The City Clerk reported that the returns of the General
Municipal Election held on Tuesday, the 8th day of April, 1958,
in the City of El Segundo, California, were then, and had been,
in her possession in the envelopes containing them, in the same
condition as when received. The City Clerk announced that she
had received from George E. Gordon, Jr. and Robert W. Frederick
their statements of campaign expenditures and at their request,
and on their behalf, had filed the same with the Los Angeles
County Clerk, pursuant to the terms and provisions of Part IV,
Division VII of the Elections Code. Said Clerk then presented
said returns to the City Council at this time at this meeting.
The City Council then proceeded forthwith to publicly
examine and canvass said returns, all as provided by law. Upon
the completion of said canvass by said Council, it was moved by
Councilman Baker, seconded by Councilman Gordon, that the follow-
ing resolution be adopted:
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF EL SEGUNDO, CALIFORNIA,
DOES HEREBY RESOLVE, DECLARE, FIND AND DETERMINE AS FOLLOWS:
First: That said regular general municipal election was
held and conducted in said City of El Segundo, California, on
Tuesday, the 8th day of April, 1958, in time, form and manner
as required by law;
Second: That there were ten (10) voting precincts estab-
lished within the said city for the purpose of holding said
election, consisting of the consolidation of the regular vot-
ing precincts established by the Board of Supervisors of Los
Angeles County, California, for holding of general State and
County elections;
Third: That (a) the whole number of ballots cast in said
City of E1 Segundo at said election; (b) the whole number of
absentee ballots cast at and for said election; (c) the names
of the persons voted for* (d) the office to fill which each
person was voted for; (e1 the number of votes given at each
precinct to each person; (g) the number of absentee votes given
to each of such persons; and (h) the total number of votes
given both in said city and in said absentee ballots to each of
such persons; are as hereinafter set forth in this resolution;

Fourth: That the whole number of ballots cast in said
city at said regular general municipal election was 2,312
ballots;
Fifth: That the whole number of absentee ballots cast
at and for said election was 9 ballots;
Sixth: That the names of the persons voted for, the of-
fices for which they were voted, the number of votes given in
each precinct to each of said persons, the number of absentee
votes given each of said persons, together with the whole
number of votes which they received in the entire city, are
as follows:

SAID CITY COUNCIL DOES THEREFORE HEREBY FURTHER RESOLVE,
DECLARE, FIND AND DETERMINE THAT at said general municipal
election, the following Municipal Officers in and for the
City of E1 Segundo, were elected:
(1) ROBERT W. FREDERICK, as Councilman, for the full
term of four years; and
(2) GEORGE E. GORDON, JR., as Councilman, for the full
term of four years.
SAID CITY COUNCIL DOES HEREBY FURTHER RESOLVE, DECLARE,
FIND AND DETERMINE that the City Clerk of said City shall en-
ter on the records of said City Council a statement of the
results of said election, showing:
(1) The whole number of ballots cast in said City of E1
Segundo at said election;
(2) The whole number of absentee ballots cast at and for
said election;
(3) The names of the persons voted for;
(4) The office to fill which each person was voted for;
(5) The number of votes given at each precinct to each
person;
(6) The number of votes given in said City to each person;
(7) The number of absentee votes given to each of such
persons; and
(8) The total number of votes given both in said City and
in said absentee ballots to each of such persons.
SAID CITY COUNCIL DOES HEREBY FURTHER RESOLVE, DECLARE,
DETERMINE AND DIRECT:
That the City Clerk shall administer to the members of
the City Council elected the Constitutional Oath of Office and
require each of said officers to severally subscribe thereto,
and she shall thereupon make and deliver to each of them a
Certificate of Election signed by her and duly authenticated,
whereupon each of them shall be inducted into the respective
offices to which they have been elected.
The motion to adopt the foregoing resolution was carried
by the following vote:
Ayes: Councilmen Baker, Frederick, Gordon, Meschuk
and Mayor Benfield
Noes: None
Absent: None
The City Clerk then reported that she had caused to be
entered on the records of the City Council of the City of E1 Se-
gundo, California, a statement of the result of said election
by filing the resolution last hereinabove set forth in her of-
fice, and by entering said resolution in full in the minutes of
this meeting on the said records.
The City Clerk thereupon issued certificates of election
to Councilmen Frederick and Gordon who immediately thereupon took
and subscribed to their respective constitutional oaths of of-
fice and filed the same with the City Clerk.

Councilmen Elect Frederick and Gordon thereupon took
their respective seats at the Council table and the Council thus
constituted thereupon consisted of the following members, all of
whom were present, to wit:
Councilman Baker
Councilman Frederick
Councilman Gordon
Councilman Meschuk
Mayor Benfield
The Mayor stated that it was customary to elect a Mayor
and a Mayor pro tempore at that time and declared nominations for
Mayor to be in order.

Councilman Frederick thereupon nominated Mayor Benfield
as Mayor, which motion was seconded by Councilman Gordon and unan-
imously carried.
No further,nominations being made, it was moved by
Councilman Frederick, seconded by Councilman Gordon, that the City
Clerk be and she is hereby authorized to cast a unanimous ballot
for Mayor Benfield as Mayor of the City of E1 Segundo. Carried.
The City Clerk thereupon cast such ballot and Mayor
Benfield reassumed the duties of the Mayor.
Mayor Benfield then stated he would receive nominations
for Mayor pro tempore, whereupon it was moved by Councilman
Frederick, seconded by Councilman Gordon and unanimously carried
that Councilman Baker be nominated as Mayor pro tempore. No
further nominations being made, it was moved by Councilman
Frederick, seconded by Councilman Gordon, that the City Clerk
be authorized to cast a unanimous ballot for Councilman Baker as
Mayor pro temore of the City of E1 Segundo. Carried.
No further business appearing to be transacted at this
meeting, it was moved by Councilman'Frederick, seconded by Coun-
cilman Gordon, the meeting adjourn, the hour of adjournment being
2:35 o'clock P. M. Carried.
