1928 AUG 24 CC MINE1 Segundo, Calif. Aug. 24th, 1928. A regular meeting of the City Council of the City of E1 Segundo, California, was called to order at 7:00 o'clock P. M. on the above date, in the Council Chamber of the City Hall of said City, by,the City Clerk, the Mayor being absent. Councilman Gerow was unanimously chosen Mayor pro-tem and he immediately assumed the duties of the MWor. ROLL CALL. Councilmen Present: Krimmel, Selby and'Gerow. Councilmen Absent: Binder and Love. READING OF MINUTES OF PREVIOUS IMETINGS. The minutes of the adjourned regular meeting held on the 16th day of August, 1928, were read, without error or omission being noted, and it was moved by Councilman Krimmel, seconded by Councilman Selby, that the minutes be approved as read. Carried. The minutes of the regular meeting held on the 17th day of August, 1928, were read. No errors or omissions appearing, the minutes were approved as read upon motion of Councilman Krimmel, seconded by Councilman Selby, which carried. The minutes of the adjourned regular meeting held on the 23rd day of August, 1928, were read. No errors or omissions being noted, it was moved by Councilman Krimmel, seconded by Councilman Selby, that the minutes be approved as read. Carried. WRITTEN C01,10NICATIONS. The following communications were read and disposed of as indicated: LOS ANGELES CHAMBER OF CO21ERCE, dated August 219t, 1928, urging support of the one million dollar bond issue that will appear on the County Primary Ballot to be voted Tuesday, August 28th, 1928, to provide Hands for the acquisition of a site for permanent State Building in Los Angeles County. Ordered filed. OAKLAND 1928 ADMISSION DAY CELEBW-.TION CO2TITTEE, extending an invitation to the Council to participate in the Admission Day Celebration to be held in Oakland, California, September 8th, 9th and 10th, 1928. Ordered filed. None. None. ORAL COISFUNICATIONS. REPORTS OF STANDING COWIITTEES. REPORTS OF OFFICERS & SPECIAL C0UNITTEES. The City Clerk reported that pursuant to direction of the City Council given August 17th, 1928, he had conferred with Mr. E. S. Donaldson, local agent of the Pacific Electric Railway Company and has been informed that said Railway Company will cause all of its trains operating on its passenger line within the City of E1 Segundo to come to a complete stop at the El Segundo Avenue and Arizona Drive crossing and to travel at a speed not in excess of four miles per hour over the crossing at Grand Avenue between Washington and Kansas Streets. The City Clerk reported also that he was quoted a price of $25.00 for cleaning the canvas floor covering used in the City Hall Auditorium and that the cleaner advised that certain grease and ink spots in said canvas cannot be taken out. Thereupon the Council decided not to have said canvas floor covering cleaned. A. G. BOGAN of the City Gardener's Department, reported that he is experiencing difficulty in erra.dica'ting certain pests which have appeared upon trees and shrubs of the City and stated that the County Horticulturist 11-239 had suggested the use of a certain chemical spray, which in his opinion would be effective. It was thereupon moved by Councilman Krimmel, seconded by Councilman Selby, that the City Clerk be and he is hereby authorized to.purchase one gallon of Destruxol Emulsion and 4# of Sherwin - Williams Fungi -Bordo at a cost not to exceed $5.00. Carried by the following vote: Ayes: Councilmen Krimmel, Selby and Gerow. Noes: None. Absent: Councilmen Binder and Love. The Street Superintendent asked whether or not the Council desired him to clean the weeds from `certain of the public streets which will be subjected to considerable use during, the National Air Races to be held at Dines Field and after discussion, by general consent he was instructed to remove weeds from streets in ouestion. The Street Superintendent reported his need for one 30 h 3 casing and tube, end one 34 x 4.' tube, whereupon the City Clerk was instructed to obtain prices on the same. PAYING BILLS. The following demands, having had the approval of the Committee on Finance and Records, were read: General Fund General Fund Arthur Budgen 52.26 L. B. Kirkland 30000 Leonard Stuewe 75.00 E1 Segundo Paint Store 98.35 P255.6 Moved by Councilman Selby, seconded by Councilman Krimmel, that the demands be allowed and warrants drawn on and paid out of the General Fund covering the same. Carried by the following vote: Ayes: Councilmen'Krimmel, Selby and Gerow. Noes: None. Absent: Councilmen Binder and Love. 1MU BUSINESS. Moved by Councilman Krimmel, seconded by Councilman Selby, that Resolution No. 203, entitled: A RESOLUTION OF TIE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF EL SEGUNDO, =IFOR IA, FIXING THE FJITES OF TAXES LEVIED IN AND FOP. SAID CITY, SUFFICIENT TO RAISE THE AYOULT OF MIONEY FIXED BY THE SAID CITY COUNCIL IN ORDINL'= NO. 151'TIMREOF, PASSED AND ADOPTED ON THE 23RD DAY OF AUGUST, 1928, AND THE EXPENSE OF COLLECTION OF SiiID AL'OUNT, THE SAID RATES HEREIN FIXED BEING THTT RATES OF TAXES IN AND FOR SAID CITY FOR TIE CURP.ENT YEAR 1928 -1929, which was read, be adopted. Carried by the following vote: Ayes: Councilmen Krimmel, Selby and Gerow. Noes: None. ' Absent: Councilmen Binder and Love.
