1945 JUN 08 CC MIN - 27Q 977 E1 Segundo California. June 8, 1945. An adjourned regular meeting of the City Council of the City of E1 Segundo, California, was held in the Council Chamber of the City Hall of said City on the above date, having been called to order at 4:00 P.M. by Mayor Wm. R. Selby. ROLL CALL. Councilmen Present: Hesser, Peterson, Thompson and Mayor Selby. Councilmen Absent: Skelley. By general consent the regular order of business was dispensed with. The City Clerk read to the Council a communication from Raymond V. Darbey, member of the Board of Supervisors of the County of Los Angeles, addressed to Hon. 'rim. R. Selby, Mayor, calling attention to inspections to be made by the Federal Beach Erosion Board June 16 and June 17, 1945, and inviting attendance at a conference of city and county officials concerning the Cooperative Beach Erosion Survey, which will be held in the Assembly Room of the Board of Supervisors in Los Angeles at 10:00 A.M.,-Monday June 18, 1945. The matter being one of interest and concern to the City of E1 Segundo, it was moved by Councilman Hesser and seconded by Councilman Peterson that the Mayor of the City of E1 Segundo, the City Engineer and such other officials of said city as find it convenient to do so, are hereby authorized to attend the city and county officials conference concerning the Cooperative Beach Erosion Survey, to be held in Los Angeles June 18, 1945, at 10:00 A.M. and to file their demands for their actual and necessary dxpenses in connection therewith. The motion carried by the following vote: Ayes: Councilmen Hesser, Peterson, Thompson and Mayor Selby. Noes: Councilmen None. Absent: Councilman Skelly. At this time the matter of filling the vacancy in the office of the Water Department of the City of El Segundo created by the resignation of the incumbent clerk, Ruth Schlimme (Hopp), was discussed at some length, after which it was moved by Councilman Hesser, seconded by Councilman Peterson that the following resolution-be adopted: RESOLVED, that Dorathy Wallace, presently Departmental Clerk in the office of the.City Clerk in the City of El Segundo, be transferred from said office to the office of the Water Department of the City of E1 Segundo to fill the vacancy which will occur due to the resignation of Ruth Schlimme (Hopp) which becomes effective-June 15, 1945; ARID, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that in her new position, said Dorathy Wallace, shall be classified as Departmental Clerk assigned to the Water Department. That until the further order of this Council she shall be compensated as provided in that certain Resolution of the City Council of the City of E1 Segundo fixing and establishing the rates of pay and hours of employment of all employees of the city of E1 Segundo. The foregoing resolution was carried by the following vote : Ayes: Councilmen Hesser, Peterson, Thompson and Mayor Selby. Noes: Councilmen None. Absent: Councilman Skelly. Q w8 Moved by Councilman Peterson, seconded by Councilman Hesser that the following resolution be adopted: WIEREAS, a vacancy will occur in the office of the City Clerk by reason of the transfer of Dorathy Wallace from said office to the office of the Water Department of the City of E1 Segundo; AND, WMREF.S, it is necessary to fill said vacancy at the earliest rossible time so that the business of said office may be conducted without serious interruption; NOW, T=FORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Clerk is hereby authorized to employ in his office as Departmental Clerk, Mrs. Nell T. Sheldon, to assume the duties of her office at her earliest convenience, AND, BE IT FQRTEER RESOLVED, that until the further order of this Council, Mrs. Sheldon shall be employed during such hours and receive such compensation as is prescribed in Resolution No. 733 of the City Council of the City of El Segundo, fixing and establishing the rates of compensation and hours of employment of employees of the City of E1 Segundo; AND, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the City Clerk is also authorized to employee such additional help as in his judgement is necessary to carry on the functions of his office until such time as the said Mrs. Sheldon is familiar with her duties and vacations have been disposed of or working schedules satisfactorily rearranged. The foregoing resolution was adopted by the following vote: Ayes: Councilmen Hesser, Peterson, Thompson and Mayor Selby. Noes: Councilmen None. Absent: Councilman Skelly. No further business appearing to be transacted at this meeting, it was moved by Councilman Hesser, seconded by Councilman Thompson the meeting adjourn.
