IBC. on the ac.ove date, in the Council Chamber of the pity Nall of said City, by Peter E. Binder, Mayor. ROLL CALL. Councilmen Present: Gerow, Hesser, Love, Selby and Mayor Binder. Councilmen Absent: None. RE -RDING OF MINUTES OF PREVIOUS MEEETINGS. The minutes of the regular meeting held on the 29th day of May, 1935, were read. No errors or omissions appearing, it was moved by Councilman Hesser, seconded by Councilman Gerow, that the minutes be approved as read. Carried. The minutes of the adjourned regular meeting held on the 3rd day of June, 193`, were read, without error or omission being noted. It was thereupon moved by Councilman Selby, seconded by Councilman Love, that the minutes be aDnroved as read. Carried. YTRITTEN COb'1,1MTICATIONS. The following communications were read and disposed of as indicated: ASSOCIATION OF CITY PLANNEP.S OF LOS ANGFLES COUNTY, dated May 29th, 1935, inviting attention to its monthly meeting to be held in the Los Angeles Planetarium in Griffith Park, Saturday, June 8th, 1935. Ordered filed. FAULKYER, OAKFS & FAULKNER, dated May 27th, 1935, soliciting consideration in future awards for the work of auditing the books and records of the City of El Segundo. Ordered filed. ANGELO J. ROSSI, Mayor of San Francisco, dated May 31st, 1935, advising of the testern Safety Conference to be held in Exposition Auditorium, San Francisco, June llth to 13th, inclusive, 1935. Ordered filed. SAN DIEGO COUNTY DIVISION OF THE LEAGUE OF CALIFORNIA MUNICIPALITIES, dated 'May 24th, 1935, cordially inviting officials of the City of E1 Segundo to attend California Municipalities Day at the California Pacific Exposition at San Diego, on Saturday, June 15th, 1935. Ordered filed. None. None. ORAL COMMUNICATIONS. REPORTS OF STPSIDIP:G CO?,0ITTEES. REPOPTS OF OFFICERS AAID SPECIPL CO SAITTELS. The City Attorney reported that pursuant to instruction of the City Council, he and the City Engineer had conferred with representatives of the Engineering Department of the City of Los Angeles, respecting terms of a proposed contract betreen the two cities, enabling the City of E1 Segundo to connect a portion of its serer system with the sewer system of the City of Los Angeles at the Municipal Airport; that this City's representatives felt that the price proposed to be charged for making the said connection is exorbitant, but that the officials consulted have no authority to adjust this item; that this City's representatives requested permission to address the Doard of Public Works of the City of Los Angeles in an endeavor to secure terms more favorable to the City of E1 Segundo. Moved by Councilman Gerow2 seconded by Councilman Selby, that the City Attorney and the City Engineer be authorized and directed to write the Board of M -211 Public Forks of the City of Los Angeles relative to the request of the City of E1 Segundo to connect a portion of its sewer system with that of the City of Los Angeles now under construction in the Los Angeles Municipal Airport, for the purpose of obtaining terms more favorable to the City of E1 Segundo than those presented by the Engineering Department of the City of Los Angeles. Carried. The City Attorney read to the Council an affidavit filed by Stuart J. Mandaville respecting damage sustained by his automobile while traversing Imperial Highway within the City of E1 Segundo, due to the condition of a portion of the roadway of said highway. The said affidavit was accompanied by the demand of the said Stuart J. Mandaville for $15.82, representing compromise adjustment amount for damages sustained by his said automobile. Discussion ensued relative to the said claim, at the conclusion of which Mr. Mandaville's demand for the compromised amount was approved by the City Attorney. Thereafter it was moved by Councilman Gerow, seconded by Councilman Hesser, that the demand of Stuart J. Mandaville in the sum of $15.82, being compromise adjustment amount for damages suffered to a DeSoto automobile owned by him and which was damaged in the City of E1 Segundo on Imperial Highway, a public street within said pity, b; coming in contact with a displaced header board, on the 28th day of May, 1935, be and the same is hereby allowed and the Mayor of the City of E1 Segundo is authorized and directed to draw a warrant in payment thereof and the City Clerk is directed to attest the same and the City Treasurer to pay said warrant when presented. Carried by the following vote: Ayes: Councilmen Gerow, Hesser, Love, Selby and Mayor Binder. Noes: Councilmen None. Absent: Councilmen None. The City Engineer, reporting respecting the repairing of alleys throughout the City of E1 Segundo, recommended that instead of using macadam veneer roadway in these alleys, that they be oiled and treated similar to the shoulders of Sepulveda Boulevard within the Gity of E1 Segundo. This recommendation being acceptable to the Council, it a-as moved by Councilman Selby, seconded by Councilman Love, that the following resolution be adopted: BE IT RESOLVED, that the Mayor of the City of E1 Segundo, (or in his absence, R. T. Hutchins, City Engineer) is hereby authorized to sign and direct the filing of applications to the State Emergency Relief Administration for such work projects and service projects as are found to be desirable in connection with the State Emergency Relief Administration program. The foregoing resolution was adopted by the following vote: Ayes: Councilmen Gerow, Hester, Love, Selby and Mayor Binder. Noes: Councilmen None. Absent: Councilmen None. The City Engineer reported further respecting suggested remodeling of a ;portion of the City Hall building, so as to provide banauet accomoda- tions in that part of the building occupied as-Firemen's Amusement Quarters, stating that the rearrangement of the partitions, etc. would, in his opinion, cost approximately $300.00 to $400.00, but that that portion of the building should be reinforced so as to relieve the west wall of the floor and roof load it now carries, which additional work, he estimated roughly, would cost in the neighborhood of $1000.00. After considerable discussion by members of the Council, it was moved by Councilman Gerow, seconded by Councilman Love, that the City Engineer of the City of El Segundo be and he is hereby aut',-orized and directed to prepare detailed plans and make a detailed estimate of the cost of installing steel reinforcements where the same may be required, in the Westerly end of the City Hall building. Carried. 212 — Cn The Fire Chief reported that there are two buildings on Sheldon Street, North of El Segundo Boulevard, in delaoidated condition, which create fire hazards and he recommended that requisite legal action be taken to have the same disposed of. In anticipation of such action, the City Clerk was directed to ascertain the names of the owners of the property referred to and to submit the same to the Fire Chief. The Fire Chief reported also that approximately an acre of ground in Block 102 is over -run with dry weeds and other debris, which should be removed to eliminate danger from fires, and by general consent the matter was referred to the Street Superintendent for attention. Carried. -'Moved by Councilman Gerow, seconded by Councilman Hesser, that June 24th to 29th, inclusive, 1935, be declared "Clean Up Week" for the City of El Segundo, and that the : 4ayor of said City be requested to issue a proclamation to that effect.
