1937 FEB 03 CC MINEl Segundo, California. February 3rd, 1937. A regular meeting of the City Council of the City of El Segundo, California, was called to order at 7 :00 o'clock P. M. on the above date, in the Council Chamber of the City Hall of said City, by Peter E. Binder, Mayor. ROLL CALL. Councilmen Present: Gerow, Hesser, Selby and Mayor Binder. Councilmen Absent: Love. READING OF MINUTES OF PREVIOUS MEETING. The minutes of the regular meeting held on the 27th day of January, 19372 were read. No errors or omissions appearing, it was moved by Councilman Gerow, seconded by Councilman Hesser, that the minutes be approved as read. Carried. WRITTEN COMMUNICATIONS. The following communications were read and disposed of as indicated: A. K. WARREN, Chief Engineer and General Manager, County Sanitation Districts of Los Angeles County, dated January 26th, 1937, advising that on January 19th, 1937, the Board of Supervisors of Los Angeles County adopted its final order annexing a portion of the City of El Segundo to County Sanitation District No. 5, and that the Board of Directors of said County Sanitation District authorized him to proceed with the construction of a trunk line sewer connecting such annexed 'portion of the City of E1 Segundo with existing sewers in said District, when said City.has deposited vrith the District the estimated cost of such.construction, to -wit: $14,500.00. The communication was ordered filed. LEAGUE OF CALIFORNIA MUNICIPALITIES, dated January 27th, 1937, being its Bulletin No. 2 respecting certain recently enacted State legislation. Ordered filed. R. W. BRO)IP CLIFFORD SMITH AND CHESTER E. SMITH, each being application for employment by the City of E1 Segundo. Ordered filed. BELYEA TRUCK COMPANY, dated January 27th' 1937, requesting permission to move into the City of E1 Segundo a one story frame building to be used as a warehouse and oil well tool and machinery sales room. All fees having been paid and deposits made as required by ordinances and said building having been inspected by the Building Inspector of the City of E1 Segundo, who reported that the same conforms to building ordinances of the City of E1 Segundo, it was moved by Councilman Hesser, seconded by Councilman Love, that the following resolution be adopted: RESOLVED, that BELYEA TRUCK COMPANY be and it is hereby granted permission to move a one -story frame corrugated iron building into the City of El Segundo; • during the process of such removal to be•routed west on E1 Segundo Boulevard from inglewood- Redondo Road•to a point on private property approximately one-half mile westerly of Inglewood- Redondo Road; provtbd, however, that the permit is granted subject to the observance by said Company of all provisions of all ordinances of the City of E1 Segundo respecting the moving of buildings within said City and the use of the public streets thereof. The foregoing resolution was adopted by the following vote: N-268 Ayes: Councilmen Gerow, Hesser, Selby and Mayor Binder. Noes: Councilmen None. Absent: Councilman Love. SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA TELEPHONE COMPANY, dated January 27th, 1937, requesting a permit to replace one pole on the North side of El Segundo Boulevard, westerly of Sepulveda Boulevard. Moved by Councilman Selby, seconded by Councilman Hesser, that Southern , California Telephone Company be and it is hereby granted permission to excavate in the North side of E1 Segundo Boulevard, approximately 1A mile westerly of Sepulveda Boulevard, for the purpose of replacing one pole, such work to be prosecuted and completed to the satisfaction of the Street Superin- tendent of the City of E1 Segundo. Moved by Councilman Selby, seconded by Councilman Hesser, that the Altar Society of St. Anthony's Church be and it is hereby granted permission to use the City Hall Auditbrium on the evening of February 9th, 1937, for the purpose of conducting a benefit card party, no.charge to be made for such use. Carried. The Chief of Police announced that from time to time he has, with the approval of the City Council, appointed certain individuals as Special Police Officers of the City of El Segundo; that the reasons for their appointments as such Special officers no longer exist and that he therefore at this time announces the revocation of the appointments as Special Police Officers of the following personsi to-wit: 0. Smith F''7U - N Said Chief of Police in connection with these revocations announced that the revocation of the appointment as Special•Poliee Officers of certain persons 2iereinbefore named, to —wit: J. B. Catalano, Floyd L. Ingram, H. J. Miller acid K. S. Searles shall in no way be considered as affecting in any manner the later appointment of said individuals as regular Police Officers of the City of El Segundo. Moved by Councilman Gerow, seconded by Councilman Selby, that the following resolution be adopted: WHEREAS, at the time this Council was endeavoring to obtain permission from the Division of Highways of the State of California to erect boulevard stop signs at Sepulveda Boulevard and Imperial Highway, its action was supported by resolutions adopted by several civic and fraternal bodies in this vicinity; and WHEREAS, such organizations filed with this Council petitions requesting the installation of traffic control devices at the highways intersection mentioned and set'forth reasons why such installation seemed necessary; and WHEREAS, in substantiation of its arguments with the Division of Highways of the State of California for permission to install boulevard stop signs at the location mentioned, copies of the several petitions of said civic and fraternal organizations were used; and WHEREAS, this Council believes that'the said petitions played an important part in finally obtaining the desired permission; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that this Council does hereby acknowledge the assistance given it and'the cooperation of the groups hereinafter mentioned, and does hereby direct the City Clerk of the City of El Segundo to advise'the El Segundo Kiwanis Club, the El Segundo Chamber of Commerce; the El Segundo Post American Legion, the El Segundo Woman's Club, the E1 Segundo Unit American Legion Auxiliary, Redondo Beach Lodge No. 1378 B. P. 0. Elks, Rebekah Lodge No. '357 I.O.O.F.,EI Segundo Lodge No. 435 I.O.O.F. of such appreciation by-forwarding to each of said organizations a copy of this resolution.. The foregoing resolution was adopted by the unanimous vote of the Council. No further business appearing to be transacted at this meeting, it was moved by Councilman Gerow, seconded by Councilman Selby, that the meeting adjourn. Carried.
