UNDO, CALIFORNIA, WAS HELD IN THE COUNCIL CHAMBER OF THE CITY HALL OF
SAID CITY ON THE ABOVE DATE. PRIOR TO CALLING THE MEETING TO ORDER,
THOSE PRESENT JOINED IN PLEDGING ALLEGIANCE TO THE FLAG OF THE UNITED
STATES OF AMERICA, FOLLOWING WHICH A PRAYER WAS OFFERED BY REVEREND
LONGMORE OF FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH.

WHEREAS, THIS COUNCIL IS INFORMED THAT A BILL TO CONTROL
OR PROHIBIT THE SALE AND DISTRIBUTION OF SUCH OBSCENE AND
LURID LITERATURE IS BEING PRESENTED TO THE LEGISLATURE FOR

WHEREAS, THIS COUNCIL IS FIRMLY CONVINCED THAT
STATEWIDE CONTROL OF THIS PROBLEM WHICH HAS ENVELOPED
A MAJOR PART OF OUR UNITED STATES, IS NECESSARY IN
ORDER TO COMBAT THE EVIL INFLUENCE WHICH IS AVAILABLE
TO OUR CHILDREN ON MANY BOOKSTANDS IN MOST EVERY CITY;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF EL SEGUNDO, CALIFORNIA, AS FOLLOWS:
1. THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA IS
HEREBY URGED AND REQUESTED TO PASS PROPER LEGISLATION
TO PROHIBIT OR CONTROL THE SALE OF ALL LITERATURE WITHIN
THE STATE PORTRAYING AND SENSATIONALIZING HORROR, SEX,
DEPRAVITY, CRIME, OBSCENITY AND LICENTIOUSNESS, PARTIC-
ULARLY WHERE IT COMES INTO THE HANDS OF CHILDREN.
2. THE CITY CLERK IS HEREBY DIRECTED TO FORWARD
COPIES OF THIS RESOLUTION TO THIS CITYtS REPRESENTATIVES
IN THE LEGISLATURE AND TO THE LEGISLATIVE COUNSEL.

REPRESENTS AN AREA OF APPROXIMATELY 100 SQUARE MILES WITH
A POPULATION OF OVER HALF A MILLION PEOPLE; AND
WHEREAS, THE RESIDENTS OF THIS AREA PAY APPROXIMATELY
TEN MILLION DOLLARS PER ANNUM IN STATE GAS TAX MONEY FOR
USE IN HIGHWAY CONSTRUCTION AND IMPROVEMENTS; AND

WHEREAS, NO APPROPRIATION HAS BEEN MADE FORT THE
CONSTRUCTION OF FREEWAYS WITHIN THIS AREA SINCE THE
INCEPTION OF THE FREEWAY PROGRAM; AND
WHEREAS, THE CITY OF EL SEGUNDO IS ONE OF THE
CITIES REPRESENTED BY SAID COMMITTEE, AND THE CITY
COUNCIL OF SAID CITY IS OF THE OPINION THAT DUE TO
INCREASE IN POPULATION THIS AREA IS DESPERATELY IN
NEED OF ADDITIONAL HIGHWAY CONSTRUCTION;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF EL SEGUNDO, THAT THE CALIFORNIA HIGHWAY
COMMISSION BE REQUESTED TO ALLOCATE FUNDS IN THE 1958 -59
BUDGET FOR THE CONSTRUCTION OF THE SAN DIEGO FREEWAY
SOUTH FROM VENICE BOULEVARD TO AT LEAST THE HARBOR
FREEWAY; AND

THE ACACIA PARK, AND HE ANTICIPATES ANOTHER SIEGE OF BROKEN WINDOWS
IN HIS RESIDENCE SUCH AS WAS EXPERIENCED LAST YEAR. HE FURTHER STATED
THAT EVEN THOUGH THE PARK IS POSTED TO PROHIBIT BASEBALL PLAYING,
CHILDREN CONTINUE SUCH SPORT, AND HE SUGGESTED AS ONE POSSIBLE REMEDY,

ING AND VENTILATING SYSTEMS IN THE TUNNEL ON SEPULVEDA BOULEVARD.
