April 16th, 1943.
An adjourned regular meeting of the City Council of the City of E1 Segundo,
California, was held in the Council Chamber of the City Hall of said City on
the above date, having been called to order at 4:30 P. M. by George Love, Mayor.
ROLL CALL.
Councilmen Present: Peterson, Selby and Mayor Love.
Councilmen Absent: Gerow and Hesser.
Moved by Councilman Selby, seconded by Councilman Peterson, the regular
order of business be dispensed with. Carried.
The following demands, having had the approval of the Committee on Finance
and Records, were read:

Moved by Councilman Selby,'seconded by Councilman Peterson, the demands
be allowed and warrants ordered drawn on and paid out of the respective funds
covering the same. Carried by the following vote:
Ayes: Councilmen- Peterson, Selby and Mayor Love.
Noes: -Councilmen None.
Absent: Councilmen Gerow and Hesser.

The City Clerk reported that Mr. Alfred K. Tennis, an employee of the
City of E1 Segundo, had deposited with the City Treasurer of said City a check
for the purchase of a $1000.00 par value Second war Loan Bond, so that the
City might obtain credit for the purchase and to assist the community to reach
its $200,000.00 quota.
Inquiry having been made of the Post Office department at E1 Segundo as
to whether or not there had been to date an individual purchase equaling or in
excess of said sum and it appearing that there has been none, it was moved by
Councilman Selby, seconded by Councilman Peterson, that the following resolution
be adopted:
WHEREAS, this Council has been informed that Mr. Alfred K.
Tennis, an employee of the City of.El Segundo, has ordered
purchased, through the City Treasurer of said City, for his
account, $1000.00 par value Second War Loan Bond; and
WHEREAS, it appears that this is the largedt individual
purchase of said bonds within the City of E1 Segundo so far as
is known to date; and
WHEREAS, by his display of patriotism is these trying times,
Mr. Tennis has set an example for all persons financially able to
do so to follow;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that this public spirited
act be made a matter of record in the minutes of the proceedings
of this Council and that said-gentleman be commended therefor and
the City Clerk be authorized and directed to address a communication
to Mr. Tennis, advising him of the sentiments of this Council as
aforesaid.
The foregoing resolution was adopted by the. following vote:
Ayes: Councilmen Peterson, Selby and Mayor Love.
Noes: Councilmen Nona.
Absent: Councilmen Gerow and Hesser.
At this point, the hour being 4:55 o'clock P. M. Councilman Hesser,
appeared at the meeting and took his seat at the Council table.
Thereafter, Victor D. McCarthy, Coordinator of E1 Segundo Defense
Council, announced that Mr. EdRea•has resigned his office as a member of
said Council by reason of his contemplated entry into the United States.Navy.
Thereupon the Mayor announced that he has appointed Mr. Robert F.
Falconer a member of E1 Segundo Defense Council to fill the vacancy created
by the resignation of Mr. Rea.
Following this announcement, it was moved by Councilman Selby, seconded
by Councilman Hesser, that the appointment-of Mr. Robert F. Falconer as•a
member of E1 Segundo Defense Council by Mayor Love be and the same is hereby
ratified, confirmed and approved. Carried by the following vote: ,
Ayes: Councilmen Hesser, Peterson, Selby and Mayor Love.
Noes: Councilmen None. ,
Absent: Councilman Gerow.
No further business appearing to be transacted at this meeting, it was
moved by Councilman Selby, seconded by Councilman Peterson, the meeting
adjourn. Carried.
