E1 Segundo, Cal. August 12, 1927.
A regular meeting of the City Council of the City of
E1 Segundo, California, was called to order at 7 :00 o•cicok
P. M. on the above date, in the Council Chamber of the City
Sall of said City, by the City Clerk, the Mayor being absent.
Councilman Gerow was unanimously chosen Mayor pro -tem and
he immediately assumed the duties of the Mayor.

HEADING OF MINUTES OF PFXVIOUS MEETING.
The minutes of the regular meeting held on the 5th day
of August 1927, were read. No errors or omissions appearing,
It was moved by Councilman Hrimmel, seconded by Councilman
Love that the same be approved as read. Carried.
The minutes of the adjourned regular meeting held on
August 109 1927, were read. No errors or omissions appearing,
It was moved by Councilman Krimmel, seconded by Councilman
Cannon, that the same be approved as read. Carried.
WRITTEN CCMedUNICATIONS
The following communications were read and disposed
of as indicatedt
South -West Builder and Contracter, letter dated
August 4th, 1927, soliciting consideration in the matter
of the publication of legal advertisments of the City. Order-
ed filed.
John H. Miller, Councilman, City of Sacramento, California,
letter dated August 9th, 1927, urging that this city be repre-
sented at the League of California Municipalaties Convention,
to be held at Sacramento, California, September 19th, to 23rd,
1927. Ordered filed.

ORAL CCMtAMCATIONS
REPORTS OF STANDING CMaTTEES.
Councilman Hrimmel, of the Public Works Committee,
reported that Mr. 0. H. Barber had interviewed him concerning
the removal of Eucalyptus trees from the West side of
Eucalyptus Drive between Walnut and Collingwood Streets
and being doubtful as to whether or not the trees are
in the public street or on private property, by general
consent the City Engineer was instructed to investigate the
matter and advise the Council at the next meeting.
Arthur Budgen, City Gardener, reported that in compliance
with a request of the City Clerk, he had inspected an Acacia
Tree growing in the parking in front of 142 Whiting Street,
and in view of the fact that it leans decidedly to the
East, he recommended its removal. 'Thereupon it was moved
by Councilman Gerow, seconded by Councilman Cannon that the
Street Superintendent be and he is hereby instructed to
remove the Acacia Tree from the parking in front of the premises
situated, No. 142 Vhiting Street. Carried by the abllowing
vote, to -Witt --

City Attorney Woodworth advised that the Automobile Club
of Southern California had submitted to him a form of resolution
concerning the character of all traffic warning, and direction
signs used within the City of E1 Segundo, as required by
Ordinance No. 134, of the City of E1 Segundo. •ith the said
form of resolution there was submitted also a catalogue show-
ing the various styles, kinds and wises of road signs stand-
ardized and erected by the said automobile club. It appear-
ing that the adoption of the said resolution and the approval
and adoption of the types of road signs shown in the said catar
logos would be advantageous to the City of E1 Segundo, it
was moved by.Councilman love, seconded by Councilman Gerow
that the "a of street warning, direction signs and signals
erected and maintained by the Automobile Club of Southern Cal-
ifornia, which are particularly described and illustrated in
that certain catalogue or phamplet entitled: "Illustrations
of the various types of road signs as erected and maintained
by the Automobile Club of Southern California," be and the
same are hereby approved and adopted as the style and type
of all official warning and direction signs and signals to
be used upon the public streets in the City of E1 Segundo,

to, beaffi�is hereby ordered filed in the office of the City

It was thereupon moved by Councilman Love, seconded by
Councilman Cannon, that the following resolution be adopted.
WBEAS. the City Council of the City of 31 Segundo
did, on the 17th day of June, 19270 adopt an ordinance regulat-
ing traffic upon the public streets of said city; and
Wes, Section Three of said ordinance requires
that the Board of Trustees (City Council) shall determine and
designate the character of all official warning and direction
signs and signals erected or to be erected upon the public
streets in said city, and said ordinance further provides that
all signs authorised or required thereunder for a particular
purpose shall be uniform; and
WAS, the Automobile Clnb of Southern California has
heretofore under authorisation of said Board of Trustees, now
W THOUT
City Council cost to this city, provided numerous street warn-
ing, direction signs and signals of a standard character;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that this Council of
said City does hereby designate the street warning, direction
signs and signals erected and maintained by the Automobile
Club of Southern California as the official signs of the
City of El Segundo, the character of which is more particularly
described and illustrated in the pamphlet entitled "Illustra-
tions of the Various Types of Boad Signs as erected and main-
" twined by the Automovile Club of Southern California," which
said pamphlet is on file with the Clerk of this Council sub-
ject to such modifications in the character of said signs
and signals erected by the Automobile Club of Southern Calif-
ornia as may from time to be ap roved by this Board.
AND DOES FURTHER RESOLVE that this Council will not
permit the erection of any warning or direction signs or
signals upon or along the streets of this city, except by
the Automobile Club of Southern California, as long as.that
organization continues such street signposting work in a
scanner satisfactory to this Council and without cost to the
City of E1 Segundo, and that other previous resolutions of this
City Council respecting the use of warning and direction signs
and signals as required by ordinance No. 134 of the City of
31 Segundo be and the same are hereby superefded. The motion
to adopt the said resolution was carried by the following
vote, to -wits
Ayes: Councilmen Cannon, Gerow, Sriemlel, and Love.
Noes: None,
Absents Councilman Binder.
The City Attorney explained the matter of judgments
against the City of E1 Segundo as reported to the City Clerk
in the communication of L. E. Lampton, County Clerk, under
date of July 25, 1927, and no further action appeared to be
necessary in connection with said matter.
]Layor Binder appeared at the meeting at this point,
the hour being 8 :25 o•clock P. M. He iamediately assumed
the duties of the Xeyor, Councilman Gerow thereafter
ceasing to act sa Mayor pro -tem.
The Street Superintendent reported that it will cod;
approximately $15.00 to repair the road -way of Hillcrest
Avenue, in front of the premises of J. S. Randall, so
that free access may be had to the said premises. It
was thereupon moved by Councilman Brimael, seconded
by Councilman Love that said repair be and the same is
hereby authorized, at a cost of not more than $15,00.

UNFINISHED BUSINESS
Moved by Councilman Gerow, seconded by Councilman
Cannon that ordinance No. 139 entitled:
"AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF EL SEGUNDO, CALIFORNIA,
ORDERING THE ESTABLISHIENT OF CERTAIN SET BACK LINES ON
A CERTAIN PORTION OF WAIN STREET WITHIN THE SAID CITY."
which was introduced and read at a regular meeting of
the City Council of the City of El Segundo, held on the
5th day of August 1927, and re -read at this meeting be
adopted. Carried by the following vote, to -wit:
Ayes Councilmen Cannon, Gerow, Kriamiel, Love and Binder.

Councilman Cannon introduced ordinance No. 140 entitled:
"AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF EL SEGUNDO? CALIFORNIA,
EXTENDING THE APPOINTMENT AND COMPENSATION OF THE COMiassIONERS
TO ASSESS THE BENEFITS AND DAMAGES AND TO HAVE GENERAL
SUPERVISION OF THE PROPOSED WORK OF LAYING OUT. "AND OPENING
OF CYPRESS STEM, PEPPER STREET? CEDAR STREET, ACACIA AVENUE,
SYCAMORE AVENUE AND OAK AVENUE IN THE CITY OF EL SEGURDO,
CALIFORNIA, AS ORDERED BY ORDINANCE NO. 135 OF SAID CITY."
which was read.
Councilman %runnel introduced ordinance No. 141 entitled:
"AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF EL SEGUIDO, CALIFORNIA,
FIXING THE AMOUNT OF MONEY NECESSARY TO BE RAISED BY TAXATION
UPON TE TAXABLE PROPERTY THIN AS A REV&MUE TO CARRY ON THE
VARIOUS DEPARTMENTS AND PAY THE BONDED INDEBTEDNESS OF SAID CITY
FOR THE CURRENT YEAR, 1927- 1928.,"
which was read.
It was moved by Councilman Krimmel, seconded by Councilman
Gerow that Neva H. Elsey be and she is hereby granted her
customary annual two weeks vacation, beginning August 15, 1927.

It was moved by Councilman Love, seconded by Councilman
Gerow that the Street Superintendent be and he is hereby authorized
and instructed to repair the Northerly and Southerly Alley in
Block 27, in the City of 11 Segundo, at a cost not to exceed
015.00. Carried by the following vote, to -wits

Absent: None.
It was moved by Councilman Gerow, seconded by Councilman
Krimmel that the meeting adjourn until %esday, August 16, 1927,
