1930 AUG 27 CC MINJ647 E1 Segundo, California. August 27th, 1930. A regular meeting of the City Council of the City of E1 Segundo, California, was called to order at 7t00 o'clock P. M. on the above date, in the Council Chamber of the City Hall of said City, by the City Clerk, the Mayor being absent. Councilman Binder was unanimously chosen Mayor pro -tem, and he immediately assumed the duties of the Mayor. ROLL CALL. Councilmen Presents Gerow, Krimmel and Binder. Councilmen Absents Love and Selby. READING OF MINUTES OF PREVIOUS MEETING. The minutes of the regular meeting held on the 20th day of August, 1930, were read. No errors or omissions appearing, it was moved by Councilman. Gerow, seconded by Councilman Krimmel, that the minutes be approved as read. Carried. WRITTEN COMMUNICATIONS. The following communications were read and disposed of as indicated: J. L. POMEROY, M. D., Los Angeles County Health Officer, being a report of the activities of the Los Angeles County Health Department, within the City of E1 Segundo, during the month of July, 1930. Ordered filed. GEORGE P. LARSEN, Secretary, Celebration Committee, Sepulveda Highway Celebration, stating that on Friday, September 26th, 1930, a celebration will be held at Sepulveda tunnel, celebrating the completion of said tunnel and the connection thereby of the Northerly and Southerly links of 6epulveda Highway, and requesting that suggestions which thig City may have to offer, be forwarded immediately. Ordered filed. SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA TELEPHONE COMPANY, being an application to affix an anchor to an existing pole on the North side of Mariposa Avenue West of Hillcrest Street. The application, having been approved by the Street Superintendent, it was moved by Councilman Gerow, seconded by Councilman Krimmel, that Southern California Telephone Company be and it is hereby granted permission to install and attach an anchor to it= present pole on the North side of Mariposa Avenue West of Hillcrest Street, provided this work is prosecuted and completed to the satisfaction of the Street Superintendent of the City of El Segundo. Carried. G. E. Todd and J. W. Gilbert, being a request for the segregation of certain assessments levied against certain property owned by the petitioners. The request, having been examined by the Street Superintendent and the segregation as suggested, having met with the approval of said officer, it was moved by Councilman Krimmel, seconded by Councilman Gerow, that Resolution No. 235, entitled: A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF EL SEGUNDO, CALIFORNIA, ACQUIESCING IN THE REQUEST OF THE OWNERS OF CERTAIN PROPERTY WITHIN SAID CITY TO THE SEGREGATION OR DIVISION OF CERTAIN ASSESSMENTS LEVIED UPON THE PROPERTY OF SUCH OWNER FOR THE IMPROVEMENT OF A PORTION OF MAPLE AVENUE WITHIN SAID CITY, AS PROVIDED FOR UNDER RESOLUTION OF INTENTION NO. 61 OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES (NOW CITY COUNCIL) OF SAID CITY, ,649 which was read, be adopted. Carried by the following votes Ayes: Councilmen Gerow, Krimmel and Binder. Noess None. Absent: Councilmen Love and Selby. None. ORAL COMMICATIONS. REPORTS OF STANDING COMTTEES. Councilman Binder reported that he and City Engineer Hutchins had viewed the West end of Imperial Highway, at which point many motorists get into difficulty by reason of running into sand in the belief that said highway continues Westerly to the ocean. Following discussion of this matter, it was moved by Councilman Gerow, seconded by Councilman Krimmel, that the Street Superin- tendent be and he is hereby instructed to construct and erect, at or near the intersection of Imperial Highway and Main Street, and at or near the intersection of Hillcrest Street and Imperial Highway, signs informing motorists that Imperial Highway is not • through street, and that said Street Superintendent also cause • danger reflector to be erected at the Westerly terminus of said Imperial Highway. Carried by the following votes Ayes= Councilmen Gerow, Krimmel and Binder. Noess gone. Absent: Councilmen Love and Selby. REPORTS OF OFFICERS AND SPECIAL COMMITTEES. The Street Superintendent reported that the grading of sand on Loma Vista Street South of Franklin Avenue had been completed. The Street Superintendent reported also that the Board of High School Trustees desire to remove the trees from and construct cement concrete sidewalk in a portion of the parking in front of the High School on the East side of Main Street between Oak Avenue and Mariposa Avenue. Discussion of the matter ensued, following which it was moved by Councilman Gerow, seconded by Councilman Krimmel, that the following resolution be adopteds RESOLVED, that the Trustees of El Segundo High School District, be and they are hereby granted permission to cause cement concrete sidewalk to be constructed in a portion of the parking in front of the High School on the East side of Main Street, between mariposa Avenue and Oak Avenue, according to the specifications of the City of El Segundo governing such work, provided provision be made for the maintenance of street trees at locations as presently indicated, and provided further, that all of the work herein con- templated shall have been completed within three months after this date, and provided further, that all of said work shall be completed to the satisfaction of the Street Superintendent of the City of E1 Segundo. Motion to adopt the foregoing resolution was carried by the following votes Ayes; Councilmen Gerow, Krimmel and Binder. Noess None. Absents Councilmen Love and Selby. The City Clerk reported receipt of draft from the Pacific Indemnity Company in the sum of $25.33, apparently tendered in payment of damage sustained by one of the motor vehicles of the City of El Segundo, by reason of the same having been struck by one of the trucks of the Western Dairy Products, Inc., on or about the second day of August, 1930. He requested authority of the Council to execute, on behalf of the City of E1 Segundo, the receipt and release form accompanying said draft, whereupon it was moved by Councilman Krimmel, seconded by Councilman Gerow, that the following resolution be adopted: RESOLVED, that the City Clerk of the City of E1 Segundo be and he is hereby authorised and directed to execute, on behalf of said City, that certain receipt and release accompanying the draft of Pacific Indemnity Company, in the sum of $25.33, tendered in payment of damage sustained by one of the motor vehicles of the City of E1 Segundo, on or about the second day of August, 1930, after he has satisfied himself, through consultation with the Street Superintendent of said City, that said motor vehicle, so damaged, has been satisfactorily repaired, and that the sum, so tendered, is sufficient to cover the bill of Ira E. Escobar, the Ford dealer, for making the required repairs. Motion to adopt the foregoing resolution was carried by the following votes Ayes: Councilmen Gerow, Krimmel and Binder. Noes: None.
