A regular meeting-of the City Council of .the City of El Segundo,
California, was called to order at 7:00 o'clock P. M. on the above date,
in the Council Chamber of the City Hall of said City, by Peter E. Binder,
Mayor,
ROLL CALL,
Councilmen Present: Gerow, Love, Selby and Mayor Binder.
Councilmen Absent: Hesser.
READING OF MINUTES OF ISETIOUS MEETING.
The minutes of the regular meeting held on the 22nd day of December,
1937, were read. No errors or omissions appearing, it was moved by
Councilman Selby, seconded by Councilman Love, the minutes be approved
as read. Carried.
WRITTEN C01a=CATIONS.
The following communications, which were read to the Council, were
disposed of in the manner indicated following the reference.to each herein-
after:
RICBF1" OIL CORPORATION, dated December 23rd, 1937, expressing
appreciation for the efficient manner in which the Police and Fire
Departments of the City of E1 Segundo cooperated with said Corporation
during the blow -out and fire which recently occurred in Santa Fe B -1 Well.

Councilman Hesser appeared at the meeting at this time, the hour
being 7:09 o'clock P. M. and immediately took his seat at the Council.

HULL, MORGAN & BLEDSOE, Attorneys -at -Law, dated December 21st,
1937, pointing out the danger which confronts the entire beach frontage
between Playa del Rey and Redondo Beach, by the construction of jetties
in the Pacific Ocean at Playa del Rey for the protection of Ballona
channel and their consequent interruption aiiV defledtion of ocean currents
with a resultant erosion of the beaches for several miles below the point
of installation of the jetties. The communication went on to say that
the building of the flood control channel is a worthy project, but that
the problem should be solved in connection with others and in a different
manner and stated further that the firm would be only too glad to cooperate
if, after ascertaining the facts, this Council considers the interests of
the citizens of El Segundo are being jeopardized. Ordered filed.
WAR DEPARTMENT, U. S. ENGINEER OFFICE, dated December 23, 19371,
advising that the hearing in the matter of a harbor at Playa del Rey, set
for Tuesday, January 4th, 1938, at 10:00 A. M. in the auditorium of the
Westminster School,.Venice, has beem postponed until further notice in
order to give local-interests additional time'to prepare data setting-forth
•. the.desired.improvements.. Ordered filed.
UNION OIL COMPANY OF CALIFORNIA, dated December 28th, 1937,
advising of its intention to abandon its Well No. 1, for which permit was
granted January 6th, 1937. Ordered filed.
ALLIED PETROLEUM CORPORATION, dated 12 /29/37, being an applica-
tion for a permit to drill an oil and /or gas well on Lot 5, Block 123,

E1 Segundo. Said application appeared to be in regular form and was
accompanied by duplicate maps showing location of the proposed well and
the extent of the lease in connection with which said well will be drilled.
After examination by the Council, the same was taken under advisement
until the neat regular meeting of the Council.

ORAL CONMONICATIONS.
REPORTS OF OFFICERS AND SPECIAL COMMITTMS.
The City Attorney reported that he had attended to all the details
in connection with the Cityts and of the escrow in the matter of the oil
and gas lease between Elsie Oil Company and the City of E1 Segundo
respecting Lots 1, 2 and 3, in Block 65, El Segundo.
The City Attorney advised that Pacific Electric Railway Company and
other common carriers have made application to the Railroad Commission
of the State of California for permission to adjust passenger fares.
Following consideration, by general consent the City Attorney was instructed
to do nothing more. unless or until he is further instructed by this Council.
The City Attorney advised the Council that he had prepared a formal
resolution naming Sepulveda Boulevard, which he has delivered to the City
Clerk for presentation to the Council under the proper order of business.

AND ESTABLISHING THE COMPENSATION OR PAY OF VARIOUS
MUNICIPAL OFFICERS AND EMPLOYEES OF SAID CITY AMID
REPEALING ALL RESOLUTIONS AND ORIlW AND PARTS OF
RESOLUTIONS AND ORDERS IN CONFLICT TEMM=, BW

Moved by Councilman Love, seconded by Councilman Hesser, that the
Street Superintendent of the City of E1 Segundo be and he is hereby
authorized and instructed to paint a center white line stripe on Main
Street between Imperial Highway and E1 Segundo Boulevard, at a cost of
not to exceed $240.00, including California State Sales Tax. Carried by
the following vote:
Ayes: Councilmen Gerow, Hesser, Love, Selby and Mayor Binder,
Noes: Councilmen None.
Absent: Councilmen None.
No further business appearing to be transacted at this meeting,
it was moved by Councilman Gerow, seconded by Councilman Love, the meeting
adjourn. Carried.
