II;G OF MINUTES OF PREVIOUS 7, ETINGS.
The minutes of the regular meeting held on the 6th day of July, 1928,
were read. No errors or omissions appearing, it was moved by Councilman
Gerow, seconded by Councilman Love, that the minutes be approved as read.
Carried.
The minutes of the special meeting held on the 9th day of July, 1928,
were read, without error or omission appearing, and it was moved by
Councilman Krimmel, seconded by Councilman Love, that the minutes be
approved as read. Carried.
WRITTEN CMITNICATIONS.
The following communications were read and disposed of as indicated:
CITY OF LYMMOD, CALIFORNIA, an invitation to visit the new City
Mall at Lynwood, durinE Saturday afternoon and evening, July 14th, 1928.

BO=ER DAR' ASSOCIATION, notice of an annual meeting of said
Association, to be held at the Breakers Hotel, Long Beach, California,
10:00 A. 1.., Saturday, July 21st, 1928, and requesting that a delegation
from this City be present,. Ordered filed.
SOUTHERN CALIFOMIA EDISOIJ C(M :P.ZY, dated July 10th, 1928, an
application for permission to set six 40 ft. poles on the North side
of Oak Avenue, West of Main Street. The application having been
examined and approved by-the Street Superintendent, it was moved by
Councilman Gerow, seconded by Councilman Love, that the permit asked
for be granted, provided the work is prosecuted and completed to the
satisfaction of the Street Superintendent. Carried.

REPORTS OF STA1MING CM21 ITTEES.
Councilman Gerow of the Public Works Committee, stated that in
his opinion the lines Airport will develop into larger proportions than
at present indicated, and that he felt the City should take advantage
of the advertising opportunities afforded by the attendance of multitudes
of people at events taking place and to take place at said Field. He
recommended the erectior of a sign or signs at Collingwood Street and
Redondo Boulevard, adequately advertising this City. By general consent
the Chair appointed a Committee, consisting of Councilmen Cero w and
Krimmel, and Alice Hope, Secretary of the Chamber of Commerce to make
recommendations in the matter.
Councilman Krimmel of the Public Works Committee, reported that
he and the T. ayor had made an inspection of Colling -wood Street in the
vicinity of Sheldon Street, and after stating- the improvements which, in
their esti ,T.,ation, should be made at said location, it was moved by Councilman
Krimmel, seconder' by Councilman Love, that the Street Superintendent be and
he is hereby authorized and instructed to make a fill and widen the roadway
of Collingwood Street, for a distance of approximately 100 feet East of
Sheldon Street, all at a cost not to exceed w150.00. Carried by the following

Councilman Fsimmel reported that he had made an inspection with the Street
Superintendent of the alleys within the City and found that conditions
ۥenerally are good, but that some merchants are not takinE care of garbage,
boxes and other waste matter as they should. Following Councilman Krimmel's
suggestion that a Committee confer with the business men at an early meeting
of the Business ?:_en's association, it was moved by Councilman Gerow, seconded
by Councilman�Love, that Councilman Krimmel and Street Superintendent Gunn
be appointed a Committee to attend the next meeting of the Business :en's
:.ssociation, for the purpose of delivering to said Body the messa€e of this
Council that said Council feels, in view of the refuse collection service
rendered throughout the City, without special charge, merchants should
cooperate fully in preparing' their refv_se and waste for convenient collection
and di spo sal by the City. Carried.
Councilman Krimmel reported that althouEh the Pacific Telephone and
Telegra ?h Comnany has done some of the work it agreed to do when applyin&
for a permit to install certain new i5oles and lines, it has not completely
changed its line constriction in the vicinity of lain Street and Palm - '_venue.

(a80.00) covering our bid on new truck as advertised in the
El Se€vndo Herald Jv1y 6th.
The new ford truck is desiE.ned to meet all F- eneral
hauling requirements. It is rated as a 1 ton truck. It is
powered by the nev model "n" forty horsepower en�:ine, which
gives it the speed necessary for quick delivery and the power
needed for moving- large loads of heavy material.
This truck is equipped with the heavy dkty steel
spoke wheels, a new wheel with unusual strength. The tire
equipment is 37 x 5 on the front wheels and 32 x 6 on rear
wheels.
The transmission is the standard selective sliding
gear type, Frith three forward speeds and one reverse.
The cab is all steel with wide doors and a seat
41 inches in width. The cab is painted with dark green
pyroxlyn _paint.
Delivery can be had on receipt of order.

National Bank- of E1 Segundo, payable to the City of El Segundo in the sum
of 980.00.

The Council then proceeded to consider the matter of bids received
Jvne 29th, 1928, for the sale of certain municipal real property theretofore
advertised for sale. It appearing that the Council has not before it, all
of the information it would like to have concerning the effect of certain
easements across said property, which are of record, and desiring to be fully
informed concerning the matter before the sale of said property- is made, it
was moved by Councilman Krimmel, seconded by Councilman Love, that the matter
of the sale of said lots be taken under further advisement until the hour
of 7:30 o'clock P. 1, %, August 17th, 1928. Carried.
REPORTS 0:' OFFICERS :UM SPECIAL C01,1-ITTEES.
The P.'ayor reminded the Council that sometime ago it had received a
communication from the ? ?unicipal Traffic League, recuesting that representation
from this City attend a meeting, of said League, to be held in San Francisco
in the near future, and that he had received a letter asking for information
as to the number and names of the representatives of this City, who may attend.
It appearing that this City will send no delegation to said meeting, the Clerk
was requested to inform the organization that this City will not be represented.

The City Clerk informed the Council that in accordance with its request,
he had obtained data on several makes of chain hoists, but that the data
is so voluminous, it would require sor.:e study before a decision in the matter
could be reached. Thereupon, it was moved by Councilman Love, seconded by
Councilman Krimmel, that the matter of.the purchase of a chain hoist be
taken under further advisement and the data procured by the City Clerk be
submitted to the Yayor for investiE.ation and report to this Council. Carried.
The Street Superintendent advised of his need of approximately twenty
gallons of paint,-in order to paint guard rails and other municipal property,
whereupon it was moved by Councilman Love, seconded by Councilman Gerow,
that the purchase of not to exceed twenty gallons of paint, from El Segundo
Paint Store, at a cost not to exceed $5540, be and the same is hereby
authorized. Carried by the following vote:

The Street. Superintendent advised that he had repaired the curb in front
of—No. 533 Vhiting Street as heretofore authorized by the Council.
The Street superintendent reported that the work planned for his Department
at the present time requires the employment of additional help, whereupon it
was moved by Councilman Geroz,, seconded by Councilman Krimmel, that the Street
Superintendent be and he is hereby authorized to employ three laborers,
,.-:hose compensation for services rendered the City of yl Segundo, in the Street
Department of said City, shall be at the rate of 62¢ per hour, for such time
as such persons are actually enga€-ed in the services of the Cit of L'1 Segundo.
Carried by the following vote:

The City Clerk informed the Council, that E1 Segundo high School Trustees
will receive bids up to the hour of 7:30 o'clock P. ?_., July 23rd, 1928,
for the sale of easements across certain real property owned by El Segundo
High School District, which the City of E1 Se€undo requires in the opening
of certain new public streets, contemplated by Resolution of Intention No.
154 and Ordinance No. 135 of said City. It was thereupon moved by
Councilman Gerow, seconded by Councilman Love, that the following resolution
be adopted:
RESOLITED, that the Yayor of this City and the City
Clerk thereof, be and they are hereby authorized and in-
stracted to make, on behalf of said City, a bid for that
certain easement for -public road and hi&h ay purposes
hereinafter referred to, in 1-he sum of $5.00, and to file

By general consent the City Engineer was instructed to investigate
methods of disposal of storm waters, which accumulate in several low
spots within the City of E1 'Segundo during stormy weather and to make
his recommendation to the Cou:icil at some future date, together with his
estimate of the cost of providing such disposal methods as he may recommend.

the laying of the water main in Oak Avenue, between -Main Street and
Virginia Street, C. E. Smith be employed as caulker, and that during such
employment in such capacity, the said C. E. Smith be compensated at the
rate of 75¢ per hour. Carried by the following vote:
