A regular meeting of•the.City Council of the .City of E1 Segundo,
California, was celled to-order at 7:00 o'clock P. M. on the above - -
date, in the Council Chamber -of the City Hall of said City, by George -
Love, Mayor.
ROLL CALL.
Councilmen Present: Gerow, Krimmel, -Selby and Love.
Councilmen Absent: Binder,
READING OF MINUTES OF PREVIOUS MEETING.
The minutes of the regular meeting held on the 1st day of July,
1931, were read. No errors or omissions appearing, it was moved by
Councilman Selby, seconded by Councilman Gerow, that the minutes be
approved as read. Carried*,
Councilman Binder appeared during the reading of the minutes,
the hour being 7:07 o'clock P. M., and he immediately took his seat
at the Council table.
WRITTEN COMUUNICATIONS.
The following communications were read and disposed of as
indicated:
S. Co EVANS, Executive Director, Boulder Dam Association, dated
July third, 1931, entitled "Remarks on the Address by Engineer F. Co
Finkle of Los Angeles at Metropolitan High School, June 27th, 1931 ".
S. C. EVANS, Executive Director, Boulder Dam Association, dated
July 1st, 1931, entitled "Title to use of water as distinguished from
the absolute title to water ". Both communications ordered filed.
NAME B. BEATTY, Chief clerk, Board of Supervisors, County of Los
Angeles, thanking the Council for its expression of willingness to
cooperate with the County Flood Control Engineer, in the matter of new
subdivisions within the City of E1 Segundo. Ordered filed.
FAUI =R, OAKES AND FAULKNER, dated June 30th, 1931, advising
that -said firm had filed with the City Clerk a bid for auditing the
City accounts for the fiscal year ending June 30th, 1932. Ordered filed.

Councilman Krimmel expressed the belief that the hedge partially
surrounding the property at the Southeast corner of Grand Avenue and
Virginia Street should be removed or trimmer}, so that the same will not
interfere with the free use of the sidewalk at said location, and by
general consent the matter was referred to the Street Superintendent for
attention.

The City Clerk reported that property owners in the vicinity of
Cypress Street and Acacia Avenue had made a request for the
installation of a street light at said corner, and Councilman
Krimmel suggested the desirability of a street light at the inter-
section of Cedar Street and Acacia Avenue, whereupon it was moved by
Councilman Gerow, seconded by Councilman Krimmel, that Southern
California Edison Company be and it is hereby requested to install
a 60 cop. street light at the corner of Cedar Street and Acacia Avenue
and at the corner of Cypress Street and Acacia Avenue, all as an
addition to the current street lighting contract between the city of
E1 Segundo Asia and said Southern California Edison Company*
married by the following vote:
Ayes: Councilmen Binder, Gerow, hrimmel, Selby and Love.
Noes: None.
Absent: None.

Moved by Councilman Selby, seconded by Councilman Krimmel, that
the demands be allowed and warrants drawn on and paid out of the respective
funds covering the same. Carried by the following vote:
Ayes: Councilmen Binder, Gerow, Krimme1, Selby and Love.

NThe Street Superintendent stated that at one time several members
of the Council favored the improvement of the iiorth side of +rand Avenue,
past of zucalyptus Drive and that if the Council is at present so minded,
he would like authority to proceed with this work at the present time,
viscussion ensued, during which Councilman Binder expressed the opinion
that certain other streets without any improvement whatever should be
worked on before Grand Avenue, which is an improved street. At the
conclusion of the discussion,.it was moved by.•Copncilman Gerow,..seconded .
by Qounc ilman Selby, than the Street Superintendent be and. he is hereby
authorized and directed to r.epe:ir the north side Of the roadway of (;rand-
Avenue, East of Eucalyptus Drive. yarried by the following vote:
Ayes: Councilmen Gerow, Krimmel, Selby and Love.
Noes: Councilman Binder.
Absent: luone.
The City Engineer drew attention to the desirability of enlarging
the living room of the amity of L1 Segundo dwelling house, located at No.
616 West imperial highway. Councilman Gerow added that he had made an
inspection of the building and felt the proposed improvement is desirable

and that it could be accomplished at small cost. it was then moved
by councilman uerow, seconded by a ouncilman Krimme1, that remodeling
of that certain dwelling house, property of the City of E1 Segundo,
located at No. 616 West Imperial Highway, by enlarging the living
room thereof, be and the same is hereby authorized at a total cost
of not to exceed $150.00. Carried by the following vote:
Ayes: Councilmen Binder, Gerow, Krimmel, Selby and Love.
Noes: None.
Absent: None.
Moved by Councilman Selby, seconded by Councilman Krimmel,
that Mrs. Alice Hope, Publicity Director of the City of E1 Segundo,
be and she is hereby granted her customary annual two weeks vacation,
beginning July 10th, 1931, and that said employee be granted a
leave of absence for an additional two weeks, without compensation.
Carried by the following vote:
Ayes: Councilmen Binder, Gerow, Krimmel, Selby and Love.
Noes: None.
Absent: None.
Moved by Councilman Gerow, seconded by Councilman Selby, that
Southern California Edison Company be directed to discontinue light
service to that certain advertising sign located adjacent to the
intersection of Imperial Highway and Inglewood- Redondo Road. Carried
by the following vote:
Ayes: Councilmen Binder, Gerow, Krimmel, Selby and-Love.
Noes: None.
Absent; None.
No further business appearing to be transacted at this meeting,
it was moved by Councilman Gerow, seconded by Councilman Selby, that
the meeting adjourn. Carried.
