A regular meeting of the City Council of the City of E1 Segundo,
California, was called to order at 7:00 o'clock P.M. on the above date, in
the Council Chamber of the City Hall of said City, by Peter E. Binder,

Councilmen Present: Gerow, Hesser and Layor Binder.
Councilmen Absent: Love and Selby.
READING OF .",M4UTES OF PREVIOUS I TING.
The minutes of the regular meeting held on the 1st day of August,
1934, were read. No errors or omissions appearing, it was moved by
Councilman Gerow, seconded by Councilman Hesser, that the minutes be
approved as read. Carried.
vile ITTEN COMMNICATIONS .
The following communications were read and disposed of as
indicated:
EL SEGTZ'D'O GRAIUR SCHOOL TRUSTEES, dated August 2nd, 1934,
advising that said Board has found it necessary to discontinue use of the
outside toilet at the old frame building at the Grammar School, and
expressing the hope that the Council will be able to provide necessary
toilet facilities for park workers somewhere in Library Park. A dis
cussion of the matter terminated in the suggestion that the Street
Superintendent confer with It% C. L. Broadwater, Superintendent and
Secretary of the Board of Grammar School Trustees, to see what the City
might do in the way of repairing the toilet referred to so as to permit
its employees to continue the use of the same, and to report back to
this Council at its next regular meeting.
H. A. PAYNE, County Auditor, dated August 1st, 1934, submitting
a form of r::odification of Contract now in effect between the county of
Los Angeles and the City of E1 Segundo, respecting the rate to be paid by
this City for the maintenance of prisoners committed to the County Jail
for violation of City Ordinances. t;:oved by Councilman Gerow, seconded by
councilman Hesser, that the following resolution be adopted:
"VMR AS, under date of April 10th, 1933, the city of
L1 Segundo entered into a certain contract with the County
of Los Angeles, for the care of prisoners incarcerated in
the County Jail for violations of municipal Ordinances,
which said contract specified a compensation of ,1.00 per
day for each such prisoner, to be paid by said City to said
County; and
it is now desired to modify said contract .so
as to provide that such rate shall be the sum of 95V per
day; and
-a&S, there has been submitted to this Council at
this meeting a form of agreement so modifying said original
contract;
NOW THEREFOEM, HE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of
the City of E1 Segundo, California, that the Mayor of said
City, on behalf of said City, and in its name, be, and he
is hereby authorized and instructed to execute the said
Kodification Agreement, and the City Clerk to attest the
same and cause delivery thereof to be made, a duplicate
copy, executed by the proper officers of said County, to
be filed in the office of said Clerk."

Said resolution was adopted by the following vote:
Ayes: Councilmen Gerow, Hesser and 'mayor Binder.
Noes: Councilmen None.
Absent: Councilmen Love and Selby.
D. A. ALFO ?:S0, County Tax Collector, dated August 3rd, 1934,
submitting a schedule showing the amount of delinquent assessments in
each of the special assessment districts in the City of E1 Segundo, for
the fiscal year 1933 -1934, as of June 30th, 1934, and making demand upon
the Council to provide funds for the payment of all such delinquent
assessments, and interest thereon, as required by law. Moved by Council-
man Gerow, seconded by Councilman Hesser, that this communication be
received and filed. Lotion carried.
=DUSTRLIL ACCIDIZ,T COIZUSSION, STATE OF CALL'ORNIA, dated
July 31st, 1934, being an air - pressure tank inspection report,
accompanying which was a permit to operate the air - pressure tank used
in connection with the Diaphone fire alarm signalling device of the
City of El Segundo. Ordered filed.

The City Engineer exhibited to the Council statement of
Pacific Electric Railway Company, in the sum of $1339.53, representing
costs to said Railway Company to reconstruct its track and facilities
at and adjacent to El Segundo Boulevard and Arizona Drive, on its
Hawthorne -E1 Segundo line, by reason of the improvement of Arizona
Drive between Imperial Highway and Rosecrans Avenue. Said statement
appearing to be satisfactory in all respects, and it appearing further
that the sum stated should be paid out of funds allocated by the
Division of Highways of the State of California to the Arizona Drive
(Sepulveda Boulevard) project, it was moved by Councilman Gerow,
seconded by Councilman Hesser, that the following resolution be
adopted:
"RZESOLI&�D, that detailed statement of the expenditures
by Pacific Electric Railway Company, for the reconstruction
of its track, pole - lines, and other facilities of its
Hawthorne El Segundo line across Arizona Drive (Sepulveda
Boulevard) by reason of the opening, widening and improvement
of said thoroughfare, be forwarded in triplicate to the
Department of Public Works, Division of Highways, of the
State of California, at Los Angeles, California, for the
attention of Pair. S. V. Cortelyou, District Engineer; and
M IT FL'RTHZR RESOLVED, that demand be made upon said
Department of Public :'forks for payment to the City of
E1 Segundo of the sum of $1339.53, which said sum, when
received, shall be used.to reimburse said Pacific Electric
Railway Company for its expenditures as herein referred to."
The foregoing resolution was adopted by the following vote:
Ayes: Councilmen Gerow, Hesser and Mayor Binder.
Noes: Councilmen None.
Absent: Councilmen Love and Selby.

The Street Superintendent, reporting in connection with the
work required to be done to put the electroliers at E1 Segundo
Boulevard and Inglewood- Redondo Road back into service, stated that
it will necessitate an expenditure of approximately $20.00. That the
connections.necessary to illuminate a stop sign at said location
will cost approximately $15.00. That a flasher type of stop sign
will cost $35.00 and a reflector type sign, $15.00, whereupon, by
general consent, the Council agreed that no action respecting the
matter would be taken at'this meeting, but that the members of said
Council available Saturday, next, would inspect the location and
decide upon the extent of the work they would authorize.
