1935 JUL 31 CC MIN238 --M El Segundo, California. July 51st, 1935. A regular meeting of the City Council of the City of El Segundo, California, was called to order at 7 :00 o1clock P. M. on the above date, in the Council Chamber of the City Hall of said City, by Peter E. Binder, Mayor. ROLL CALL. Councilmen Present: Gerow, Hesser, Love, Selby and Mayor Binder. Councilmen Absent: None. RENDING OF MINUTES OF PREVIOUS MEETING. The minutes of the regular meeting held on the 24th day of July, 1935, were read. No errors or omissions appearing, it was moved by Councilman Love, seconded by Councilman Selby, that the minutes be approved as read. Carried. WRITTEN COMMUNICATIONS. The following communications were read and disposed of as indicated: H. C. SMILEY, District Health Officer, dated July 26th, 1955, reporting upon the activities of the County Health Department within the City of E1 Segundo, as Health Officer of said City during the month of May, 1935. Ordered filed. LEAGUE OF CALIFORNIA MUNICIPALITIES, dated July 25th, 1935, its Legislative Bulletin No. 14, advising that the Governor had signed the Gasoline Tax Bill and explaining the operation of the same with respect to cities. Ordered filed. LEAGUE OF CALIFORNIA MUNICIPALITIES, dated July 26th, 1935, its Legislative Bulletin No. 15, advising as to the signing and vetoing of certain bills by the Governor. Ordered filed. THE NATIONAL EMERGENCY COUNCIL, dated July 18th, 1935, requesting that it be furnished with an analysis of the fiscal status of the City and the labor situation therein. It appearing that the financial statement may be prepared in accordance with the request, but that the information desired respecting the labor situation is not available in any of the municipal offices, it was agreed, by general consent, that the City Clerk would furnish the fiscal data required, and advise the National Emergency Council that the Information respecting the labor situation should be obtainable through the Los Angeles County Relief Administration. STATE COMPENSATION INSURANCE FUND, dated July 30th, 1935, its File No. 17694 -35, respecting compensation insurance upon members of the Fire Department of the City of E1 Segundo. The Clerk advised that the letter was received as a result of several conferences he had had with representatives of the Fund respecting an interpretation of the Fund's insurance policy, it being the Clerk's.purpose to have a definite understanding in writing that in event of Injury, to a member of the El Segundo Fire Department, said fireman would be compensated in the maximum amount provided by law. The Clerk stated he would like to have the attorney review his file on the subject to be certain that' the coverage is satisfactory from a legal stand point and by general consent he was authorized to submit the correspondence file on the subject herein mentioned to the City Attorney for his opinion. REPORTS OF STANDING COMMITTEES. None. g N\-2392i The City Engineer reported to the Council that pursuant to a request from the Division of Highways of the State of California, he had prepared an estimate of the cost of maintaining Sepulveda Boulevard within the City of El Segundo for the year beginning July 1st, 1935 and ending June 30th, 1936. He read the report to.the Council and explained the items thereof, whereupon by general consent the Council approved the same and directed the Engineer to file the same with the Division of Highways. According to previous instruction of the Council, the City Engineer reported having obtained a price of $1.85 per yard for fertilizer delivered at the City of E1 Segundo. The Council, believing that it might be advantageous to purchase the fertilizer f.o.b. the dairy from which it was to be procured, and haul it in the City's trucks, the engineer was instructed to make further inquiry to determine which method of purchase would be the more economical.
