August 22nd, 1944.
An adjourned regular meeting of the City Council of the City of E1 Segundo,
California, was held in the Council Chamber of the City Hall of said City, on
the above date, having been called to order at 4:15 o'clock P. M. by George
Love, Mayor.
ROLL CALL.
Councilmen Present: Hesser, Peterson, Skelley and Mayor Love.
Councilmen Absent: Selby
1.1oved by Councilman Peterson, seconded by Councilman Skelley that the
regular order of-business be dispensed. Carried.
The City Clerk then read to the Council a letter from the Pacific Coast
Building Cfficials Conference, dated August 18, 1944, with reference to the
business session of said conference to be held at Fresno, California, October,
51 40 & 51 1944, and urging early reservations from those anticipating
attendance at said conference.
Loved by Councilman Skelley, seconded by Councilman,Hesser, that Sohn
Catalano, Building Inspector of the City of E1 Segundo, be and he is hereby
authorized to attend the annual business session of Pacific Coast Building
Cfficials Conference, to be held at Fresno, California, October 3, 4 & 5, 1944,
as a representative at said session of the City of El Segundo, and that he be
further authorized to file his demand for his actual and necessary expenses in
connection therewith. Carried by the following vote:
Ayes: Councilmen Hesser, Peterson, Skelley and Mayor Love.
Noes: Councilmen None.
Absent: Councilman Selby.
At this point the City Clerk announced that he had in his possession, in
the same condition as when received, a sealed bid on real property heretofore
advertised for sale by the City of El Segundo under Notice No. 5 of Intention
to Sell City of E1 Segundo Owned Real Property and Inviting Bids or Offers
Therefor.
It was thereupon moved by Councilman Hesser, seconded by Councilman
Peterson, that the Council proceed to open, examine and publicly declare the
bid received this date on real property heretofore advertised for sale under
Notice No. 5 of Intention to Sell City of E1 Segundo Owned Real Property.
The Council proceeded to and did open the bid received this date for the
purchase of City of E1 Segundo Owned Real Property, which said bid was found
by said Council to be as follows, to -wit:
Bid of Henry Claman, dated August 21, 1944, submitted on regular form
provided therefor, offering the sum of $300.00, for the South 40 feet of the
North 85 feet of Lot 5, Block 104, El Segundo. Said bid was accompanied
by a deposit of $300.00 in currency.
Following consideration of said bid, it was moved by Councilman Hesser,
and seconded by Councilman Peterson, that Resolution No. 734, entitled:
RESOLUTION OF = CITY COUNCIL OF TTE CITY OF
�...I' , SEGUNDO, CALIFORNIA, ACCEPTING THE CASH BID
OF IM RY CLAtIAN FOR CERTAIN CITY OIWNED PROPERTY,
which was read, be adopted. Said resolution was adopted by the following vote:
Ayes: Councilmen Hesser, Peterson, Skelley, and Mayor Love,
Noes: Councilmen None.
Absent: Councilman Selby.

The City Clerk then read to the Council Ordinance No. 280, which had
been introduced, and read at a regular meeting of this Council, held August
2, 1944. At the conclusion of the reading of said ordinance, it was moved
by Councilman Hesser, and seconded by Councilman Skelley, that Ordinance
No. 280, entitled:
AN ORDINANCE, OF THE CITY OF EL SEGLWD09 CALIFORNIA,
FIXING THE AMOUNT OF MONEY NECESSARY TO BE RAISED
BY TAXATION UPON TAXABLE PROPERTY T=-IN AS A
4 _ TO CARRY ON THE VARIOUS DEPARTM MTS (IN-
CLUDING TIC EL SEGUNDO PUBLIC LIBRARY) AND PAY THE
BONDED INDEBTEDNESS OF SAID CITY FOR THE CURRENT
FISCAL YEZAR, 1944 -19459
which had been introduced and read, at a regular meeting of this Council,
held August 2, 1944, and reread at this meeting be adopted. Said motion
carried, and said ordinance was adopted by the following vote, to -wit:
Ayes: Councilmen Hesser, Peterson, Skelley, and Mayor Love.
Noes: Councilmen None.
Absent: Councilman Selby.
Moved by Councilman Peterson, seconded by Councilman Skelley, that
Resolution No. 735, entitled:
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF EL
SEGUNDO$ CALIFORNIA, FIXING THE R,�TES,OF TAXES
LEVIED IN AND FOR SAID CITY, SUFFICIENT TO RAISE
THE AMOUNT OF MONEY FIXED BY THE SAID CITY COUNCIL
IN ORDINANCE NO. 280 THEREOF, PASSED ZND ADOPTED
ON THE 22ND DAY OF AUGUST, A. D., 1944, AND THE
EXPENSE OF COLLECTION OF SAID AMOUNT, THE SAID
RATES HrREIN FIXED BEING THE RATES OF TAXES IN AND
FOR SAID CITY FOR THE CURP4 -NT FISCAL YEAR 1944 -19450
which was read be adopted. Said motion carried, and said resolution
was adopted by the following vote, to -wit:
Ayes: Councilmen Hesser, Peterson, Skelley, and Mayor Love.
Noes: Councilmen None.
Absent: Councilman Selby.
Moved by Councilman Hesser, seconded by Councilman Peterson, the
meeting adjourn.
