READING OF MINUTES OF PREVIOUS MEETING.
The minutes of the regular meeting held on the 2nd day of December,
1936, were read. No errors or omissions appearing, it was moved by
Councilman Selby, seconded by Councilman Gerow, that the minutes be
approved as read. Carried.
WRITTEN COMMUNICATIONS.
The following communications, which were read to the Council, were
disposed of in the manner indicated following the reference to each herein-
after:
JAMES E. KENNEDY, dated December 9th, 19360 making application for
employment with the City of E1 Segundo. Ordered filed.
PACIFIC COAST FISHERIES INSTITUTE, dated December 7th; 1936, with
further, reference to a proposed initiative measure designed to prohibit the
taking.of sardines in California waters. Ordered filed.
REPUBLIC PETROLEUM COMPANY.. LTD., dated December 9th, 1936, being an
application for.permits to erect and maintain three oil well derricks and
appurtenances on its lease in a portion of-the Northeast quarter of Section
18 within the City of E1 Segundo..

ORAL • COMMUNICATIONS.
Mr. James E. Kennedy addressed the Council relative to the written
application for employment, which he had recently filed with the Council.
He was advised by the Mayor that if and when the employment of additional
personnel is contemplated, he will be advised, so that he may appear before
the Council for a personal interview.
Mr. J. A. Carmichael, as representative of El Segundo Recreational
Council, advised that he was delegated to present to the City Council the
proposition of adopting an ordinance officially creating a Board of five

REPORTS OF STANDING COMMITTEES.
Councilman Gerow reported that complaint had been made to him that the
Neon sign at Imperial Highway and Inglewood— Redondo Read has not been burning
for several weeks. Councilman Gerow and the Council were informed that the
sign had been damaged by a motorist, but has been repaired and was reconnected
December 8th.
Councilman Selby reported that Mr. James F. Kemp, who had been employed
by the City to prepare and supervise the execution of a. Halloween P dyed
had made his written report and delivered -the same to Councilman Selbpr�'

The City Engineer reported having conferred with representatives of
the Los Angeles County Health Department concerning County ordinances
affecting hog ranches; that these representatives had promised to furnish
