1935 MAR 27 CC MINE1 Segundo, California. Mar.27th, 1935. A regular meeting of the City Council of the City of El Segundo, California, was called to order at 7:00 o'clock P. M. on the above date, in the Council Chamber'of the City Hall of said City, by Peter E. Binder, Mayor. ROLL CALL. Councilmen Present: Gerow, Hesser, Love, Selby and Mayor Binder. Councilmen Absent: None. READING OF MINUTES OF PREVIOUS MEETINGS. The minutes of the regular meeting held on the 20th day of March, 1935, were read. No errors or omissions appearing, it was moved by Councilman Love, seconded by Councilman Selby, that the minutes be approved as read. Carried. The minutes of the special meeting held on the 25th day of March, 1935, were read, Without error or.omission appearing, and were approved as read, upon motion of Councilman Selby, seconded by Councilman Love, which carried. WRITTEN COMMUNICATIONS. The following communications were read and disposed of as indicated: LEAGUE OF CALIFORNIA MUNICIPALITIES, dated March 23rd, 1935, its Legislative Bulletin No. 5, relative to the present status of legislation affecting gasoline tax, limitation of liability for cities,*optional County health service, optional Civil Service enabling act, and tax redemption for Sixth Class cities. Ordered filed. BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS, City of Los Angeles, dated March 22nd, 1935, acknowledging receipt of the Clerks letter of March 21st, 1935, with reference to connecting a small portion of the sewer system of the City of E1 Segundo to the sewer system now being constructed in Los Angeles Municipal Airport, advising the same had been referred to the City Engineer of the City of Los Angeles and that when he reports with respect to said matter, this City will be further advised. Ordered filed. LOS ANGELES COUNTY RELIEF ADMINISTRATION, dated March 26th, 1935, acknowledging receipt of the Clerk's letter dated March 21st, 1935s, advising that the matter referred to in said last mentioned letter will receive prompt attention. Ordered filed. SOUTHWEST LUNCHEON CLUB, dated March 26th, 1935, requesting the adoption of a certain resolution which accompanied said communication. Following consideration of the subject matter of the communication and the resolution which accompanied same, it was moved by Councilman Hesser, seconded by Councilman Gerow, that Resolution No. 315, entitled: A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY'OF EL SEGUNDO, CALIFORNIA, ENDORSING.THE.ESTABLISH, MENT OF A HORSE RACING TRACK IN THE'DISTRICT GENERALLY KNOWN AS THE "SOUTHWEST DISTRICT ", which was read, be adopted. The motion to adopt said resolution was carried unanimously. REGIONAL PLANNING COMMISSION OF THE COUNTY OF LOS ANGELES, dated March 20th, 1935, asking that this City furnish said Commission a copy of the material submitted by El Segundo in connection with the recent Federal inventory of public works. By general consent the City Clerk was authorized to supply the requested data. 172 C. L. BROADWATER, Principal, E1 Segundo High School, dated March 27th, 1935, requesting a representative of the City Council attend the conference respecting the State Recreation project, to be held at E1 Segundo High School, Thursday, April 4th, 1935. Moved by Councilman Gerow, seconded by Councilman Hesser, that the Mayor of the City of El Segundo be designated as the representative of the City Council of the City of E1 Segundo at the conference to be held at E1 Segundo High School, Thursday, April 4th, 1935, at 7:30 o'clock P. M. relating to the State Recreational project. Carried. ORAL COMMUNICATIONS. None. REPORTS OF STANDING COMMITTEES. None. REPORTS OF OFFICERS AND SPECIAL COMMITTEES. The City Clerk reported that the floor in the bath room in the recreation quarters of El Segundo Fire Department is cracked and that when the room is used, the water leaks through and is damaging the walls and ceiling of the Fire Engine Room; that he had had Mr. E. Cote, who was present at this meeting, inspect the same. Mr. Cote explained that it would be necessary to replace the cracked tile with new tile and that he felt that if there are no leaks in the water pipes, the suggested repair would stop the leaks. It was thereupon moved by Councilman Gerow, seconded by Councilman Love, that Mr. E. Cote be employed to repair the tile floor in the bath room in the recreation quarters of E1 Segundo Fire Department in the City Hall, under the supervision of the Building Inspector of the City of E1 Segundo, the cost of such work not to exceed $25.00. Carried by the following vote: Ayes: Councilmen Gerow, Hesser, Love, Selby and Mayor Binder. Noes: Councilmen None. Absent: Councilmen None. The Chief of'Police announced the appointment of certain persons as special police officers and requested the Council's approval of the Same. It was thereupon moved by Councilman.Selby, seconded by Councilman Hesser, that the appointments of W. A. McDonald, K. S. Searles, J. E. Trigg, C. E. Whitehead, Paul R. Kunz, R.,F. Linch, 0. B. Olsen, C. E. Lieser, Perry Jones, A. J. Sullivan, Floyd Ingram, J. B. Catalano, by R. T. Hutchins, Chief of Police, as special police officers of the City of El Segundo, be and the same are hereby ratified and approved. Carried by the following vote: Ayes: Councilmen Gerow, Hesser, Love, Selby and Mayor Binder. Noes: Councilmen None. Absent: Councilmen None.' None. PAYING BILLS. NEW BUSINESS. Moved by Councilman Love, seconded by Councilman Hesser, that the purchase of 108 carob trees at a cost of $21.60, plus State sales tax, be and the same is hereby authorized. Carried by the following vote: Ayes: Councilmen Gerow, Hesser, Love, Selby and Mayor Binder. Noes: Councilmen None. Absent: Councilmen None. No further business appearing to be transacted at this meeting, it was moved by Councilman Gerow, seconded by Councilman Hesser, that the meeting adjourn. Carried.
