1953 OCT 16 CC MINV 630 El Segundo, California October 16, 1953 An adjourned regular meeting of the City Council of the City of El Segundo, California, was held in the Council Chamber of the City Hall of said City on the above date, having been called to order at 4:15 o'clock P. M. by William R. Selby, Mayor. ROLL CALL Councilmen Present: Peterson, Swanson and Mayor Selby; Councilmen Absent: Baker and Gordon. READING OF MINUTES OF PREVIOUS MEETING The minutes of the regular meeting held on the 14th day of October, 1953, having been read, and no errors or omissions having been noted, it was moved by Councilman Peterson, seconded by Councilman Swanson, the minutes of said meeting be approved as recorded. Carried. WRITTEN COMMUNICATIONS Written communications, received from the persons, firms or corpora- tions, hereinafter named, were read to the Council and were disposed of in the manner indicated, following reference to each hereinafter: MAYWOOD GLASS CO., dated October 14, 1953, objecting to the business license tax presently being levied by the City of Los Angeles. Ordered filed. T. B. DeBERRY, CHIEF OF POLICE, dated October 16, 1953, requesting that he be granted.permission to take his 1952 earned vacation between the dates October 26th, 1953 to November 9th, 1953, both dates inclusive. Moved by Councilman Swanson, seconded by Councilman Peterson, that T. B. DeBerry, Chief of Police of the City of E1 Segundo, be and he is hereby granted permission to take his 1952 earned vacation between the dates October 26th, 1953 to November 9th, 1953, both dates inclusive. Carried by the follow- ing vote: Ayes: Councilmen Peterson, Swanson and Mayor Selby; Noes: Councilmen None; Absent: Councilmen Baker and Gordon. FLEWELLING AND MOODY, ARCHITECTS, dated October 9, 1953, being report regarding two proposed available sites for a City Hall and /or Civic Center for the City of El Segundo. By general consent, the communication was ordered filed for future reference. None. None. None. ORAL COMMUNICATIONS REPORTS OF STANDING COMMITTEES REPORTS OF OFFICERS AND SPECIAL COMMITTEES -1- V 631 UNFINISHED BUSINESS Moved by Councilman Peterson, seconded by Councilman Swanson, the following resolution be adopted: RESOLVED, that that certain map entitled: "MAP SHOWING PORTION OF ARENA STREET PROPOSED TO BE VACATED UNDER RESOLU- TION OF INTENTION NO. 1359'x, presented to this Council at this meeting, be received and ordered placed on file in the office of the City Clerk and open to public inspection. Carried by the following vote: Ayes: Councilmen Peterson, Swanson and Mayor Selby; Noes: Councilmen None; Absent: Councilmen Baker and Gordon. Moved by Councilman Swanson, seconded by Councilman Peterson, that Resolution No. 1359, entitled: A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF EL SEGUNDO, CALIFORNIA, DECLARING ITS IN- TENTION TO ORDER THE VACATION OF A CERTAIN PORTION OF ARENA STREET, WITHIN SAID CITY., which was read, be adopted. On roll call, said motion carried and said resolution was adopted by the following vote: Ayes: Councilmen Peterson, Swanson and Mayor Selby; Noes: Councilmen None; Absent: Councilmen Baker and Gordon. At this point, Mayor Selby appointed Councilman Peterson as Finance Commissioner pro tem due to the absence of Finance Commissioner Gordon. NEW BUSINESS Moved by Councilman Peterson, seconded by Councilman Swanson, that Resolution No. 1358, entitled: A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF EL SEGUNDO, CALIFORNIA, FIXING THE COMPENSA- TION OF THE VARIOUS OFFICERS AND HEADS OF DE- PARTMENTS OF SAID CITY, AND OF THE VARIOUS EMPLOYEES THEREOF; AND REPEALING ALL RESOLUTIONS AND PARTS OF RESOLUTIONS IN CONFLICT THEREWITH, INCLUDING RESOLUTION NO. 1271 OF SAID CITY, AND ALL RESOLUTIONS AMENDATORY OF OR SUPPLEMENTARY TO SAID RESOLUTION NO. 1271., which was read, be adopted. On roll call, said motion carried and said resolution was adopted by the following vote: Ayes: Councilmen Peterson, Swanson and Mayor Selby; Noes: Councilmen None; Absent: Councilmen Baker and Gordon. No further business appearing to be transacted at this meeting, it was moved by Councilman Swanson, seconded by Councilman Peterson, the meeting adjourn. Carried. M., on the above date, in the Council Chamber of the City Hall of the City of El Segundo, said time and place being the time and place for holding regular meetings of the City Council of said City, the Deputy City Clerk was the only person present. Said Deputy waited at the Council Chamber for a period of thirty minutes, and no members of the Council appearing, he thereupon declared the meeting regularly adjourned.
