June 21st, 1933.
A regular meeting of the City Council of the City of E1 Segundo,
California, was called to order at 7 :00 otelock P. M. on the above date,
in the Council Chamber of the City Hall of said City, by Peter E. Binder,
Mayor.
ROLL CALL.
Councilmen Present: Gerow, Krim e1, Selby and Mayor Binder.
Councilmen Absent: Love.
R IADING OF MINUTES OF PREVIOUS 1EETINGS.
The minutes of the regular meeting held on the 14th day of June, 1933,
were read. No errors or omissions appearing, it was moved by Councilman
Selby, seconded by Councilman Gerow, that the minutes-be approved as read.
Carried.
The minutes of the adjourned regular meetinC held on June 16th, 1933,
were read. No errors or omissions appearing, it was moved by Councilman
Selby, seconded by Councilman Gerow, that the minutes be approved as read.
Carried.
WRITTEN• COOMNICATIONS.
The folloring communications were-read and disposed of as indicated:

an invitation to attend the ceremonies in celebration of California Day
on the World's Fair Grounds, Chicago, Illinois, Friday, July 7th, 1933.

LOS ANGELES CHA1v3ER OF COI=RCE, Regional Beach Committee, dated
June 19th, 1933, requesting representation of the City of E1 Segundo
at a meeting to be held June 22nd, 1933, at the Los Angeles Chamber of
Commerce Building, Los Angeles, respecting the maintenance of life guard
service at Los Angeles County beaches. By general consent the Chief of
Police was instructed to attend this meeting.
EL S GUNDO KIWANIS CLUB, dated June 16th, 1933, inviting the members
of the City Council to attend the entertainment and special speaking
program to be held during the Kiwanis International Convention, at Hollywood
Bowl, June 26th, 1933, the occasion to be known as "All Kiwanis" night.

LEAGUE OF CALIFORNIA MUNICIPnLITDZ, dated June 15th, 1933, supplementing
its Bulletin of June 10th, 1933, containing excerpts from the National Public
Works Bill and stressing the importance of cities acting immediately in
connection with the filing of questionnaires -on such public work projects
as they may anticipate Federal aid upon. Ordered filed.-

1933, advising that a report "of the-Joint Technical Committee on Earthquake

REPORTS OF OF_ICERS AND SPECIAL CQM UTIEES.
The City Engineer reported having attended a meeting this date, at the
Los Angeles Chamber of Commerce Building, Los Angeles, where approximately
125 Los Angeles County officials and officials of the municipalities of said
County discussed the National Public Works bill, and he related to the Council
the discussions had at said meeting and the conclusions he drew therefrom.
The City Attorney reported having conferred with representatives of
Los Angeles County and of the State of California, respecting the deposit
in Court by these political entities, of the monies allocated by them for
the purpose of defraying the costs of removing and relocating st1nctures
required to be removed and relocated in connection with the proceedings for
the opening, widening and improvement of Arizona Drive (also sometimes known
as Sepulveda Boulevard) within the City of El Segundo; that he was advised
that such procedure is not followed by either, where they are not the parties
plaintiff in the action and that therefore, he will make a personal appearance
before the presiding Judge of the Superior Court and attenpt to procure an
order for immediate possession, without the necessity of depositing all of the
money estimated to be required to reimburse all of the utilities involved
in the proceeding.

Moved by Councilman Gerow, seconded by Councilman Selby, that the
demands be allowed and warrants drawn on and paid out of the General Fund
covering the same. Carried by the following vote:

Noes: Councilmen None.
Absent: Councilman Love.
NEW BUSINESS.
Councilman Gerow introduced Ordinance No. 190, entitled:
AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF EL SEGUNDO, CALIFORNIA,
ADOPTED PURSUANT TO THE PROVISIONS OF CHAPTER NO. 178
OF TIC STATUTES OF 1933 OF THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA
RELATING TO THE MANUFACTURE, DISTRIBUTION AND SALE OF
CERTAIN BEVERAGES; CLASSIFYING THE VARIOUS TYPES OF
LICENSES; AND PRESCRIBING TIIE ANDUNT AND MANraM OF
COLLECTION OF LICENSE Fr--MS THEREUNDER,
which was read.
The Fire Chief recommended Mr. W. A. Callahan be employed for four r
days, so as to•break in as•janitor and relief fire engine driver in order
to be qualified to ralio a the regular• jani tors and f ire engine drivers
during vacation periods; whereupon it was moved by Councilman Selby,
seconded by Councilman Gerow, that for the purpose of familiarizing himself
with the duties and requirements thereof, Mr. W. A. Callahan be employed as
relief fire engine driver and janitor, for a period of four days, but not to
exceed six hours per day, beginning Tuesday, June 27th, 1933, and that he
be compensated at the rate of $93.33 per month for a period not to exceed
twenty -four hours, such compensation to be in full for all sgrvices rendered
the City of E1 Segundo by aaid employee. Carried by the following vote:
Ayes: Councilmen Gerow, Krimmel, Selby and Mayor Binder.
Noes: Councilmen None.
Absent: Councilman Love.
No further business appearing to be transacted at this meeting, it
was moved by Councilman Selbq,, seconded by Councilman Gerow, that the meeting
adjourn. Carried.
