A regular meeting of the City Council of the City of El Segundo,
California, was called to order at 7s00 o'clock P. M. on the above
date, in the Council Chauber of the City Hall of said City, by Peter
E. Binder, Mayor.
ROLL CALL.
Councilmen Presents Gerow, Krimmel, Dove, Selby and Binder.
Councilmen Absent: None.
READING OF MINUTES OF PREVIOUS 1!EETING.
The minutes of the regular meeting held on the 24th day of May, 1929,
were read. No errors or omissions appearing, it was moved by Councilman
Krimmel, seconded by Councilman Love, that the minutes be approved as
read. Carried.
WRITTEN CaWKUNICATIONS.
The following communications were read and disposed of as indicateds
JACOB W. HARTMAN, Chairman, Taxation Committee, School of Citizenship
and Public Administration Short Course, to be held at the University of
Southern California, June 10th to 219t, Incl. 1929, dated May 6th, 19290
calling attention to the taxation section of said course, and suggesting
participation of members of El Segundo municipal organization. Ordered
filed.
CLIFFORD N. AMSDEN, Chairman, Personnel in Public Service Committee,
of the School of Citizenship and Public Administration Short Course,
of the Universi ty o f Southern Cal if ornia, dated April 29 th, 1929,
soliciting interest in this project. Ordered tiled.
PACIFIC TELEPHONE & TELEGRAPH CO., dated May 28th, 1929, requesting
permission to set certain poles and anchors on certain of the public
streets within the City of E1 Segundo in accordance with the sketch
therefor attached to said letter. Moved by Councilman Love, seconded
by Councilman Krimmel, that Pacific Telephone & Telegraph Company be
and it is hereby granted permission to place four poles and two anchors
on the North side of Walnut Avenue East of Sheldon Street; four poles
and one anchor on the West side of the alley East of Loma Vista Street
South of Holly Avenue, and one anchor on the South side of Grand Avenue
West of Loma Vista Street, provided said construction is first approved
by the Street Superintendent of the City of El Segundo, and provided
further that such work is prosecuted and completed to his satisfaction.

ORAL COMMUNICATIONS.
REPORTS OF STANDING COINITTEES,
REPORTS OF OFFICERS & SPECIAL COWITTEES.
The City Attorney, reporting with respect to cancelling certain
accrued penalties against Lot 9, Block 8, Tract 1686, by reason of the
failure of Alfred W. Wheldon, owner of said lot, to pay a certain
assessment levied for the opening of certain new public streets under
the provisions of Resolution of Intention No. 154, advised having
reviewed the matter, and that in his opinion there is no legal way to
cancel the charges.
The City Clerk reported receipt of street deed executed by
Alfred W. Wheldon and Annette Wheldon, his wife, conveying certain
real property needed in connection with the opening of Acacia Street
and other streets, under the provisions of Resolution of Intention No. 154
and Ordinance No. 135, to the City of El Segundo for public street
purposes. It was thereupon moved by Councilman Love, seconded by

Councilman Selby, that that certain deed, executed by Alfred W.
Wheldon and Annette Wheldon, his wife, dated the 18th day of May
1929, conveying to the City of El Segundo for public street purposes,
the following described property, to -wits
The Northerly 40 feet of Lot 90 Block S.
Tract 1685, as recorded in Book 21, Page
'98,of Maps, Records of Los Angeles County,
Califbmia, on file in the office of the
County Recorder of said County,
and the property conveyed thereby, be accepted on behalf of the City
of El Segundo, and the City Clerk of the City of El Segundo be and he
Is hereby authorized, upon receipt of advices from the Southwest Title
Company, that through such instrument the City of El Segundo will
acquire title to said real property, free and clear of encumbrance, to
cause the said deed to be filed for record, and to cause to be delivered
to the grantors, the amount awarded them in the report of the Commissioners
appointed for such purpose, under the provisions of Ordinance No. 135 of
the said City. Carried by the following vote:

UNFINISHED BUSINESS.
A revised draft of a proposed ordinance prohibiting the distribution
of handbills within the City of El Segundo was presented by the City
Attorney and examined by the Council, after which Councilman Gerow
Introduced Ordinance No. 160, entitled:
AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF EL SEGUNDO, CALIFORNIA,
REGULATING THE DISTRIBUTION OF HAND BILLS AND OTHER
NOTICES OR ADVERTISEMENTS, AND THE POSTING OR
STICKING OF STICKERS OR SIMILAR NOTICES OR PLACARDS
WITHIN SAID CITY, AND REPEALING ALL ORDINANCES OR
PARTS OF ORDINANCES IN CONFLICT THEREWITH,
which was read.

in the matter of rates, tolls and other business of Southern Califomia
Telephone Company, Pacific Telephone & Telegraph Company, and United States
Long Distance Telephone & Telegraph Company, to be had June 7th, 1929, and
at any and all adjournments of said hearing, as official representative of
the City of El Segundo, and to report to this Council what occurred thereat,
and to take such action at said hearing or adjournments thereof on behalf of
the City of El Segundo as to him appear necessary, and to file his demand
for his necessary expenses in connection therewith. Carried by the
following votes

No further business appearing to be transacted at this meeting, it was
