READING OF MINUTES OF PREYIODS MEETING. The minutes of the regular meeting held on-the 3rd day of June, 1936, were read. No errors or omftsions appearing, it was moved by Councilman Selby, seconded by Councilman Love, that the minutes be approved as read. Carried. WRITTEN CONNUNICATIONS.. Ordered filed. THE NORTHROP CORPORATION, dated June 8th, 1956s, tet4tioning the Council to grade and oil certain streets adjacent to said Comparuy's airplane factory within the City of El Segundo. Moved by Councilman Gerow seconded by Councilman Lave, that the Street Superintendent of the City of h Segundo be and he is hereby authorised and directed to cause Doughlas and Northrop Avenues within the City of El Segundo to be graded and oiled, at a total cost of not to exceed $350.00. REDONDO BEACH POST NO. 184, AMERICAN LEGION, inviting the official family of the City of EL Segundo to attend said Postls "City Official Night", at its Club House in Redondo Beach, June 29th, 1986, By general consent the communication was ordered filed and the Clerk requested to again bring the matter to the attention of the Council. The City Attorney at this time reported to the Council that there had been filed with him as City Attorney a copy of the Summons of Complaint in that certain action in the Superior Court of the State of California, in and for the County of Los Angeles, entitled: *Southern California Telephone Company, a Corporation, versus City of El Segundo, a Municipal Corporation ", and which said action bears No. 402792 in the saAd Court. The Attorney stated that said aaioa.was an action to recover taxes + `° paid by the Plaintiff.under protest and had particular relation to the alleged variation in-the assessment value of the properties of said Plaintiff as compared to the assessment values of other properties in private ownership. After discussion,. it was moved by Councilman Lowe, seconded by Councilman Selby, that the following resolution be adopted: = "RESOLVED, that the City Attorney be and he is hereby authorized and instructed to make appearance on behalf of the City of E1 Segundo in that certain action entitled: "Southern California Telephone' Compa' rip a.-Cbrporation - versus City of El Segundo a Municipal I Corporation ";' which bears Auperior No. 402792 in the Couch of the State of California, - - in and for the County of Los Angeles, and make defense of said",* action on behalf of said Defendant City, taking such steps, filing such documents, pleadings and proceedings and making such arguments, from time to time, as in his opinion mey be necessary r in order to protect the interests of said "City therein# AND BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that said City Attorney, for his services to be rendered in said actions shall be entitles!' -- to receive, and there shall be paid to' him a 'rea$onaM d&j- i%ons.7. compensation, payable on demands'to be filed from time to -time, and presented to, and audited and approved' by this =Coniacil• in •thee regular manner." Moved by Councilman Selby, seconded by'Councilman Love, that the following resolution be adopted: WHEREAS, R. T. Hutchins, Building Inspector, will begin his customary annual vacation June 17th, 1936; and AHEREAS, there is considerable building activity within the City of El Segundo at this time, requiring frequent inspection by the Building Inspector of the City of El Segundo; NbW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that between the dates June 17th, 1956, and July lot, 1956s the vacation period of the Building Inspector of the City of El Segundo, A. J. Sullivan be and he is hereby designated, appointed and employed as Building Inspector pro -tem, and that he be compensated for such service as he may render the City of El Segundo as such Building Inspector pro -tem, at the rate of $1.10 per hour, for such time as he is actually engaged in performing the duties of the Building Inspector.
