In the Council Chamber of the City Hall of said City, by Peter S. Binder,
Mayor.

READING OF MINUTES OF PE MODS MEETING.
The minutes of the adjourned regular meeting held on the 3rd d of
July, 1934, Were read. No errors or o day missione;.appearing,`. i*- was moved by
Councilman Gerow, seconded by Councilman Messer, that the minutes be approved
as read. Carried.
WRITTEN COMMCATIONS.
The following communications were read and disposed of as iadicsteds
LEAGUE OF CALIFORNIA MUNICIPALITIES, dated July 2nd, 1954, requesting
the Council to take no action with respect to a communication having to do with
a gasoline tax program, which may be received from an organisation calling
itself "Southern California League of Municipalities", which said organization
Is no part of the League of California Municipalities, inasmuch as the latter
organization,, representing 194 California cities, is planning carefully
legislation which will have for its purpose an increase in the amount of
gasoline tax glands allocated to cities, and feels that a concert of action is
imperative if its efforts are to be rewarded with success. Ordered filed.
PACIFIC COAST BUILDING OFFICIALS CONFERENCE, undated, diredting
attention to the 12th Annual Meeting of said organization, to be held at
Palo Alto, Xugust 7th to 11th inclusive, 1934, and recommending representation
from the City of E1 Segundo. Ordered filed.
LEAGUE OF CALIFORNIA MUNICIPALITIES, dated July 5th, 1934, announcing
that as a result of representations made by said League to the President of
the United States and to General Johnson, NRA Administrator, the President
issued an executive order modifying Order No. 6646 of March 14th, 1934, which
modifying order permits the sale to State, Municipal or other public authority,
of materials or supplies at prices not more than 15% below the price or
prices filed with code authorities in accordance with code requirements, and
containing other information respective said executive order. Ordered filed.
ORAL COMMUNICATIONS.
Mr. William B. Miller, residing at 45th Street and Ocean Drive,
E1 Porto, requested the-cooperation of the Council in eliminating certain
undesirable features attendant upon the holding of beach parties at late and
unusual hours of the night, within the City of E1 Segundo adjacent to his home.
It was suggested that a time limit of 10:00 P.M. be fixed for the building of
fires on the beach and the Chief of Police, by general consent, was directed
to confer with officials of the Standard Oil Company and seek their cooperation.
Mr. C. E. Kenney inquired what had been done respecting the
erection of an advertising sign adjacent to the intersection of Imperial Highway
and Arizona Drive, as heretofore requested by petition filed with the Council.
He was informed by the Mayor that nothing has been done to date and likely will
not be done until after the budget for the current fiscal year has been prepared

and a better knowledge of the financial obligations of the City is had.
REPORTS OF STANDING COMITTEES.

The Superintendent of the Water Department read to the Council a report
he had received from the Hartford Steam Boiler Inspection and Insurance
Company respecting the satisfactory condition of the electrical equipment
of the City of*El Segundo as found when last inspected by its representative.

AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF EL SEGUNDO, CALIFORNIA,
CREATING A BOARD OF CONDEMNATION IN AND FOR THE CITY
OF EL SEGUNDO, DEFINING BUILDINGS WHICH CONSTITUTE
A MENACE TO PUBLIC SAFETY, AND PROVIDING THE MEANS
OF ASCERTAINING SUCH FACT AND ABATING SUCH BUILDINGS,
which was read.
Moved by Councilman Selby, seconded by Councilman Gerow, that Aliee Hope,
Publicity Director, be and she is hereby granted her customary anneal two
weeks vacation, beginning July 11th, 1934. Carried by the following votes
Ayes: Councilmen Gerow, Rosser, Selby and Mayor Binder.
Noes: Councilman None.

Moved by Councilman Selby, seconded by Councilman Rosser, that Don C.
Fugitt, City Judge, be and he is hereby granted his customary annual two weeks
vacation, beginning July 23rd, 1954, provided arrangements for caring for such
legal matters as may be presented in his court, are made with a Judge qualified

Engine Driver Harold Burns, be and he is hereby granted his customary
annual two weeks vacation beginning July 21st, 19341 Fire Engine Driver

beginning August 4th, 1934, and that Fire Engine Driver A. B. Tennis be
granted his customary annual two weeks vacation beginning August 18th, 19541
that ■. A. Callahan be employed as Belief Fire Engine Driver, to serve
during the vacation periods hersinbefore referred to, and that his
compensation as such Belief Fire Engine Driver be and the same is hereby
fazed at the same rate as that received by the employee he is reltving
during the respective periods hereinabove set forth. Carried by the

At this time the Mayor announoed the appointment of Comnpiiman Reeser
as a member of the Finance Cosmittee.to serve during the absence of Councilman
Love.
Discussion was then had relative to striping Sepulveda Boulefard with
white. lines for the gvLidance.of vehicular traffic. and the City Engineer
announced having had a conference with a reprepentative of the•Divlsipn of
Highways of the State. of California, which official. indicated that tbp State
would do the work, deducting the cost thereof from gasoline taz monies
allocated to the City of El Segundo for public highway maintenance. By
general consent the City Engineer was directed to request the Division of
Highways to proceed with the striping of said Highway.
No further business appearing to be transacted at this meeting, it
was moved by Councilman Gerow, seconded by Councilman Selby, tbAt the meeting
adjourn. Carried•
