A regular meeting of the City Council of the City of E1 Segundo
California, was called to order at 7 :00 o'clock P. M. on the above date,
in the Council.Chember of the City Hall of said City, by Peter E. Binder
Mayor. ,

Councilmen Present: Gerow, Lesser Love, Selby and Mayor Binder.
Councilmen Absent: None.

The minutes of the regular meeting held on the 7th day of February,
1934, were read. No errors or omissions being noted, it was moved by
Councilman Love, seconded by Councilman Gerow, that the minutes be approved
as read. Carried.
'RITTEN COTaUNICATIONS.
The following communications were read and disposed of as follows:
LOS ANu.:�LES COUNTY LEAGM, OF ZZNICIPALITIE;S, dated February 10th,
1934, inviting attendance of the officials of the City of E1 Segundo,
at the Thirty- Seventh i:onthly meeting of Los Angeles County League of
Municipalities, to be held at Lynwood, California February ary 15th, 1934,
at 6:30 o'clock P. Y'. The Mayor indicated that he would attend such
meeting and the communication was ordered filed.
GOLD CREST REBEKAH LODGy NO. 357, dated February 14th 1934
recuestin that it be provided with heat on -its regular meeting nights.
By general consent the City Clerk was directed to call the matter to the
attention of the janitor.
NATIOMIL COUNCIL FOR PROTIECTION OF ROADSI, 3 AUTY, addressed to
the L;ayor under date of January 30th, 19341 requesting information as to the
success of this City in enforcing its billboard ordinance, and requesting
a copy of said ordinance. By general consent the City Clerk was instructed
to answer the communication and to supply the writer with a copy of the
billboard ordinance of the City of El Segundo.
EL SEGUNDD PROGEESSI E DE�.:OCRATIC CLUB, dated February -14th, 1934,
Presenting the names of certain individuals as eligible to serve on the
election boards April 9th, 1934. Ordered filed.
J. L. McCLAIN, Contractor, dated February 2nd, 1934, requesting an
extension of sixty days time for completing his contract with the City of
E1 Segundo for the improvement of Arizona Drive within said City.
Moved by Councilman Gerow, seconded by Councilman Selby, that J. L.
:._cClain, 8ontractor_referred to in that certain street contract between J. L.
LIcClain and the City .of El Segundo, for the improvement of Arizona Drive,
(State Highway No. 60) in the City of _l Segundo, California, dated October
9th, 1933, be and he is hereby granted an extension of time from February 7th,
1934 to April'6th, 1934, within which t.o complete his contract for the
improvement of the Highway hereinbefore referred to. Carried by the following
vote:

Santa Ye Land Improvement Company, dated February 14th, 1934, its rile
l:o. 640 -9 -1, expressing its willingness to dedicate to the City of El Segundo
certain real property for public street purposes, transmitting its deed of
easement over certain real property in the Northeast 4uarter of Section 7,
Township 3 South, Range 14 West, S. B. B. & M. within the City of E1 Segundo,
and indicating certain conditions under which the grant is made.
Lengthy consideration was given the matter and it appearing that both
the letter referred to and the deed of easement tendered contained provisions
unsatisfactory to the Uouncil, the City Engineer was instructed to prepare
Plans and specifications for the work which the Uity may do in the area proposed
to be dedicated by said Uompamy for public street purposes, and in company with
the City Attorney to present the same to Santa Fe Land Improvement Company and
to cooperate with said Uompany in the preparation of instruments which will be
satisfactory to the pity of =1 Segundo. .

The City Clerk reported that the riot Spoil of Rythm had made verbal
application for permission to rent the City Hall auditorium on certain dates
for the purpose of holding public dances. Loved by Councilman Selby,
seconded by Councilman Love, that the "Hot Spots of Rythm ", sponsored by
Lr. and 2;rs. W. T. Hoefle, !Zrs. F. G. Landaville and L,, and Mrs. A. L.
Balmer, be granted the use of the :%ity hall auditorium on r'ebruary 24th,
.:arch 9th, and 23rd, April 6th and 20th, 1934, for the purpose of holding a
dance, provided that a rental charge of $2.50 per night be paid in advance
of the holding of each of said dances, and provided further, that said dances
be conducted in an orderly manner, and that the permit hereby granted may be
revoked by this Council at any time in its discretion. Carried by the
following vote:

The Clerk reported that he had received complaints that the Neon sign
at Imperial Highway and Redondo Boulevard has not been burning as brightly
as usual, whereupon the City Engineer advised that he had called the matter
to the attention of the ;ieon Sign Lanufacturing Company, which installed said
sign, and was promised that immediate investigation and repair would be made.

Councilman Gerow stated that E-1 Segundo Progressive Democratic club
desired to use the Uouncil Chamber on the evening of February 15th, 1934, for
the purpose of holding a meeting, whereupon by general consent, this permission
was granted.
Loved by Councilman Selby, seconded by Councilman Gerow, that the City
Clerk be and he is hereby authorized and directed to advertise for bids, in
the manner provided by law, for approximately 575 tons of Tdo. 1 Crushed Rock,
approximately 75 tons.of No. 3 Crushed Rock and approximately 75.tons of No.
4 Crusted :cock, to be used in connection with the improvement of L1 Segundo
tsoulevard'adjacent to krizona Drive. Carried by the following vote:
Ayes: Councilmen Gerow, Hesser, Love, Selby and Mayor Binder.
Noes: Councilmen None.

Moved by Councilman Love, seconded by Councilman Hesser, that the
Chief of Police be and he is hereby authorized to purchase two 19 x 4.00
tires for use on the police motorcycles of the City of El Segundo, at a
cost of not to exceed '15.00. Carried by the following vote:

a member of the Board of trustees of E1 Segundo Public Library. Following
this announcement, it was moved by Councilman Love, seconded by Councilman
