March 9th, 1938.
A regular meeting of the City Council of the City of El Segundo, California,
was called to order at 7:00 o'clock P. M. on the above date, in the Council
Chamber of the City Hall of said City, by Peter E. Binder, Mayor.
ROLL CALL.
Councilmen Present: Gerow, Hesser, Selby and 1%yor Binder,
Councilmen Absent: Love,

The minutes of the regular meeting held on the 2nd day of March, 1938,
were read. No errors or omissions appearing, it was moved by Councilman
Hesser, seconded by Councilman Gerow, the minutes be approved as read.
Carried.
WRITTEN COiZ11MCATIONS.
The following communications, which were read to the Council, were
disposed of in the manner indicated following the reference to each herein-
after:
ROY PBELPS GARAGE, dated March 9th, 1938, stating that the Chief of
Police had been given a demonstration of blow -out proof inner tubes and
quoting prices for tubes for the tires on the police cars and motorcycles.
In response to questions propounded by members of the Council, the
Chief of Police explained the nature of the demonstration witnessed and
expressed the belief that the use of such tubes would safeguard the
operation of the emergency vehicles of the Police Department.
It was thereupon moved by Councilman Hesser, seconded by Councilman
Gerow, that ten Goodyear Lifeguard Tubes be purchased for use on the two
automobiles in service in the Police Department of the City of El Segundo
and four of said tubes be purchased for use on the two police motorcycles,
all at a cost of not to exceed $126.00, plus California State Sales Tax.
Carried by the following vote:
Ayes: Councilmen Gerow, Hesser, Selby and Mayor Binder,
Noes: Councilmen None.
Absent: Councilman Love,
STANDARD OIL COMPANY OF C_4LIFO=A, dated March 9th, 1938, requesting
a permit to conduct a seismographic survey along the South side of Imperial
Highway westerly of Sepulveda Boulevard. Moved by Councilman Hesser, seconded
by Councilman Gerow, the following resolution beC1adopted:
VEMEAS, STANDARD OIL COMP_4NY OF CALIFORNIA has requested
permission of this Council to make a seismographic survey
along the South side of Imperial Highvray, westerly of
Sepulveda Boulevard, within the City of El Segundo, California;
and _
WHEREAS, this Council has no objection to the making of
such survey upon the terms and conditions as hereinafter stated;
NONTEEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that said Standard Oil
Company of California be and it is hereby authorized to make
said survey, provided, however, that by proceeding under the
provisions of this permission, said Company shall automatically
thereby agree and be bound:
lst. - To indemnify the City of E1 Segundo, California,
and each and all of its officers, agents, servants and employees
from and against any and all damage or claims of damage of any
kind, nature or description whatsoever which may arise out of

or be due indirectly or directly to the making of
said survey or any act in connection therewith; and
2nd. - That said Standard Oil Company of California
shall irmediately pay upon proper demand therefor any and
all damages which may be occasioned to either persons or
property or both and which may be suffered by, through
or on account of or which may arise out of the making
of said survey or the doing or failure to do of any act
in connection therewith.
The foregoing resolution 7ras adopted by the following vote:
Ayes: Councilmen Gerow, Hesser, Selby and Mayor Binder,
Noes: Councilmen None.

ELLS E. HAYN._.S, dated Lurch 7th, 1938, an application for employment
by the City of E1 Segundo. Ordered filed.
JOIUTI D. SLATER, dated March 7th, 1938, being an application for
employment by the City of E1 Segundo. Ordered filed.
E. B. MORITZ FOUNDRY, dated Harch 7th, 1938, soliciting an order for
"School Girl" traffic signs. Ordered filed.
THE OHIO OIL COMPANY, dated-March 3rd, 1938, applying for a permit
to drill its Gough No. 12 well in a portion of Section 7 within the City of
El Segundo. Moved by Councilman Gerow, seconded by Councilman Selby,
that Resolution No. 447 entitled:
