1929 SEP 27 CC MINEl Segundo, California. September 27th, 1929. A regular meeting of the City Council of the City of E1 Segundo, California, was called to order at 7 :00 o'clock P. M. on the above date, in the Council Chamber of the City Ball of said City, by Peter E. Binder, Mayor. ROLL CALL. Councilmen Present: Gerow, Krimmel, Love, Selby and Binder. Councilmen Absent: None. READING OF MINUTES OF PREVIOUS IMETING. The minutes of the regular meeting held on the 20th day of September, 1929, were read. No errors or omissions appearing, it was moved by Councilman Love, seconded by Councilman Selby, that the minutes be approved as read. Carried. WRITTEN COMMUNICATIONS. The following communications were read and disposed of as indicated: LOS ANGELES COUNTY HEALTH DEPARTMENT, dated September 23rd, 1929, being a report of its activities within the City of El Segundo during the month of August, 1929. Ordered filed. UNION INDEMNITY COMPANY, dated September 21st, 1929, acknowledging that its policies Nos. LAU 334854 and LAU 334733 issued to the City of E1 Segundo covered the city's liability or obligations imposed by Section 1714 of the Civil Code of the State of Caliib rnia. The City Attorney expressed the opinion that in view of the liability acknowledged in said letter, further endorsement of the policies referred to would not be necessary and the letter was ordered filed. None. ORAL CCQ.OaMICATIONS. REPORTS OF STANDING COMMITTEES. Councilman Gerow expressed the opinion that in view of the increased traffic on Collingwood street he felt that the City could obtain some beneficial advertising by having erected a sign or signs which would direct through E1 Segundo traffic destined for the South beaches. The matter was referred to the Chief of Police to attempt to procure a standard traffic direction sign from the Automobile Club of Southern California. REPORTS OF OFFICERS & SPECIAL COMld'ITTEES. Councilman Selby reported having attended a special meeting of a Committee organized for the purpose of conducting a Hallowe'en frolic, which was held Thursday, September 26th, and that in response to a request therefor, he advised the said Committee that in his opinion the City would erect a Judges' platform and arrange for the necessary electrical illumination. The Council concurring in the opinion, it was moved by Councilman Gerow, seconded by Councilman Love, that the Street Supe �.,,,, tendent be and he is hereby instructed to erect the City's portable,4platform and string the necessary electrical wiring for lighting the location at which the 1929 Hallowe'en frolic will be held. Carried by the following votes Ayes: Councilmen Gerow, Krimmel, Love, Selby and Binder. Noes: None. Absent: None. J 301 Moved by Councilman Krimmel, seconded by Councilman Love, that Councilmen Gerow and Selby, Water Superintendent R. T. Hutchins and City Clerk Victor D. McCarthy, be and they are hereby authorized to attend the 31st Annual Convention of the League of California Municipalities, to be held at Oakland, California, October 7th to 11th, Incl. 1929, as delegates representing the City of El Segundo, and that each of said delegates be and he is hereby allowed the sum of $90.00 to defray his expenses in connection therewith; also that Clyde Woodworth, City Attorney, likewise be authorized to attend as a delegate representing the City of E1 Segundo, but that in view of the fact that he will also represent the City of Inglewood, which said City will contribute toward the expenses of his attendance at said convention, said Attorney be allowed the sum of 045.00 to defray his expenses in connection with his attendance at said Convention. Carried by the following votes Ayes: Councilmen Gerow, Krimmel, Love, Selby and Binder. Noes: None. Absent: None. Moved by Councilman Selby, seconded by Councilman Krimmel, that the purchase of two 30 x 3Q tires and tubes and one 34-x 4 tire and tube, for use on motor vehicles of the City of El Segundo, be and the same is hereby authorized at a total cost of not to exceed 050.00. Carried by the following vote: Ayes: Councilmen Gerow, Krimmel, Love, Selby and Binder. Noest None. Absent: None. The City Engineer reported it had become necessary during the week to have repairs made to the City of E1 Segundo's transit and other engineering apparatus, the cost of which amounted to 036.00. It appearing that the repairs were essential and the equipment was needed for immediate use in connection with engineering work of the City of E1 Segundo, it was moved by Councilman Gerow, seconded by Councilman Selby, that the action of the City Engineer in ordering certain repairs to certain apparatus of the Engineering Department be and the same is hereby approved, and that the demands for such work, when properly prepared and filed, be ordered paid. Carried by the following vote: Ayes: Councilmen Gerow, Krimmel, Love, Selby and Binder. Noes: None. Absent: None. Peter E. Binder, Mayor, verbally tendered his resignation as Mayor of the City of E1 Segundo and by general consent action thereon was taken under advisement. No further business appearing to be transacted at this session, it was moved by Councilman Love, seconded by Councilman Krimmel, that the meeting adjourn until Wednesday, the 2nd day of October, 1929, at the hour of 4:40 o'clock P.
