The minutes of the regular meeting held on the 14th day of September,
1938, were read. No errors or omissions appearing,.it was moved by
Councilman Selby, seconded.by Councilman Love, the minutes be approved as
read. Carried.

parcels of-real property, which he felt the City might be interested in purchasing

11r. N. L. Dorn, representing Lane ;dells Company, addressed the Council with
reference to his Company's utilizing, for experimental purposes, an abandoned
Union Oil Company's well and asked that the provisions of ordinances respecting
the payment of fees and posting of bonds be waived in view of the fact that no
oil operations are to be conducted, the experiments being merely measurements
and testing of cables and other oil field equipment, whichhis Company markets.
It appearing from discussion and from advice received from the City
Attorney that the ordinance provisions referred to cannot be waived, the matter
was disposed of by Mr. Dorn agreeing to comply therewith or to contact the
Council at a future date with reference to the matter,
REPORTS OF STANDING CO12,1I =.
Councilman Hesser drew attention to the desirability of painting the walls
of-the rooms in the City Nall occupied as Police Department headquarters. The
several Councilmen agreed.that these rooms needed renovation and by general consent
it.was proposed that an estimate of the cost of doing the work be obtained.
REPORTS OF OFFICE AND SPECLA COTjjITTEES.
The City Clerk . reported that in connection with a certain bill sent Iti4r.
A.-A. Harrison for repairs to the public street in front of his premise$ due to
the installation of a sewer line, which said bill had been referred to the City
Council as being excessive, investigation had been made by the Assistant Street
Superintendent, the result of which was reported to the City Clerk and referred
to-this Council at this time. Thereupon it was moved by Councilman Love, seconded
by-Councilman Hesser, the following resolution be adopted:
ti' `•u3, it appears that during the month of August, ,
1938, the Street Superintendent of the City of El Segundo
performed certain services and furnished certain materials
and equipment for patching a portion of a certain -public
street - within the City of El Segundo, to- .-rdt: in front of
.907 Main Street, El Segundo;
AND,.1V&1ER 1AS, under date of August 16th, 1938, the
City Clerk rendered a bill therefor in amount of :17.07 to
Hr. A. A. Harrison, owner of said premises;
A?M, *. P�� 5, said bill was referred to this Council
as being excessive;
AND, 7 ^ , this Council thereupon caused an
investigation to be made of the items making up the
before mentioned total charge and has discovered that
two items therein are not properly applicable thereto;
NOW, 71-PREFORE, BE IT. PWSOLVED, that the charge
for truck rental in connection with said work be reduced
from four hours at 85¢ per hour to one and onehalf hours
at the same rate and that the item of roller rental in
connection Viith said work be reduced from two hours at
X2.50 per hour to one -half hour at $2.50 per hour, thereby
reducing said bill to the amount of ;11.20 and that a .
new statement for said latter amount be transmitted to
A. A. Harrison and that the records of the City Clerk be
corrected accordingly. .

UNFINISHED BUSD SS.
The matter of the purchase of a hoist for installation at the
municipal warehouse was discussed briefly and it appearing that the adequacy
of the compressor and air receiver now at the municipal warehouse to
satisfactorily operate the hoist proposed to be purchased has not been
determined, the matter, by general consent, was referred back to the Street
Superintendent for further report.

A form of ordinance respecting certain health and sanitary regulations
as prepared by the City kttorney of the City of El Segundo, pursuant to
instructions given him at the last regular meeting of this Council, was
presented and considered at this time, following which Councilman Love
introduced Ordinance No. 217, entitled:
