A regular meeting of the Board of Trustees of the City of El Segundo,
California, was called to order at 7 :00 o'clock P. Ei. on the above date in the
Council Chamber of the City Hall of said City by Peter E. Binder, President of
the Board.
ROLL CALL.
Trustees Present: Cannon, Gerow, Krinmel, Love and Binder.
Trustees Absent: None.

The minutes of the regular meeting held on the 25th day of June, 1926
were read. No errors or omissions appearing, it was moved by Trustee Gerow,
seconded by Trustee Krimmel, that the minutes be approved as read. Carried.

The following communications were read and disposed of as indicated:
MILLIM YcCiLINTOCE, Director, Albert Russel Erskine Bureau for Street
Traffic Research, dated July 1st, 1926, inviting the President of the Board
of Trustees to be present at a conference on street traffic regulations, to
be held in Room 223 of the university of California, Southern Branch, 855
North Vermont Avenue, Los Angeles on Tuesday, July 6th, 1926, at the hour of
9 :00 o'clock A. y:., advising also that on the afternoon of the same day there
will be a session on City Planning. Ordered filed.
PUBLICITY ==TOR, being report of her activities for the month of
June, 1926. Ordered filed.
ORAL COMTITICATIONS.
L'r. Harold D. Dale addressed the Board, calling their attention to a
proposed plan of the County Regional Planning Commission to build a highway
to be known as Southwest Park and Parkways, running in a southeasterly
direction from Arizona Drive and Collingwood Street through Sections 7 and
18 within the City of E1 Segundo, and requested the Board's consideration of
his plan to have the route of said highway changed within the City of E1 Segundo.
By general consent the Board agreed to make a personal inspection during the
coming week of the proposed route of said highway.
REPORTS OF STANDING CMM.TITT:..:S.
Trustee Krimmel of the Public 7Iorks Co. ittee reported that in
accordance with the powers given said Committee at the last regular meeting
of the Board, he and Trustee Gerow had viewed the grounds complained of as
creating a fire hazard. The Committee, feeling the complaint was justified,
had instructed the Street Superintendent to employ boys between the ages of
14 and 18 years, who are on vacation from school,Mbe perform so much of the
work as may be necessary to eliminate the fire hazard and that all boys so
employed be compensated at the rate of 35¢ per hoar.
It was moved by Trustee Love, seconded by Trustee Gerow, that the
action of the Public Viorks Committee in authorizing the employment of
bogs bet-:een the ages of 14 and 18 years, who are on vacation from school,
at the rate of 35r per hour, to eliminate fire hazards created by dry grass
and weeds throughout the city, be and the same is hereby ratified and approved.
Carried by the following vote:

The City Clerk reported that he had received information that the

base of a sign post on the South side of El Segundo Avenue opposite 1!ain
Street has rotted and said post should be replaced.
The City Engineer announced that on the 22nd day of June, 1926, he
had employed L. L. Howell as a chainman in the :Ingineering Department and
had fixed the rate of pay at 62¢ per hour. L'.o,red by Trustee Cannon, seconded
by Trustee Love, that the action of the City Engineer in employing L. L.
?'owell as a Chainman in the :�rgineering Department, to be compensated at
the rate of 62¢ per hour, be and the same is hereby ratified and approved..

Trustee Love advised that the Parent- Teachers Association had again
interviewed him with respect to employing an Athletic Director to supervise
recreation of children during vacation period and he moved that beginning
,uly 12th, 1920, and until the further order of this Board, ".x. P. 1Y. Bennett
be employed as Athletic Director of the City of M Segundo, to supervise and
direct the recreational activities of the school children of the City of M
3eoundo at the Grammar School playero-,::ids, between the hours of 1:00 o'clock
r. M. and 5 :00 o'clock P. 11. each day of each week excepting Sundays, during
the summer vacation period, provided, however, that the Grammar School
Trustees grant permission for the use of the Grammar School playgrounds during
the vacation_ period and condition said grounds for use by said children, and
that as such Athletic Director Yr. Bennett shall be compensated at the rate
of .'35.00 per week. Said motion was seconded by Trustee Krimmel and carried
by the following vote:

The City Clerk advised that when repairing the Chevrolet dump truck as
heretofore ordered by this Board of Trustees, it had been discovered that
the cost of same would. approximate X100.00 instead of ;85.00 as previously
allovied. It was thereupon moved by Trustee Love, seconded by Trustee Krimnel,
that the appropriation heretofore made for repairing the Chevrolet dump truck
of the City of Z1 Segundo be increased from :85.00 to ;100.00. Carried by

Trustee Love suggested that pedestrian lines be repainted on E1 Segundo Avenue,
Richmond Street and elsewhere throughout the City where necessary, as well as
parking lines.

of this Board, the employment of 0. F. Peasnall at the rate of ;1.00 per hour, to
obtain the names and addresses of certain property owners for use in connection with
various street improvements under way within the City of E1 Segundo and to perform
certain engineering services for the Engineering Department of the City of J1
Segundo, be and the same is hereby authorized and approved, said emn_loyee to begin
such services July 6th, 1926. Carried by the following vote:

The City Engineer advised that a cupboard and a workbench are needed at the
Collingwood Street sewer pump station and a cupboard is needed at the Standard
Street pump station. By general consent this work was authorized, to be performed
by P. D. Gardner and r 1N. Evans, employees of the City, the cost thereof not to
exceed u50.00.
I'oved by Trustee Love, seconded by Trustee Krimmel, that the Superintendent
of the :Dater Department be and he is hereby authorized and instructed to install
sprinkler systems in the yards of the sewer pump stations at Collingswood Street
and Bonita Vista Avenue, and at Standard Street and Thin Street, at a cost not to
exceed :,�?'125.00. Carried by the following vote:

it is the desire of this Board of Trustees to
relieve each of the police officers and the sever tender from
duty one day each week; and

passed and adopted on the 5th day of June, 1925, the Fire
Engine Driver has been granted relief on certain days throughout
the year; and
it appears that it will be more satisfactory and
advantageous to have one person regularly assigned to the relief
of the respective employees herein mentioned;

order of this Board it shall be the duty of the employee filling
said position to relieve the regular fire eng -ine driver on each

each of three police officers one day each week, said day for
each officer to be fixed and determined by the City 1'arshal; also
to relieve the Seger `Fender one day each week, said day to be
fixed and determined by the City Engineer. In the prosecution
of the duties herein fixed for said Special Relief '..':an, his hours
of employment per day shall conform to those required of the
employee he is relieving,,except as to the relief of the re,klar
fire engine driver, and when relieving this employee, his hours
shall conform to those heretofore fixed by this Board of Trustees
in that certain resolution adopted at a regular meeting thereof,
held on the 51th day of June, 1925, and of record at Page P -225
of the minutes of the proceedings of said Board. Said employee
shall be afforded one day of rest in each week and when not
assigned to duty in the Police, Fire or Sewer Departments, shall
report to had be employed under the supervision of the Street
°uperintendent; and

said appointee shall keep such records and perform such
clerical services as may be necessary or useful and until
the further order of this Board, the compensation of said
appointee is hereby fixed at the sum of e25.00 per Month,
which said compensation shall be in fall for all services
rendered as such Street Superintendent's Clerk and which
said sum shall be pajrable monthly as other city salaries
are paid.

Trustee Cannon was excused from the meeting at the hour of
9 :18 o'clock P. 11.

was moved by Trustee Krimmel, seconded by Trustee Gerow, that the meeting
adjourn. Carried.
