Inspector, after inspecting the building, having recommended that the

by Councilman Baker, the following resolution be adopted:

Mr. Edward L. Bennett, owner and operator -.of Yellow Cab.Company of
E1 Segundo, read to: -the Council .a letter he•had- prepared, reque -6ting that
- the existing.ordinance of the City of E1 Segundo, fixing then amount of
bodily injury-insurance required to be carried by the operators of taxi
cabs licensed within the City of E1 Segundo, be reduced from $25'= '50,000.00
to $5000 - 10,000.
He discussed the matter briefly with the Council-and delivered to
the City Clerk for filing the letter from which he had read. Thereafter
he took his departure from the Council Chamber, after having been advised
by the Mayor that the matter would betaken under conia1deration.
Mr. San ord 0. Mullins addressed tha-Co'uncil-concerning his desire to
move a one story frame building from his property at the Southwest corner
of Virginia Street and PhIm, Avinue,_vlthln the City-of ZI Segundo,la-permit
for the removal of which he stated had been rbfuse&by the' Building`
Inspector, with the explanation that the construction--of'the building is
not in conformity with the existing Building Code of the City of El Segundo.

City Clerk Mc Carthy reported receipt of a coammni.cation from General
Hospital) County of Los,Angeles, in reply to.,his letter seeking information
respecting -the Blanchard_ Portable. Plastic Lung, which the City has been
requested to purchase.. He read the communication to'the.Council and
furnished each member a copy thereof. Action by the Council with
reference to the matter, was deferred jen&ing further consideration and
the anticipated receipt of a communication from Rancho Los Amigos, where
a number of these apparatus are in use.
City Clerk McCarthy reported that, pursuant to instruction, he had
directed -a communication to-Mr. B. A. Bixler, Manager,of.Pacific Telephone
and Telegraph Company for this district, with reference to_tlie matters
called to the attention of the Council by James D..Parke.- Company, by
letter-filed-with this Council at its last regular meeting;_ that Mr. Bizler
had telephoned him this ,date, stating that he had referred the matter to
his supervising offIcar and .also that he had conferred. with Mr,. Parke
personally, explaining that.it is impossible for the Telephone Company
to obtain,, at this time, all of the..fa:cilities, which would thoroughly.
satisfy.Mr. Parke'a requirements; however, an arrangement has been made,
whereby Mr. Parke is now receiving an improved service, which the Telephone
Company will attempt to maintain, pending its ability to.fully meet the
demands of the-James.-D. Parke Company.

until the further order of this Council, and he shall•be,-compensated for
his services rendared,the,Clty of El Segundo as such-Assistant City
Engineer in the manner-and.,at the times provided for In Resolution No.
871 of the City of El Segundo, as amended to date. Said employee, In
the course of his employment; shall be - under the -supervision, and direction-
of the City Engineer of the City of ZI Segundo and shall perfom such :
services for the City as may be authorized or directed by said City

accumulated vacation for the period of four weeks, beginning June 30, 1947,
and that said officer also be granted pernissionto leave the State of

Councilman Skelley reported receipt of a communication from Pacific
Coast Building Officials Conference, with reference to consultation
services rendered by it to the Building Departments of cities, members of
said Association, and he inquired Whether or not the City of.Sl Segundo
has' been ors -ts: desirous. of taking advantage'. of this eervio'e. _
Discussion developed the fact - that'the City has in the past availed .,
itself of these services and by general consent the continuation of this
policy was referred to Councilman Skelley for consultation With the Building
Inspector and report to this Council at his convenience for its further
action, if any is indicated at that time.
No further business appearing to be transacted at this meeting, it
was moved by Councilman Skelley, seconded by Councilman Peterson, the
meeting adjourn. Carried.
