1930 OCT 08 CC MINEl- Segundo, California. October 8th, 1930. A regular meeting of the City Council of the City of El Segundo, California, was called to order at 7:00 o'clock P. M. on the above date, in the Council Chamber of the City Hall of said City, by George Love, Mayor. ROLL CULL. Councilmen Present: Binder, Gerow, Krimmel, Selby and Love. Councilmen Absent: None. READING OF MINUTES OF PREVIOUS MEETING. The minutes of the regular meeting held on the lot day of October, 1930, were read. No errors or omissions appearing, it was moved by Councilman Gerow, seconded by Councilman Krimmel, that the minutes be approved as read. Carried. WRITTEN COMMUNICATIONS. The following communications were read and disposed of as indicated: LOS ANGELES COUNTY HEALTH OFFICER, dated October 6th, 1930, being a report of the activities of Los Angeles County Health Department as Health Officer of the City of El Segundo within said City during the month of August, 1930. Ordered filed. C. J. RAMBO k COMPANY, dated October 7th, 1930, soliciting the contract for auditing the books and records of the City of El Segundo on a quarterly basis for the fiscal year ending June 30th, 1930. Ordered filed. LOS ANGELES COUNTY GRAND JURY, dated October 6th, 19300 suggesting a lavatory be installed in the City Jail of the City of E1 Segundo. By general consent the letter was referred to the City Attorney for an opinion as to the extent of the authority of said Los Angeles County Grand Jury in such matters. REPORTS OF STARmING COMMITTEES. Councilman Gerow reported that he and Councilman Binder had inspected the roof of the City Hall, had found the same in very good condition, but recommended that for the preservation of the roof it be given a coat of roof paint. Likewise that the iron ladders leading to the roof of the annex and thence to the roof of the City Hall be scraped and painted, and that the arch over the entrance to the Fire Engine Room, which developed a serious crack sometime ago, be repaired or changed structurally so as to be safe at all times. These various matters were discussed at some length, at the conclusion of which it was moved by Councilman Gerow, seconded by Councilman Krimmel, that the City Engineer be and he is hereby directed to cause the iron ladders leading to the roof of the City Hall Annex and to the roof of the City Hall, to be scraped and painted; to cause the roof of the City Hall and the City Hall Annex to be given a coat of satisfactory roof paint, and to cause the roof of the municipal warehouse likewise to be given a coat of satisfactory roof paint, if, after examination, it appears to be necessary so to do, provided that all of said work be done by force account and so far as possible by municipal employees. Carried by the following vote: Ayes: Councilmen Binder, Gerow, Krimmel, Selby and Love. Noes: None. Absent: None. Moved by Councilman Binder, seconded by Councilman Gerow, that the City Engineer of the City of E1 Segundo be and he is hereby inst,ructed to cause the brick arch over the entrance to the Fire Engine Room—'be repaired, or be replaced, by the substitution of a steel I beam to carry the load in place of the said brick arch, such repair or structural change be left to the discretion of said City Engineer, following his examination of the said arch, the change at all events to be in accordance with good building practice. Carried by the following notes Ayes: Councilmen Binder, Gerow, Krimmel, Selby and Love. Noes: None. Absent: None. UNFINISHED BUSINESS. The City Clerk drew attention to the fact that no action had been taken respecting the meeting to be held at the City Hall at Lynwood, California, October 18th, 1930, for the purpose of discussing the Metropolitan Water District- whereupon by general consent Councilman Peter E. Binder and 6ity Engineer R. T. Hutchins were authorized to represent the City of E1 Segundo. PAYING BILLS. Carried by the following vote: Ayes: Councilmen Binder, Gerow, Krimmel, Selby and Love. Noes: None. Absent: None. NEW BUSINESS. Moved by Councilman Binder, that Lodge No. 507, F. & A. M., be to use the City Hall auditorium on December 15th, the customary rental each of such uses. Carried. seconded by Councilman Krimmel, and it is hereby granted permission the evenings of October 29th and charge of $3.75 to be made for Moved by Councilman Selby, seconded by Councilman Krimmel, that the Altar Society of St. A,nthony•e_Church be and it is hereby granted permission to use the City Hall Auditorium on the evening of October 21st, 1920, for the purpose of giving a benefit card party. Carried. Moved by Councilman Selby, seconded by Councilman Krimmel, that the purchase of one tire and tube for use on the Sewer Department Ford truck be and the same is hereby authorized, the total cost thereof not to exceed 11.55. Carried by the following vote: Ayes: Councilmen Binder, Gerow, Krimmel, Selby and Love. Noes: None. Absent: None.
