1936 SEP 30 CC MINEl Segundo, California. September 30th, 1936. A regular meeting of the City Council of the City of E1 Segundo, Caiifornia, was called to order at 7 :00 otclock P. M. on the above date, in the Council Chamber of the City Hall of said City, by Peter E. Binder, Mayor. ROLL CALL. Councilmen Present: Hesser, Selby,, and Mayor Binder. Councilmen Absent: Gerow and Love. READING OF MINUTES OF PREVIOUS MEETING. The minutes of the regular meeting held on the 23rd day of September, 1936, were read. No errors or omissions appearing, it was moved by . Councilman Selby, seconded by Councilman Hesser, that the minutes be approved as read. Carried. WRITTEN COMMUNICATIONS. The following communication, which was read to the Council, was disposed of in the manner indicated following the reference hereto: C. L. BROADWATER, SECRETARY, E1 Segundo Unified School District, dated September 29th, 19362 advising that the Board of Trustees of said School District, had agreed to accept "the amount heretofore expended by the City of E1 Segundo and the amount'expected to be expended on the maintenance of the recreational grounds at El Segundo High School as rental for said premises, on a month to month basis at the pleasure of both the City Council and the Board of Trustees. Ordered filed. Councilman Love appeared at the meeting at this time, the hour • being 7:07 o'clock P. M. and he immediately took his seat at the Council' table. REPORTS OF STANDING COMMITTEES, Mayor Binder stated in his opinion locks should be affixed to the switch boxes at the baseball grounds, and by general consent the City Engineer was instructed to purchase such a lock, one key to same to be given the caretaker at said grounds, the other key to be in the custody of the City Clerk. REPORTS OF OFFICERS AND SPECIAL COMMITTEES. The City Engineer reported progress in the matter of compilation of data for the advertising map he is preparing, Mr. K. E. Campbell, Horticulturist, advised that the Gardener has on hand six pepper trees, and asked if the Council desired to have same planted on the east side of Grand Avenue Park.' The Council decided in the negative, £eeling.that.the growth of these trees would shut off all view from the Park, which would not be desirable. UNFINISHED BUSINESS. The Council discussed briefly the licensing of oil wells within the City, following which, by general consent, the City Clerk was directed to address a letter to the County Tax Assessor of Los Angeles County, requesting that certain information be furnished relative to assessed valuation of oil wells of the type now in operation within the City. -t96 - N Councilman Hesser introduced Ordinance No. 2042 8ntitled: AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF EL SEGUNDO, CALIFORNIA, REGULATING TRAFFIC UPON THE PUBLIC STREETS, AVENUES, ALLEYS, THOROUGH- FARES AND PLACES WITHIN SAID CITY.,-AND REPEALING ALL ORDINANCES AND PARTS OF ORDINANCES IN CONFLICT THERENTTH, which was read. The Chief of Police advised having received quotations on various types of boulevard stop signs and read said quotations to the Council. After some discussion re various features of the types quoted upon and the tyre best suited to the needs of the City of El Segundo, it was moved by Councilman Hesser, seconded by Councilman Love, that the purchase from Econolite Corporation of two flasher —type boulevard stop signs, for erection one at the Northwest corner of Grand and Main Street and one at the Southeast corner of Grand and bia.in Street, be and the same is hereby authorized, at a total cost of not to exceed $136.00, plus California -State sales Tax. Carried by the following vote Ayes: Councilmen Hesser, Love, Selby and Mayor Binder. Noes: Councilmen None. Absent: Councilman Gerow. No further business appearing to be transacted at this meeting, it was moved by Councilman Selby, seconded by Councilman Love, that the meeting adjourn. Carried.
