Lyna*, Chairman of the Salvage Committee of E1 Segundo Local Defense, had requested that some sort of covering be put on the salvage bin on Main Street-to protect material placed therein from the effects of sun and wind. By general consent the matter was referred to Councilman Gerow to ascertain if scrap lumber is available for'this purpose, and if so, to authorize the top-and sides of the bin to be'covered. The Water Superintendent reported having attended a meeting of Water Superintendents'and City Engineers at Los Angeles on Friday, July 31st, 1942, called by Mr. Willard'Keith, Regional Director of O. C.-D. That at said meeting Mr: Keith advised'that the Army and Nary have requested that certain emergency gravity water connections be made at Sepulveda- Boulevard and Imperial Highway; that he had been asked to prepare certain maps in connection with Such proposed Connections, also to estimate the cost thereof, which he had done. He further stated that his estimate of making the connections approximated $7500.00; that the Office of Civilian Defense had inquired whether'or not the City of E1 Segundo would consent to the making of such installation and if so, what portion of the cost thereof the City would bear. After discussion, by general'consent the Water Superintendent- was directed to furnish the Office of Civilian Defense with maps and estimates requested ,'and to advise said body that the City of El Segundo has no objection to the Army and Navy causing the proposed water connections to be made, but it has no money at this time to appropriate toward the cost of making such connections due to the Necessity of enlarging its present water facilities to take care of increased-number-of water consumers. No further business appearing to be transacted at this meeting, it was moved by Councilman Selby, seconded by Councilman Gerow, the meeting adjourn. Carried.
