1929 APR 19 CC MINJ 121- E1 Segundo, California. April 19th, 1929. A regular meeting of the City Council of the City of El Segundo, California, was called to order at 7s00 o'clock P. M. on the above date, in the Council Chamber of the City Hall of said City, by Peter E. Binder, Mayor, BOLL CALL. Councilmen Presents Gerow, Selby and Binder. Councilmen Absents Krimmel and Love. READING OF MINUTES OF PREVIOUS MEETINGS. The minutes of the regular meeting held on the 12th day of April, 1929s were read. No errors or omissions appearing, it was moved by Councilman Gerow, seconded by Councilman Selby, that the minutes be approved as read. Carried. The minutes of the adjourned regular meeting held on the 16th day of April, 1929s, were read, without error or omission being noted. I t was thereupon moved by Councilman Selby, seconded by Councilman Gerow, that the minutes be approved as read. Carried. SPECIAL, ORDER OF BUSINESS. The hour of 7sSO o'clock P. M. having heretofore been fixed as the hour and date for the receiving of bids for the sale of certain items of personal property of the City of El Segundo, which have been determined by the City Council of said City to be unfit and unnecessary for the use of said City, all as heretofore advertised for sale by the said City Council, the Mayor announced the hour of 7s29 o'clock P. M. and asked if there were any person or persons present who desired to file bids in accordance with the published Notice of Sale. All bids being in, the Mayor announced that the time for the receiving of bids for the sale of said items of personal property, closed. The Clerk thereupon announced that two bids had been received. It was thereupon moved by Councilman Selby, seconded by Councilman Gerow, that the Council proceed to open, examine and publicly declare all of the said bids received for the purchase of said personal property offered for sale by the City of El Segarado. Carried. Said bids were found by said Council to be as follows, to -wits Bid of C. F. Turner, as follows, to -wits "City of El Segundo- Dear Sirss I will per $25.00 for Item Noe, 3, Gasoline Tractor, and Cultivator attached. Yours Truly, C. F. Turner". Said bid was accompanied by check drawn on the First National Bank of El Segundo, payable to City of El Segundo, in the sum of $2.500 Bid of Frank Smith, as follows, to -wits "El Segundo, Cal., Apr. 20th, 1929. Honorable Board of Trustees, City of El Segundo, Cal. Gentl ems ns Pursuant to your published "Notice of Sale of Personal property", upon Y&ich you will receive bids at 7:30 o'clock P. M. this date, I hereby submit the following bid: i For 1 Austin Sprinkler Wagon, designated in the notice as Item No. 1, I will pay you - - - - - - #10.00 For 1 Austin Dump Wagon, designated in the notice as Item No. 2, I will pay you - - - - - - 15.00 For 1 Federal Gasoline Hand Tractor, designated as Item No. 3, I will pay you - - - - - - - - - 5000 $5.00 cash is enclosed as good frith deposit, said sum being 10% or more of the total amount of my bid. Yours truly, J 123 Frank Smith, 1720 E. Palm Ave. P. 0. Box 550, El Segundo, Cal." Said bid was accompanied by currency in the sum of $5.00. Following consideration of said bids, it was moved by Councilman Selby, seconded by Councilman Gerow, that all of the said bids reosi ved for the purchase of said personal property offered for sale by the City of El Segundo, be and the same are hereby rejected, and the City Clerk is hereby authorized and instructed to readvertise for bids on the sale of the said equipment, and to include in the said Notice to Bidders to be published according to law, in addition to the other items to be advertised for sale, one road hone, which the City Engineer of the City of E1 Segundo has reported to this Council is of no use or value to the City of El Segundo. Carried by the following votes Ayess Councilmen Gerow, Selby and Binder. Noes: None. Absents Councilmen Krimmel and Love. WRITTEN CM1MUNICATIONS. The following communications were read and disposed of as follows BOULDER DAM ASSOCIATION, dated April 11th, 1929, being a report of said Association concerning the present status of the Boulder Dam matter. Ordered filed. COUNTY OF LOS ANGELES HEALTH DEPA&1KENT, dated April 15th, 19299 being a report of the activities of said Department within the City of El Segundo during the month of March, 1929. Ordered filed. THE )M"URG & WILLIAMS FEEDING COMPANY, dated April 15th, 1929s, advising that there is now a good road to the ranch of said Company at Inglewood, and suggesting that this City use its plant for the disposal of garbage. Ordered filed. THE HARTFORD STEAM BOILER INSPECTION & INSURANCE COMPAi9Y# calling attention to explosion insurance written by the said Company. Ordered filed. None. REPORTS OF STANDING COMMITTEESo REPORTS OF OFFICERS AND SPECIAL COMMITTEES. In accordance with the previous instruction of the Council, the City Engineer reported that it will cost approximately $40.00 to extend the paving on West Mariposa Avenue a distance of approximately 8 feet from its present terminus. Action in this matter was deferred one week. The City Engineer reported that the meeting called by the Redondo Builders Exchaage for the purpose of discussing a uniform building code, will be held in the offices of said Exchange, Wednesday, April 24th, 1929, at 8100 o•clock P. Y. None. UNFINISHED BUSINESS. NEW BUSIBESs. J Moved by Councilman Selby, seconded by Councilman Gerow, that the purchase Of six No. S scoop shovels, six long - handled square pointed shovels, six 84" bassine brooms, and a barrel of chrome green paint powder, at a total cost of not to exceed $50.00, be and the same is hereby authorised. Carried by the following votes Ayes: Councilmen Gerow, Selby and Binder. Boess one. Absents Councilmen Kriammel and Love. Moved by Councilman Selby, seconded by Councilman Gerow, that the purebase Of four 30 x * tires and tubes, be and the same is hereby authorized, at a cost not to exceed X40.00. Carried by the following votes Ayes= Councilmen Gerow, Selby and Binder. Noels None. Absents Councilmen Krimmel and Love.
