A regular meeting of the City Council of the City of E1 Segundo,
- California, was called to order at 7:00 o'clock P. M. on the above date,
in the Council Chamber of the City Hall of said City, by Peter E. Binder,
Mayor.
ROLL CALL.
Councilmen Present: Gerow, Hesser, Love, Selby and Mayor Binder.
Councilmen Absent: None.
READING OF MINUTES OF PREVIOUS MEETING.
The minutes of the regular meeting held on the 31st day of July, 1985,
were read. No error or omission appearing, it was moved by Councilman Selby,
seconded by Councilman Love, that the minutes be approved as'read. Carried.
WRITTEN COMMUNICATIONS.
The following communications were read and disposed of as indicated:
ARROW ROCK CO., dated July 31st, 1935, quoting prices on sand, gravel
and rock delivered E1 Segundo. It appearing that the City is not in need
of sand or rock at this time, the communication was ordered filed for
future reference.
LEAGUE OF CALIFORNIA MUNICIPALITIES, dated July 29th, 1935, being
a progress report on utility valuations, advising that the Executive
Committee of the League has retained the services of Carl A. Heinze,
Consulting Engineer, Los Angeles, to make a• preliminary engineering study
of the methods used by the Board engineers in their valuation studies
and to be present at all of the hearings of said Board. Ordered filed.
G. H. SENARD, Public Relations Department, National Trade Exchange,
dated July 27th, 1935, advising that he had had no reply to his letter
dated May 17th, 19850 in which said letter he had called attention to
the possibilities of the use of Tradex, the *commodity Dollar" as a means
of getting public works done without taxation, and requesting that he
be advised what action the Council had taken regarding the matter. It
appearing that Mr. Seward's letter dated May 17th, 1935 had been ordered
filed and that Mr. Seward had been so advised by the City Clerk, by general
consent the letter dated July 27th, 1935, was also ordered filed and the
Clerk instructed to so advise Mr. Seward.
H. L. BYRAM, County Tax Collector, dated August 2nd, 1955, submitting
a schedule showing the amount of delinquent assessments in each of the special
assessment districts in the City of E1 Segundo for the fiscal year 1934 -55,
as of June 30th, 1935, and making demand upon the Council to provide funds
for the payment of all such delinquent assessments and interest thereon, as
required by law. Ordered filed.
CLYDE WOODWORTH) City Attorney, dated August 7th, 1935, advising that he
has. reviewed the cgrrespondence.had between.the City Clerk and the State
Compensation Insurance Fund with reference to compensation to be received by
members of E1 Segundo Fire Department in event of injury while on duty as
a member of said El Segundo Fire Department, and that he is of the opinion
that said firemen are covered by the provisions of the Fund policy. Ordered
filed.

REPORTS OF OFFICERS AND SPECIAL COIOQTTEES.
Reporting in accordance with previous instruction of the Council, the City
Engineer advised that he had made inquiry of the Daisy from whom he had obtained
a price on fertilizer, and that said Dairy informed him that the price of said
fertilizer would be only 10# per ton less if hauled by the City.
The City Engineer further advised that if the Council desired to postpone the
purchase of fertilizer for a short time, he felt the entire &mount could be obtained
locally at a much lower figure and the Council, by general consent, instructed the
said Engineer to purchase the fertilizer locally.

allowed and warrants drawn on and paid out of the respective funds covering the same.

Noes: Councilmen None.

NEW BUSINESS.
Moved by Councilman Love, seconded by Councilman Selby, that R. T. Hutchins be
and he is hereby granted his annual two weeks vacation beginning August 12th, 1935.
Carried by the following vote:
Ayes: Councilmen Gerow, Hesser, Love, Selby and Mayor Binder.
Noes: Councilmen None.

Councilman Selby introduced Ordinance No. 196, entitled:
AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF EL-SEGUNDO, CALIFORNIA,
FIXING THE AMOUNT OF MONEY NECESSARY TO BE RAISED BY
TAXATION UPON THE TAXABLE PROPERTY THEREIN AS A REVENUE
TO CARRY ON THE VARIOUS DEPARTMENTS (INCLUDING THE EL
SEGUNDO PUBLIC LIBRARY), AND PAY THE BONDED INDEBTEDNESS
OF SAID CITY FOR THE CURRENT YEAR, 1935 -1936,
which was read.

City Clerk be and he is hereby instructed to have the piano in the City Hall
Auditorium tuned and repaired at a total cost of not to exceed $35.00. Carried
by the following voter
