1932 JUN 08 CC MIN291 E1 Segundo, California. June 8th, 1932. A regular meeting of the City Council of the City of El Segundo, Chlifornia, was called.to order at 7:00 o'clock P. M. on the above date, in the Council Chamber of the City Hall of said City, by Peter Be Binder, Mayor. ROLL CALL. Councilman Present: Gerow, Krimmel, Love, Selby and Mayor Binder. Councilmen Absent: None. READING OF MIldUTES OF PREVIOUS MEETING. The minutes of the regular meeting held on the 1st day of June, 1932, were read. No errors or omissions appearing, it was moved by Councilman Selby, seconded by Councilman Gerow, that the minutes be approved as read. Carried. WRITTEN OOMMUNIGATIONS. The following communications were read and disposed of as indicated: NATIONAL AUDIT AMID APPRAISAL CO. INC., dated May 31st, 1932, advising that said firm has devised a new standardized accounting system for cities of the Sixth Class and soliciting an engagement to install the same. Ordered filed. HONORABLE SAM M. SHORTRIDGE, telegram dated June 4th, 1932, acknowledging the Clerk's communication of May 24th, which conveyed to the Senator the Council's sentiments respecting a reduction in Federal Government expenses. Ordered filed. PETITION OF J. A. SMITH and seventeen others, undated, requesting the Council to reduce business licenses until economic conditions improve. A discussion of this matter ensued, at the conclusion of which the Clerk was instructed to advise the petitioners that the Council has contemplated a reconsideration of the business license ordinance, and that it expeuts to take action respecting the sable to become effective at the beginning of the Fourth Quarter of the Year 1932, it now being impossible to have the same effective during the Third Quarter of said year. None. REPORTS OF STANDING COM1ITTEES. REPORTS OF OFFICERS AND SPECIAL COMMITTEES. The City Engineer.read to the Council reports he had received from the Hartford Steam Boiler Inspection and Insurance Company, respecting the electrical motor equipment of the City of E1 Segundo. The city Attorney reported having had a conference with Mr. Ford, manager of the Security Title Insurance and.Guarantee company, respecting. a proposed escrow for the deposit'•of "deeds and instructions in.. connection with the dedication to the City..of 'E1 Segundo of certain real property to be acquired by said City in the opening, widening and improvement of Sepulveda Blvd. Following discussion, it was decided to include in the escrow instructions used in connection with this matter, the following: 1. That the escrow shall be for a period of six months. 2. lbat in event the escrow is not completed through 292 1 fault of the City of E1 Segundo, then and in that event the City shall pay the cost thereof, but not to exceed $5.00 per deed involved. None. 3. 'That if and when title insurance policies are written by said Title Company, the liability shall equal the consideration paid by the City for the parcels insured. 4. The amounts to be paid by the City of E1 Segundo for the respective parcels to be acquired by the said City shall not exceed the awards made by the Commissioners appointed for the purpose as indicated in their report dated March 29th, 1932, and supplements to said report on file in the office of the city Clerk. Carried by the following vote: Ayes: Councilmen Gerow, Krimmel, Love, Selby and Mayor Binder. Noes: Councilmen None, Absent: Councilmen None. NEW BUSINESS. Moved by Councilman Selby, seconded by Councilman Gerow, that Don C. Fugitt, City Judge, be and he is hereby granted his customary annual two weeks vacation, beginning June 27th, 1932; it being understood that arrange- ments have been made with Sam G. $ust1n; Justice•of. the Peace of Redopdo Township to•substitute for Judge Fugitt if and when nacessary:during said vacation period, and that said substitute shall be compensated in the sum of not to exceed $10.00 for each actual and necessary court session held by him for the City of E1 Segundo during said time. Carried by the following vote: Ayes: Councilmen Gerow, Kriamel, Love, Selby and Mayor Binder, Noes: Councilmen None, Absent: Councilmen None. No further business appearing to be transacted at this meeting, it was moved by Councilman Gerow, seconded by Councilman Selby, that the meeting adjourn. Carried.
