M. on the above date, in'the Council Chamber of the City Hall of said City, by Peter E. Binder, Mayor. ROLL CALL. Councilmen Present: Gerow, Hesser, Love, Selby and Mayor Binder. Councilmen Absent: None. READING OF MINUTES OF PREVIOUS MEETING. The minutes of the regular meeting held on the 2nd day of June, 1937, vt.,ere read. No errors or omissions appearing, it was moved by Councilman Love, seconded by Councilman Selby, the minutes be approved as read. Carried. '7RITTEN COP:/2­':UNICATIONS. The following communications, which were read to the Council, were disposed of in the manner indicated following the reference to each hereinafter: LEAGUE OF CALIFORNIA P."UNICIPALITIES, dated June 3rd, 1937, advising that cities intending to submit an invitation to the League to hold the 1938 Convention in such cities, should submit invitations not later than July 15th to the Secretary of the League. CITY CLERK, CITY OF LOS ANGELES, dated June 7th, 1937, File No. 1842 (1937), advising that the sewage screenings drying field, situated northerly of the -City of El Segundo, will immediately be removed to a site remote from this City. Councilman Gerow of the Public 7orks Committee drew attention to the fact that the alley in Block 8 of the City of El Segundo had been improved for about one —half its length, that he felt the improverent should be extended so as to provide a smooth roadway the entire distance.of the alley bet?Freen El Segundo Boulevard and Franklin Avenue. The City Engineer advised he had estimated the cost of this improvement to be $50,00; whereupon it was moved by Councilman Love, seconded by Councilman Hesser, that the Street Superintendent be authorized and directed to oil the unimproved roadway of the alley in Block 8 of the City of El Segundo, at a tot• -,l cost of not to exceed $50.00. Carried by the folloTing vote: Ayes: Councilmen Gerow, Hesser, Love, Selby and T.-ayor Binder. Noes: Councilmen None. Absent: Councilmen :done. Councilman Hesser of the Public 'Forks Committee recommended consideration of the -purchase of a portable public address system for use in various. places of public assembly r:ithin the City of El Segundo, so that speeches or anniuncements made at such times might be heard by all when persons are gat'rered at such places in large numbers. By general consent the City Engineer was instructed to look into the matter of such eauinment anc to r)ht.a; n nr; nPG REPORTS OF OFFICERS AND SPECIAL COI ITTEES The Superintendent of the ;rater Department reported that the chlorinator has been installed and is in operation and to date has performed satisfactorily. The City Attorney filed with the City Clerk for identification and reference a copy of the judgment rendered P;iay 13, 1937 and filed on the same_ date in Judgment Book 970 at Page 199, Case No. 406,816 in the Superior Court of the State of California, in and for the County of Los Angeles, titled: "The City of Los Angeles, a i;iunicipal Corporation and Department of Water and Power of the City of Los Angeles, Plaintiff, vs. City of El Segundo, Defendant ", which has to do frith the right of way granted said City of Los Angeles to construct, operate and maintain a transmission line for the transmission of electric current or electrical energy over and across certain of the Public Streets within the City of E1 Segundo. City Forester H. E. Campbell reported to the Council that he had procured 5S five- gallon cans, in *,%,hich he had placed a number of the trees recently purchased by the City; that all others are making satisfactory grovth. He advised also that the next meeting of California Association of Park Administrators will be held at Santa Ana on Saturday, June 11th, 1937, whereupon it was moved by .'aNror Binder, seconded by Councilman Hesser, that City Forester N. E. Campbell and City Gardener F. L. Gregory be and they are hereby authorized and directed to attend the meeting of the California Association of Park Administrators, vfnich will be held at Santa Ana, June 11th, 1937, as representatives of the City of El Segundo, and that they be authorized to file•a demand in proper form for their actual and necessary expenses in•connection-rith attendance at said meeting. The City Clerk drew attention to the fact that the subject matter of the letter of Southern California Edison Company, dated hay 26th, 1937, presented to this Council June 2, 1937, had not been disposed of, whereupon following the suggestion of Councilman Gerow, it i %as moved by Councilman Hesser, seconded by Councilman Gerow, that the City Clerk be authorized and directed to communicate ;ith a number of adjacent cities, respecting street lighting charges, and inquire whether or not any such cities would be interested in joining with the City of El -e ,-undo in an application to the Railroad Commission of the State of California for the adoption of a schedule which ^^ould permit of street lighting on a metered basis rather than on a. flat rate basis.
