A regular meeting of the City Council of the City of El'Segundo,
California, was called to order at 7:00 o'clock P. M. on the above date, in
the Council Chamber of the City Ha" of said City, by Peter E. 'Binder, Mayor.
ROLL CALL.
Councilmen Present: Gerow, Selby and Mayor Binder.'
Councilmen Absent: Hesser and Love.
RE!,DING OF MINUTES OF PREVIOUS =ING.
The minutes of the regular meeting held on the 8th day of April, 19361,
were read without error or omission appearing and were approved as read
upon motion of Councilman Selby, seconded by Councilman Gerow, which carried.

The Fire Chief reported that while at the scene of a fire this date,
the ladder equipment on the fire engine was damaged through a..collision,
with .a passenger vehicle, which stopped in back of the fire engine while
said engine was backing into position at.a fire hydrant, and .iri- his.opinion
new ladders-should be procured, inasmuch •as he Melt 'that. the � cost . of new
ladder equipment would be no greater than an attempt to- repair the broken
ladders.
At this point, the hour being 7:30 o'clock P. M., the Council recessed
for 10 minutes, for the purpose of viewing the broken fire ladders.
At the hour of 7:40 o'clock P. Y., the Council recorniened' Councilmen
Gerorr and Selby and 11ayor Binder answering roll call; Councilmen Hesser.
and Love being absent.
The Council proceeded with further discussion respecting the repair of
the old fire ladders or the procurement of riew. ones, whereupon by general
consent the City Clerk was instructed to ascertain the difference between
the cost of new ladders and repairing the old ones and to advise with the
Council before a replacement is made.
Mr. K. E. Campbell reported having planted eucalyptus trees'at locations
designated by the Council and that his work with respect to the care of trees
is progressing satisfactorily.
The Street Superintendent reported that Mr. W. G. Henry,, an employee in
his Department, had requested permission to begin his annual two weeks
..vacation April 13, 1936,, and that-he had consented thereto and permitted the
vacation to start as reeuested.
It was thereupon moved by Councilman Gerow, seconded by Councilman Selby,
that the action of R. T. Hutchins, Street Superintendent, in granting W. G.
Henry permission to begin his annual two weeks vacation April 13, 1936, be and
the same is hereby ratified and approved. Carried.
SPECIAL ORDER OF BUSINESS.
The matter of the consideration of all of the bids received February

7th, 1936, for furnishing all of the labor, materials and services
necessary for the construction of a library building in and for the City
of El Segundo, having been continued from a previous meeting to this hour
this date, the Mayor announced that the Council would now proceed with
such consideration.
It.appearing.desirable to again postpone a decision, it was moved by
Councilman Selby, seconded by Councilman Gerow, that all of the bids
received February 7th, 1936, for furnishing all of the labor, materials and
services required to construct and complete a library building in and for
the City of E1 Segundo be taken under further advisement until the hour
of 7:15 o'clock P. M., April 22nd, 1936. Carried by the following vote:
Ayes: Councilmen Gerow, Selby and Mayor Binder.
Noes: Councilmen None.
Absent: Councilmen Hesser and Love.

NEW BUSINESS.

of two 30 x 32 tires and tubes for use on ?later Department Truck No. 7, and
two 30 x 3z tires for use on Street Department Truck No. 6, be and the same
is hereby.authorized and directed, at a cost of not to exceed $24.00, plus
California State Sales Tax. Carried by the following vote:

Moved by Councilman Gerow, seconded by Councilman Selby, that the
purchase of 300 feet of second hand 2 -1/2" fire hose for use of the Street
Department, at a total cost of not to exceed $100.00, plus California State
Sales Tax be and the same is hereby authorized and directed. Carried by
the following vote:
Ayes: Councilmen Gerow, Selby and Mayor Binder.
Noes: Councilmen None.
Absent: Councilmen Hesser and Love.
Moved by Councilman Selby, seconded by Councilman Gerow, that the
purchase of.one pair of 10,000 volt linemark rubber gloves, at a cost of
not to exceed $5.75 plus California State Sales Tax, be and the same is
hereby authorized and directed. Carried by the following vote:
Ayes: Councilmen Gerow, Selby and Mayor Binder.
Noes: Councilmen None.
Absent: Councilmen Hesser and Love.
No further business appearing to be transacted at this session, it
was moved by Councilman Gerow, seconded by Councilman Selby, that the meeting
adjourn until Thursday, the 16th day of April, 1836, at the hour of 4:30
o'clock P. Y. Carried.
