El Segundo, Cal. April 8th, 1927.
A regular meeting of the Board of Trustees of the City of El Segundo, California,
was called to order at 7:00 o'clock P. M. on the above date, in the Council Chamber
of the City Hall of said City by Peter E. Binder, President of the Board.
ROLL CALL.
Trustees Present: Cannon, Gerow, Krimmel, Love and Binder.
Trustees Absent: None.
READING OF bSINUTES OF PREVIOUS MEETING.
The minutes of the regular meeting held on the lot day of April, 1927, were
read. No errors or omissions appearing, it was moved by Trustee Cannon, seconded
by Trustee Krimmel, that the minutes be approved as read. Carried.
WRITTEN COMMUNICATIONS.
The following communications were read and disposed of as indicated:
DR. J. L. POMMOY, County Health Officer, dated April 5th, 1927, stating, in
reply to the Clerk's letter of April 2nd, 19279 that he would at once personally
take up the matter of the uncovered screenings nuisance in the sand hills at
Hyperion and make a report to this Board of Trustees as soon as possible. Ordered
filed.
EL SEGUNDO HIGH SCHOOL BOARD, being advice of the adoption by said Board on
April 4th, 1927, of a Resolution of Intention to sell certain easements for sewer
purposes in the High School tract, located in streets which are now property of
the City of E1 Segundo. Ordered filed.
M SEGUNDO 9AMA8'S CLUB, dated April 7th, 1927, advising of the desire of
various denominations in E1 Segundo to hold an Easter sunrise service, and asking
permission to use the east slope of the Grand Avenue Park for the purpose, and
requesting also the use of the piano on the occasion and moving of the same to and
from the Park. Moved by Trustee Krimmel, seconded by Trustee Gerow, that the
use of the Grand Avenue Park for the purpose of holding an Easter sunrise service
April 17th, 19279 be and the same is hereby granted, and the Street Superintendent
of the City of M Segundo is hereby instructed to cause the city's piano to be
moved from the City Hall to the said Park in time for use on said ocoasion, and
upon the conclusion of the service to cause the said piano to be returned to its
accustomed place in the City Hall Auditorium. Carried by the following votes
Ayess Trustees Cannon, Gerow, Krimmel, Love and Binder.

J. G. PITNEY, dated April 8th, 1927, being an application for a permit to move
a certain dwelling house over and across certain public streets indicated in said
application. Moved by Trustee Gerow, seconded by Trustee Cannon, that the permit
be granted, subject to the moving being prosecuted and completed to the satisfaction
of the Street Superintendent. Carried.
MAE D. LEWIS, dated April 8th, 1927, being an application for permit to make
alterations to her building located 201 -203 Grand Avenue, M Segundo, the materials
to be used in said alterations to be the same as those used in the original con-
struction of the building. Moved by Trustee Love, seconded by Trustee Krimmel, that
this permission be granted, provided the work is prosecuted and completed to the satis-
faction of the Building Inspector of the City of M Segundo. Carried by the
following vote:

A. K. Tennis, Fred Fosterling, Thos. C. Cromer, Wm. C. Grimes, Otho Martin,

Engine Driver for the City of M Segundo. Ordered filed.

OR&L COICMICATIONS.
Mr. Jason Woodyard made verbal application for appointment to the position
of Janitor and Fire Engine Driver for the City of 31 Segundo.
Mr. 0. C. Dwy advised that numerous residents of the City of E1 Segundo have
been urging him to establish a through bus service from El Segundo to Los Angeles
and that he proposes to make application to the Railroad Commission of the State-of
California for a permit so to do. He asked this Board's opinion of the undertaking
and its endorsement, if it approves. It was thereupon moved by Trustee Cannon,
seconded by Trustee Love, that the following resolution be adopted:
WHEREAS, in the opinion of this Board of Trustees, the City of
E1 Segundo has no adequate direct means of passenger transportation
with the City of Los Angeles, California, and intermediate points; and
WHEREAS, El Segundo Transit Company is contemplating applying
to the Railroad Commission of the State of California for permission
to operate a motor bus line, rendering such service;
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that this Board is in favor of the
establishment of such direct bus line service between said City of E1
Segundo and said City of Los Angeles and does hereby request that the
application of said El Segundo nsit Company for permission to
institute such service, be granted.
Carried by the following votes
Ayes: Trustees Cannon, Gerow, Krimmel, Love and Binder.

REPORTS OF STANDING COMMITTEES.
Trustee Krimmel of the Public Works Committee reported as followas That
concrete has been mixed on the sidewalk at Palm Avenue and Hillorest Avenue and
that in the process some was spilled upon the sidewalk, has hardened on the
surface and should be chipped off; that on the East side of Eucalyptus Drive
between Walnut Avenue and Collingwood Street the gutter was washed out by
recent rains; that a pile of sand from the sewer backfill has been washed on the
street in front of 423 West Maple Avenue; that there is a bad depression in the
intersection or Maple Avenue and Hillorest Avenue; that Hillorest Avenue north
from Palm Avenue is practically impassable. Following discussion, by general
consent all of these matters were referred to the Street Superintendent for
attention.
Trustee Binder drew attention to an accumulation of debris at Standard Street
and Mariposa Avenue, and by general consent the Street Superintendent was instructed
to remove the same.
REPORTS OF OFFICERS & SPECIAL COMKITTEES.
City Gardener Budgen reported that cleaning of the parkways on Grand Avenue
from Eucalyptus east has been completed, and that he is now engaged in cle4nibg
the parkways from Concord Street west.
The City Engineer, reporting pursuant to previous instruction, advised that a
survey of Eucalyptus Drive from Pine Avenue to the alley north of Mariposa Avenue
indicated that existing structures thereon, with two exceptions, set back a minimum
distance of twenty feet from front property lines, and thereupon by general consent,
the City Clerk was instructed to prepare a petition for oiaoulation among the
property owners on said street, said petition to be addressed to the Board of
Trustees of the City of El Segundo, with the request that setback lines on said
street be established'by ordinance.
The City Engineer announced that he was delivering to the City Attorney,
boundary line descriptions of Fire District No. 2 as it is proposed to be amended,
also of proposed Fire District No. 1 -A.
The City Engineer also presented to the Board for approval, Reroofing
Specifications No. 1, Flooring Specific"ions No. 1, Reroofing Specifications No. 2,

Louvre Specifications No, 1, Specification No. 1 for partition walls, Retinting
and Refinishing Specifications No. 1, together with Drawing No. D 270405, for
use in connection with certain of the foregoing specifications, all of which
were examined and considered by the Board. It was thereupon moved by Trustee
Love, seconded by Trustee Gerow, that Reroofing Specifications No. 1, Flooring
Specifications No. 1, Reroofing Specifications No. 2, louvre Specifications No.
1, Specifications No. 1 for Partition Walls, Retinting and Refinishing
Specifications No. 1 and Drawing No. D 270405, be and the same are hereby
approved and ordered filed in the office of the City Engineer. Carried by the
following vote:
Ayes: Trustees Cannon, Gerow, Krimmel, Lore and Binder.

MW BUSINESS.
Moved by Trustee Love, seconded by Trustee Gerow, that the Street Superin-
tendent be and he is hereby authorized and instructed to connect the building owned
by the City of E1 Segundo, located No. 803 East Grand Avenue, with the public
sewer. Carried by the following vote:
Apes: Trustees Cannon, Gerow, Krimmel, Love and Binder.

Absent: None.
Trustee Binder advised that during a verbal conversation had with Mr. J. C.
Abshier on the 6th inst., Mr. Abshier resigned his position as janitor and fire
engine driver. It was thereupon moved by Trustee Love, seconded by Trustee
Gerow, that the following resolution be adopted:
RESOLVED, that the verbal resignation of J. C. Abshier as Janitor
and Fire Engine Driver, tendered Peter E. Binder, President of the
Board of Trustees, on or about 5 :00 o'clock P. M., the 6th day of
April, 1927, be and the same is hereby accepted as of that date, and
In view of said resignation, said offices be and the same are hereby
declared vacant as of the 6th day of April, 1927, and that the act
of the President of this Board of Trustees in arranging for George
MoLauchlin and Kenneth E. Campbell to perform the duties of the
office, pending its being filled permanently, be and the same is
hereby ratified and approved.

Noes: None.
Absents None.
Moved by Trustee Love, seconded by Trustee Gerow, that the following
resolution be adopted:
WAERELS, the order for a galvanized iron hood to be placed
over the chimney in the City Hall, heretofore given Herman Hansen
of Redondo Beach, has not been filed; and
WHERUS, ample time has been given to construct and erect
said hood;
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Clerk of the
City of El Segundo be and he is hereby instructed to cancel the
said order and to procure the required hood elsewhere.

No further business appearing to be transacted at this meeting, it was
moved by Trustee Gerow, seconded by Trustee Love, that the meeting adjourn.
