Discussion was had, following which it was moved by Councilman Cannon, seconded by Councilman Krimmel, that the matter be- referred to the Superintendent of the Viater- Department for attention.- Carried by the following- vote: Ayes: Councilmen Cannon, Gerow, Krimmel, Love and Binder. Councilman r:rimmel reported havinC investigated the matter of water- proofing a portion of the Southerly -.call of the 'Brady building; adjacent to the City ;all, follo:-Ang, which it was moved by Councilman Gerow, seconded by Councilman -Krimmel, that, in order to waterproof the exterior of the Southerly mall of that certain two story brick buildir{ situated upon Lot 12, Block 21, El Segundo, which adjoins the City lull and which is the property of C. J. 3rady, so that moisture resulting from the irrigation of plant life on municipal property will not damage the interior of the building of the said C. J. Brady, situated as heretAbefore mentioned, the Street Superintendent of the City of E1 Segundo be and he is hereby authorized and directed to waterproof a portion of the Southerly wall of the said Brady building hereinbefore referred to and described, by giving the same a coat of Oronite priming solution and a coat of Oronite roof paint, provided that such work shall not proceed until after the City has obtained from 11r. Brady a permit and release respecting said work, which shall be in form satisfactory to the City Attorney of the City of E1 Segundo. The City Engineer reported to the Council that on Tuesday, the 10th day of April, 1928, F. N. Evans, Sewer Pump Station Attendant, of the City of E1 Segundo, had shovm him a telegram urging the said Evans and his wife to come immediately to Salinas, California, by reason of the dangerous illness of a relative and that under the said circumstances he had given the said Evans permission to leave. The date of the return of the said Evans to his employment being indefinite, it was moved by Councilman Love, seconded by Councilman Gerow, that the following resolution be adopted: RESOLVED, that E. P.organ be and he is hereby employed as temporary municipal Sewer Pump Station Attendant, to assume the duties of said position April 19th, 1928. Until the further order of this Council said E. I'lorgan, as temporary municipal Sewer Pump Station rittendand, shall receive as compensation in full for all services rendered in connection with said employment, salary at the rate of '140.00 per month, which said sur: shall be payable montldy as other city salaries are paid, and in addition thereto, without cost to said employee, he shall be providef the use of that certain municipal dwelling house situated No. 616 'Jest Collingwood Street, and fart her, said employee shall be furnished, without cost, gas, li&hts and water for his domestic uses; it beiaE provided, however, that unless sooner determined by this Council, the use, by the said employee, of the said municipal dwelling house herein referred to, shall not become effective until the first day of 1:ay, 1928. The City Clerk thereupon reported that the returns of the General ?:unicipal Election held on 11onday, the 9th day of April, 1928, in the City of I:1 Segundo, California, vrere then -and had been in his possession in the envelopes containinE them, in the same condition as when received, and the said Clerk presented said returns to the City Council at this time at this meeting. It was thereupon moved by Councilman Love, seconded by Councilman Krimmel, that the City Council proceed forthwith to canvass said returns. _ The said motion was adopted by the following vote: } :yes: Councilmen Cannon, Gerow, Krimmel, Love and Binder. :Toes: None. _lbsent: hone. Said motion being carried, the City Council then proceeded forthwith to publicly examine and canvass said returns, and upon the completion of said canvass by said Council, it was moved by Councilman Love, seconded by Councilman Cannon, that the following resolution be adopted: "=PZAS, a General Yunicipal Election was held and con- ducted in the City of E1 Segundo, County of Los Angeles, State of California, on ITonday, the 9th day of April, 1928, as re- quired by law; and J BEAS, it appears that notice of said election was duly and legally _iven, and that there were three voting precincts established for holding said election, consistinE- in certain instances of a consolidation of the re €-ular voting precincts for holding State and County elections, as the same were established by the Board of Supervisors of Los Angeles County on the 12th day of December, 1927, and now being of record in 3ook 122 of -the 1Linutes of the said 3oa,rd of Supervisors; that election officers were appointed and election supplies furnished, and that in all respects said election was held and conducted and the votes cast thereat received and canvassed and the returns thereof made and declared, in time, form and mariner as required by the General Laws of the State of California governinE elections in cities of the fifth and sixth classes; and, �? The City Clerk then reported that he had caused to be entered in the T• =inute Book a statement of the result of said election, showing all matters required by law to be shown therein, and that he had done so by copying in the resolution last hereinabove set forth in full. The City Clerk then read the minutes of this meeting up to this point, vinereuoon it was moved by Councilman Gerow, seconded by Councilman Love, that the said minutes stand approved as read. Me said motion was carried by the following vote: eyes: Councilmen Cannon, Gerow, Krimmel, Love and Binder. Does: Done. Absent: lone. Alfred C. Cannon then retired from the Board of Trustees (City Council) as member thereof, and the Councilmen elect, John A. Gerow, 1461 George Love and William R. Selby, who were present at the meeting, wt this point immediately took, subscribed and filed the con- stitutional oath of office as required by law, and took their seats st once with Councilmen Krimmel and minder, and the Council as thus constituted proc - -ded forthwith to organize by the election of a Mayor thereof. Councilman Linder was unanimously chosen i:Iayor and e imrediately assumed the duties of his office. No further business appearinE to be transacted at this session, it was moved by Councilman Gerow, seconded by Councilman K.rimmel, that the meeting adjourn until ;Vednesday, the 16th day of April, 1928, at the hour of 4:40 o'clock D.
