June 13th, 1934.
A regular meeting of the City Council of the City of El Segundo, California,
was called to order at 7:00 o'clock P. M. on the above date, in the Council
Chamber of the City Hall of said City, by Peter E. hinder, mayor.

►;BITTEN COL:0ICATIONS.
the following communications were read and disposed of as indicated:
FREDERICK A. RHODES, M. D., dated June 4th, 1034, complaining about
disturbances created by beach parties at unseemly hours of the night
adjacent to the dividing line between the City of E1 Segundo and the Uounty
of Los Angeles. moved by Councilman uerow, seconded by Councilman Selby
that the City Clerk be instructed to advise the writer that the'City Council
of the City of E1 Segundo has no jurisdiction in the matter, inasmuch as
the territory referred to is partly private beach and partly Los Angeles
Uounty territory. Carried.
RALPH Y. COIVERSE and twenty -four others, requesting the erection and
maintenance of a sign at Sepulveda boulevard and Imperial Highway, similar
to the one now in use at the intersection of itedondo Boulevard and Imperial
highway, for the purpose of advertising the City of E1 Segundo and directing
vehicular traffic through this City. Each of the Councilmen present being
opposed to the erection of large signs of this nature upon the highways
within the Uity of E1 Segundo, and believing that its acquiescence in this
request would be inconsistent with its former actions in denying applications
heretofore received for the erection of billboards and advertising signs, no
action was taken in this instance except to advise LW. C. E. Kenney, who
presented the petition, of the attitude of the Council.
ORAL COM:UNICATIONS.
Mr. William L. Lane inquired whether or not the city hall Auditorium
would be available to the order of Dawolay two nights per month and what the
rental charge therefor would be in event the Society should wish to use said
Auditorium as its regular meeting place. He was advised that the quarters
could be made available at the times mentioned and that the rental charge
would be ;7.50 per month for its use two nights each month, and that pending
a decision on the part of the order, the second and fourth ruesday nights of
each month will be held in reserve for a period of two weeks from this date.
ar* Deskin Morgan applied for employment by the City and was directed to
confer with the Street Superintendent on Thursday, June 14th.
LETORTS OF OFFICERS AND SPACIAL CarulITT=ES.
The City Clerk advised that Mr. H, We* King, residing at wo. 916 Sheldon
Street, had renewed a request made in December, 1933, that a certain tree
is the parking in front of his premises be removed. whe Mayor stated that
I.T. 5'mith residing in the same locality had likewise urged the removal of
a tree adjacent to his property, whereupon it was moved by Councilman uerow,
seconded by Councilman Selby, that the ,treat Superintendent be directed to
confer with the property owners residing on Sheldon Street, between Walnut
Avenue and Imperial Highway, and to remove from the parkings in said street
such trees as the residents in said block desire to have removed. Carried.

The City Attorney reported that he had in his possession petition
signed by Santa Fe Land Improve4ent Company and Northrop Corporation,
requesting that certain territory in the Northeasterly part of the City of
El Segundo be annexed to County Sanitation District No. 5, and that inasmuch
as the property described in the petition of Northrop Corporation does not
include all. of the property owned by said Corporation in the territory it is
proposed to annex to said County Sanitation District No. 5, he is delivering
the said petitions to the City Engineer for checking and for inquiry as to
the intent of the petitioners.
In this connection, the City Engineer, by general consent, was
instructed to immediately make application to S. E. R. A. for assistance in
the construction of sewers in that part of the City of E1 Segundo which it is
contemplated may be annexed to County Sanitation District No. 5; also to make
inquiry of County Sanitation Engineer Warren respecting the agency which will
be required to procure easements over that territory outside of the City of
E1 Segundo, which it will be necessary to traverse in order to connect with
existing County trunk line sewers.
The City Attorney reported also that all of the evidence in the
Arizona Drive condemnation action has been submitted to the Court and that all
arguments have been held save one, which was to be presented to the Court in
writing this date, and he further explained the procedure required from this
point one
UNFINISHED BUSINESS.
Councilmm Gerow reminded the Council that some little time ago
Southern California Edison Company was requested to make certain changes in the
street lighting system of the City of E1 Segundo and that to date the request
has not been complied with. The City Engineer thereupon reported that he had
recently talked with Mr. Elgan, manager of Southern California Edison Company
and was advised that the work would proceed this week.

demands be allowed and warrants drawn on and paid out of Act of 1927 :.!. I. D. #1
Fiend. Carried by the following vote:
Ayes: Councilmen Gerow, Selby and Mayor Binder.
Noes: Councilmen None. Absent: Councilman Hesser and Love.
NEW BUSINESS.
Moved by Councilman Selby, seconded by Mayor Binder; that the request
of Councilman Geror for the use of the City Hall Auditorium on the evening of
Tuesday, June 19th, 1934, for the purpose of holding a meeting of the Utopian
Society be granted, no charge to be made for such use. 'Carried.
No further business appearing to be transacted at this session, it
was moved by Councilmen Selby, seconded by Councilman Gerow, that the meeting
adjourn until Monday, the 18th day of June, 1934, at the hour of 4:15 o•clock
P. M. Carried.
