1931 JUN 10 CC MINIOT El Segundo, California. June 10th, 1931. A regular meeting of the City Council of the City of E1 Segundo, California, was called to order at 7:00 o'clock P. L. on the above date, in the Council Cham-�er of the City Hall of said City, by :�eorge Love, Mayor. ROLL CALL. Councilmen Present: " Gerow, Selby and Love. Councilmen absent: Binder and Krimmel. _READ= OF i. INU —ES OF PREVIOUS i :TRIG. The minutes of the regular meeting held on the 3rd day of June, 1931, were read. Yo errors or omissions appearing, it was moved by Councilman Selby, seconded by Councilman Gerow, that the minutes be approved as read. Carried. ,JRITTEN COLI,IINICATIONS. The following communications were read and disposed of as indicated: ALTX1031LE CLUB OF SOUL -T'R11I CLLIMOIINIA, dated June 2nd, 1931, calling attention to the fact that by reason of a change in the speed limit laws of the State of California, effective August 14th, 1931, it will be necessary to replace the present speed limit signs with new signs indicating the speed limits permitted in the different districts. At the suggestion of Councilman Selby, the Chief of Police was instructed to prepare a list of the signs required within the City of E1 Segundo, and submit the same to this Council for its consideration at the next regular meeting. - XINICIFI -L TRLYFIC 1:EAGUL, dated June 6th, 1931, announcing the Sixth Annual Convention of said Lea�ue at San Francisco, June 25th, 26th and 27th, 1931, and inviting attendance from the City of yl Segundo. Ordered filed. ORAL COi,uyiUNICATIOAIS. Mr. 0. K. Gibbons addressed the Council relative to storm waters which flood his premises in rainy weather and urged the Iouncil to provide a sump or other means of relief. The ;Mayor suggested that the Council and the City -:ngineer would investigate the matter in the near future. Mr. A. J. Sullivan addressed the Council relative to a section of the Uniform Building Code respecting the building of chimneys, and after considerable discussion it was agreed, by general consent, that the existing provision would be amended. REPORTS OF S�L%IMDIG CO'11=17ES. 'Cbuncilman Gerow reported that st,,ay, dogs seem to 'be a - considerable _ annoyance in certain parts'of the City and requested that the matter have the attention of the Police Department. REPORTS OF OFD ICERS AND SPECIAL CO !,'IT'TEES. The Chief of Police announced the revocation of the appointment of .I. IG. Keefer as a Special Police Officer. The Chief of Police announced the appointment of tie. W. Yvhitney as a Special Police Officer, requesting approval of the appointment, and upon motion of Councilman Gerow, seconded by Councilman Selby, which carried unanimously, said appointment was ratified and approved. 1oBK, None. UNFINISHED BUSINESS. PAYING BUT . The following demands, having had the approval of the Committee on Finance and Records, were read: Ayes: Councilmen Gerow, Selby and Love. Noes: None. Absent: Councilmen Binder and Krimmel. NEW BUSI1 ES S . Moved by Councilman Selby, seconded by Councilman Gerow, that H. J. Sherphorn be and he is hereby appointed to the office of Police Officer of the City of E1 Segundo, to assume the duties of said office June 12th, 1931. Said appointee shall serve as such Police Officer during the pleasure of this Council and until the further order thereof shall be compensated for all services rendered the City of E1 Segundo as such Police Officer at the rate of X150.00 per month, which said compensation shall be payable monthly as other municipal employees compensated on a monthly basis are paid. The services and duties required "of said appointee shall be those usually required of a Police Officer, and the hours during which said appointee shall be required to serve the City of E1 Segundo shall conform in all respects to the hours and regulations heretofore fixed by this Council for all other Police Officers of the City of B1 Segundo, under the direction of the Chief of Police of said amity. Carried by the following vote: Ayes: Councilmen Gerow, Selby and Love. Noes: None. Absent: Councilmen Binder and Krimmel. roved by Councilman Selby, seconded by Uounci] man Ger.oW, that Southern California Telephone �,ozpauy be and it is hereby granted permission to set twelve poles and one anchor on the South side of Imperial Highway, between Sheldon Street and Center Street, provided said poles are placed on a line approximately twenty -two feet South of the center line of said imperial Highway, and provided further, that this work is prosecuted and completed to the satisfaction of the Street Superintendent of the amity of -E1 Segundo. Carried. Moved by Councilman Gerow, seconded by Councilman Selby, that the purchase of 501# of grass seed for use in the Library Park be and the same is hereby authorized at a cost of not to exceed $30.00.
