M. on the Lbove date, in the Council Chamber of the City Hall of s ,-id City by Peter E. Binder, "Mayor. ROLL CALL. Councilmen Present: Gerow, Hesser, Love, Selby and Mayor Binder. Councilmen Absent: None. READING OF i�4INUTES Or PREVIOUb MEETING. The minutes of the regular meetin- held on the 26th day of December, 1935, were read. No errors or omissions appearing, it was moved by Councilman Love, seconded by Councilman Selby, that the minutes be approved as read. Carried. V.'HITTEN COVUNICtiTIONS. The following communications were read and disposed of as indicated: CALIFORNIA �MICIPAL UTILITIES ASSOCIATION, dated November 15, 1935, reouesting that it be furnished with certain data respecting E1 Segundo tiunicipal Water Department. By general consent the Superintendent of the Prater Department was directed to comdile the information requested and cause the same to be forwarded to said Association, and the City Clerk was directed to obtain from the League of California Municipalities, if possible, additional information relative to the activities and purposes of the Interim Committee of the California Senate, now investigating the feasibility of the State of California taking over all or part of the water, gas and electric utilities within the State of California. At'PLICKTION OF REPUBLIC PETROLEUTI" COMPAE,Y, LTD., dated January 2nd, 1936, requesting permission to erect and maintain an oil well derrick and its necessary appurtenances for the purpose of drilling; an oil well at the following; described location: Commencing at the North 1/4 corner of bection 18, Township 3 South, Range 15 West, thence South 330 feet and bluest 990 Peet, within the City of E1 Segundo, Los Angeles County, California. Moved by Councilman Gerow, seconded by Councilman Hesser, that Resolution No. 327, entitled: A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF EL SEGUNDO, CALIFORNIA, GR,.NTING TO REPUBLIC PETROLEUvi COMPANY, LTD. A PERi'MIT FOR THAT CERTAIN OIL WELL IN SAID CITY DESIGt ATED AND KNOWN AS "REPUBLIC EL SEGUNDO NO. 211, which was read, be adopted. Carried by the following vote: Ayes: Councilmen Gerow, Hesser, Love, Selby and Mayor Binder. Noes: Councilmen None. Absent: Councilmen None. REPORTS Or OFFICERS aND SPECIAL COMMITTEES. The City Clerk reported that Mr. Leo A. Stromee, representing the Bureau of Prater and Power of the City of Los Angeles, had informed him orally that said Department will not construct the pole line along* the Southerly side of Imperial Highway, a distance of approximately 1300 feet west from Inglewood— Redondo haod, a permit for which the Council at a recent meeting indicated it would grant formally at a later date; adding that the Department has now proposed a different method of routing; its power lines and will file an amended application for a permit with this Council at its next regular meeting. • ti S -N The Street Superintendent reported that he and Mr. K. E. Campbell had inspected some carob trees held for sale by Mr. George Southard; that this nurseryman has 400 trees, approximately 6 -feet tall in 1- gallon cans, which can be procured at 40¢ each and he recommended that the same be purchased, whereupon it was moved by Councilman Love, seconded by Councilman Hesser, that the purchase of 400 carob trees from George Southard, at a cost of 40¢ each plus California State Sales Tax, be and the same is hereby authorized and directed. Carried by the following vote: Ayes: Councilmen Gerow, Hesser, Love, Selby and Mayor Binder. Noes: Councilmen None. Absent: Councilmen None. PAYING BILLS. Fire Chief McConnell asked permission to have a mechanical booster a.tt@ched to the fire engine to increase the braking power of said vehicle and if the same proved satisfactory after a 10 day demonstration, to purchase the same; whereupon, it Was moved by Councilman Love, seconded by Councilman Selby, that the Fire Chief be and he is hereby authorized and directed to have a mechanical booster attached to the fire engine and to purchase the same at a cost of not to exceed ;135.00, provided after a ten day demonstration said booster is, in the opinion of Laid Fire Chief, satisfactory in all respects. Carried by the following vote: Ayes: Councilmen Gerow, Hesser, Love, Selby and Mayor Binder. Noes: Councilmen None. Absent: Councilmen None.
