A regular meeting of the City Council of the .City of El Segundo, California,
was called to order at 7:00 otclock P. M. on the.above date, in the Council
Chamber of the-City Hall of said City, by Peter E. Binder, Mayor.
ROLL CALL.
Councilmen Present: Gerow, Lave, Selby and Mayor Binder.
Councilmen Absent: Hesser.
READING OF MINUTES OF PREVIOUS YEETING.,
The minutes of the regular meeting held on the 31st day of March, 1957)
were read. No errors or omissions appearing, it was moved by Councilman
Love, seconded by Councilman Gerow, the minutes be approved as read. Carried.
WRITTEN COtWUNICATIONS.
The following communications were read and disposed of in the manner
indicated following the reference to each hereinafter:
HONORABLE PRENTISS M. BROWN, Senator, Michigan, dated March 244th,o 937,
submitting a Congressional Record reprint of his statement in support
Senate Bill 1919, respecting lower gas rates. Ordered filed.

The Council at the same time directed the Clerk to advise Assemblyman

THE OHIO OIL COMPANY, dated April 1, 1937, being an application for
the construction and operation of an oil well in a portion of Section 7,
within the City of El Segundo.
Moved by Councilman Gerow,-seconded by Councilman Love, that Resolution
No. 369, entitled:
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF EL
SEGUNDO.. CALIFORNIA, GRANTING TO THE OHIO OIL COMPANY
A PERMIT FOR THAT CERTAIN OIL WELL IN SAID CITY DES -
IGNATED AND KNOWN AS "GOUGH NO. 4 ",
which was read, be.adopted. Carried.by the following votes
Ayes: Councilmen Gerow, Love, Selby and Mayor Binder.
Noes: Councilmen None.

REDONDO BEACH CH21BER OF COMMERCE, dated March 30th, 1937, submitting
copy of a resolution adopted by
that Body March 29th, 1937 requesting the
Pacific Electric Railway Company to improve its service on the Los Angeles
to Redondo line, and requesting this Council to adopt a simi�ar

Moved by Councilman Selby, seconded by Councilman Love, the following
resolution be adopted:
. WHEREAS, the Chamber of Commerce of Redondo Beach, California,
has submitted to this Council a copy of a resolution adopted by
said Body, which resolution is as follows, to —wit:
"WHEREAS, the southwest section of Los Angeles County,
comprising the cities of E1 Segundo, Manhattan Beach,
Hermosa Beach, Redondo Beach, Palos Verdes Estates,
Torrance and Gardena, together with adjacent territory,
are becoming very popular as residential communities;
and
WHEREAS,, many of the residents of these communities
have their business connections in the City of Los
Angeles; and
WHEREAS, the only passenger transportion Company
serving all of the above communities is the Pacific
Electric Railway Company,, whose equipment in service
in this territory is obsolete;
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Directors
of Redondo Beach Chamber of Commerce petition Chambers
of Commerce in other cities to join with us in presenting
to the officials of the Pacific Electric Railway
Company, an urgent request for the establishment of
more frequent service and the maintainence of smooth
road beds with modern and comfortable coaches.
It is our firm belief that such action on their part
will materially increase traffic over their lines and
encourage the building of new homes in the section served."
and
WHERE ,AS, this Council believes that the facts set forth therein
are correct and that any efforts made to improve railway trans-
portation service between the City of Los Angeles and the South
Bay cities are desirable and timely;
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that this Council does hereby
go on record as approving said action taken by said Redondo Beach
Chamber of Commerce and does hereby join in the petition to
Pacific Electric Railways Company to improve its existing service;
and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that a copy of this resolution be
forwarded to Redondo Beach Chamber of Commerce for transmittal to
said Pacific Electric Railway Company.
The foregoing resolution was adopted by the following vote:

The.City Attorney reported briefly respecting the power line suit
between the City of Los Angeles and the City of E! Segundo.
UNFINISHED BUSINESS.
Moved by
Councilman Gerow, seconded by Councilman Hesser, that if and
when the Trustees of El Segundo Unified School District grant the City of El Segundo permission so to do, the Street Superintendent t ersaid city is hereby
authorized and directed to enlarge the dressing
constructed by
the City on the High School campus adjacent to Arena Street,
the total cost of such enlargement not to exceed $100.00. Carried by e
following vote:
Ayes: Councilmen Gerow, Hesser, Love, Selby and Mayor Binder.
Noes: Councilmen None.
Absent: Councilmen None.
The Chief of Police reported upon the statewide inter -city traffic
safety contest sponsored by the Traffic Safety commission the Califor.ia.,aand
which was referred to him at the last regular meeting it
from the report that the rules, regulations and requirements are
appearing to undertake, it was by general
too complicated for the City of E1 Segundo
consent decided not to participate in the contest.
