A regular meeting of the City Council of the City of El Segundo,
California, was called to order at 7s00 o•clook P. M. on the above date,
in the Council Chamber of the City Hall of said City, by Peter ►,
Binder, Mayor.
ROLL CALL,
Councilmen Presents Gerow, Krimmel, Love, Selby and Binder.
Councilmen Absents None.
READING OF'alu S OF PREvroUS MEETINGS.
The minutes of the regular meeting held on the 26th day of Aprils
1929, were read. No errors or omissions appearing, it was moved by
Councilman Love, seconded by Councilman Krimmel, that the minutes be
approved as read. Carried.
The minutes of the adjourned regular meeting held on the lot dqy
Of Yey, 1929: were read without error or omission appearing, and were
approved as read upon motion of Councilman Gerew, seconded by Councilman
Love, which carried.
WRITTEN CONNWICATIONS.
The fbllowing communications were read and disposed of as indicated:
J. We CHARLEVILLE, Chairman, Executive Committee, dated April 25th,
19290 advising that the Committee of private citizens and public officials,
who are cooperating with the School of Citizenship and Public
Administration Short Course of the University of Southern California,
are arranging a civic progress banquet to be held Tuesday, May 14ths
19299 and extending an invitation to the members of the City Council to
attends suggesting also that upon receipt of reservations the Committee
will mail tickets to the Council. The Clerk was instructed to mak*
three reservations.
WALTER J. LITTLE, Assemblyman, 62nd District, stating that he will
support Senate Bill No. 652 as amended, as requested in the Councils
telegram of April 27th. Ordered filed.

None. REPORTS OF STANDING CON[ITTEES•
REPORTS OF OFFICERS & SPECIAL CMWTTEES.
The City Engineer reported that a representative of the Beverly Rills
Nursery had examined those of the Arizona Cypress trees on Main Street,
which appear to be in an unhealthy condition, and stating that he is dubious
about the said trees thriving in this locality, as this particular specie
Is susceptible to salt air. He recommended that these damaged trees be
replaced with Monterey Cypress, which are adaptable to local climatic
conditions. No action taken.
The City Engineer reported that a wooden cover can be placed on the
garbage bin and a catch basin to trap the water when the bin is washed out
be built under the same and connected to the sewer, all at a cost not to
exceed $50.00. It was thereupon moved by Councilman Krimmel, seconded
by Councilman Gerow, that the construction of a cover for the garbage
hopper and a catch basin with sewer connection under said hopper, be and
the same is hereby authorized, at a cost not to exceed $50900. Carried by
the following votes
Ayes: Councilmen Gero w, Krimmel, Love, Selby and Binder.

The City Attorney thereupon presented the Form of Agreement to Purchase
and Sell Garbage between H. H. Lewis and the City of El Segundo, as prepared
in his office, which said form was thereupon, by general consent,
informally approved; following which it was moved by Councilman Love,
seconded by Councilman Gerow, that the amount of the bond for faithful
performance of said contract be fixed at the sum of $200.00, this amount
appearing to be ample under the circumstances. Motion carried unanimously.
The City Attorney reported further conference with Mr. Creer
respecting a right- of -weq for street purposes through the Mary H. Spires
Estate and that Mr. Creer feels that if any portion of said estate is
required for the opening or extension of Mariposa Avenue, the same should
be acquired through a condemnation action initiated by the City.
The City Attorney reported also further conference with Mr. Milliken,
representing heirs of the Dinsmore Estate, with respect to acquiring
property East of Arizona Drive for the extension of Mariposa Avenue,
and that Mr. Milliken requested additional time for further conference
with his clients.

Moved by Councilman Love, seconded by Councilman Selby, that the
demands be allowed and warrants drawn on and paid out of the General Fund
covering the same. Carried by the following votes

NEW BUSINESS.
The City Engineer was authorized to experiment with a product
known as Bitumuls, on a portion of Richmond Street, South of Franklin
Avenue.
SPECIAL ORDER OF BUSINESS.
The receiving of bids for doing the work or improvement of a certain
portion of %)ir :Avenue, within the City of E1 Segundo, California, hating
heretofore been made a special order of business for the hour of 8s00
o'clock P. M. at this meeting, pursuant to previous action of the City
Council and notices to that effect duly published, the Mayor arose and
announced the hour of 7:59 o'clock P. M. and stated that if any person
or persons present desired to file bids for said work, they should present
the same immediately.
The hour of 8:00 o'clock P. M. having arrived, and all bids being
in, the Mayor declared that all bids for doing the work or improvement
of a certain portion of Oak Avenue, as advertised for were closed.
The City Clerk announced receipt of two bids, whereupon it was
moved by Councilman Love, seconded by Councilman Krimmel, that the Council
proceed to open, examine and publicly declare all of the bids received for
the work or improvement of a portion of Oak Avenue within the City of
E1 Segundo, California. Carried,
The Council thereupon proceeded to open, examine and publicly
declare all of the bids received for the improvement of a certain portion
of Oak avenue, within the City of El Segundo, as contemplated in the

notices calling therefor, given pursuant to Resolution No. 212 of said
Council, passed on the 12th day of April, 1929. Said bids were found by said
Council to be as follows, to -wits

Councilman Krimmel, that Resolution No. 2131, entitleds
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
EL SEGUNDO, CALIFORNIA, AWARDING THE CONTRACT
FOR THE IMPROVEMENT OF A CERTAIN PORTION OF OAK
AVENUE WITHIN THE SAID CITY, AS PROVIDED FOR BY
RESOLUTION OF INTENTION N0. 210 OF THE SAID COUNCIL,
which was read, be adopted. Carried by the following votes
Ayes: Councilmen Gerow, Brimmel, Love, Selby and Binder.
Noes: None.
Absents None.
No farther business appearing to be transacted at this meeting,
it was moved by Councilman Love, seconded by Councilman Gerow, that the
meeting adjourn. Carried.
