!'rustee Smiley, seconded by Trustee Gerow, that Prof. James F. L: nroe be and he
is ^ereby appointed publicity Ymn for the City of s1 3eo ndo to arrange for
suitable advertising of the City on the 22nd day of 17arch, 1924 and that he be
co- i,)ensated in the sum of x:25.00 for such services. Carried by the following

1:r. K. C. Smith re_oresenting Pacific Post :,o. 38 American Legion, advised
the 3oard that his organization had been in communication with the "lur Department
relative to procuring a cannon to be.used for decorative _urposes in a public place
in the City of �1 Segundo, and that it appears that the cannon cannot be furnished
the urnerican Legion, but could be furnished the City of ::1 Segundo if a proper
reo_uest v.ere made by the proper official of the municipality. Following discussion
it-=-s moved by Trustee Smiley, seconded by Trustee Gerow, that the following
resolution be adopted:

El Segundo that the erection of a cannon would be an appropriate
decorative fe =ture inas -uch as said n_roperty adjoins the Club House
of the American Legion, and
i:LAS, Pacific Post 1'0. 38, American Legion, has ascertained
that the year Department rill donate an obsolete or condemned field

procure the same,

and instructed to take such steps as may be necessary to procure

a cannon from the War Department and to have the same
delivered to the City of EI Segundo in the most practical
and economical manner at a cost not to exceed 9150.00 ".

Trustee Gerow of the Public Sa'ety Committee advised having made a
brief study of the Building Ordinance and that in his opinion certain sections
of the same are confusing and hard to understand. He had been in conference
with the Building Inspector concerning the matter and they had agreed to obtain
copies of standard contractors' specifications from which they proposed to
attempt the revising of the existing ordinance or the drafting of a new building
ordinance, vinich will more clearly and "definitely define specifications for the
erection and construction of buildings within the City of El Segundo.

The City Clerk reported that the County Horticulture Department had
promised to send a representative here during the coming week to advise with
the Street Superintendent as to the methods of eradicating the mealy -bug nuisance.

be and he is hereby authorized and instructed to prepare an estimate of the cost of
improving Franklin Avenue from Loma. Vista Street to the Westerly City Limits with a
macadam veneer pavement. Carried by the following vote:

The City Attorney advised that he would be required to leave for San Jose at
8:00 o'clock P. : .1. 11arch 19th, 1924 and would not return until 9 :00 o'clock A. 1%
:arch 24th, 1924, but that in his absence the legal affairs of the City would be
taken care of by either Mr. 'hite or Dr. Mills, attorneys in his office.
No further business appearing to be transacted at this meeting, it was moved
by Trustee Smiley, seconded by trustee Gerow, that the meeting adjourn. Carried.
