El Segundo, Cal. June 17th, 1924,
The Board of Trustees of the City of El Segundo, California, met in regular
session in the Council Chamber of the City Hall of said City at the hour of 6:30
o'clock Pe Y. on the above date. The President of the Board being absent, Trustee
Gerow was unanimously chosen President pro -tem and -be.immediately assumed the duties
of the President and formally called the meeting to order. The City Clerk being
absent, the President appointed Trustee Love as Clerk pro -tem.

READING OF MINUTES OF PREVIOUS MEETING.
- The minutes of the regular meeting held on the 10th day of June, 1924,
were read. No errors or omissions being noted, it was moved by Trustee Love, seconded
by Trustee Cannon, that the minutes be approved as read. Carried.
WRITTEN COMMUNICATIONS. -
The following communieations were read and disposed of as indicated:
JAY L. SMITH, Chairman, E1 Segundo Grammar School Trustees, asking that the
City take over supervision of -a portion of the Grammar School - playgrounds during
the summer months. Discussion ensued relative to the liability that might be
assumed by the City in so doing,-and it was moved.by Trustee Love, seconded by
Trustee Cannon, that the matter be laid over for one week for consideration and
that the City Clerk be and he- is- hereby instructed to write the El Segundo Gram mr
School Trustees, asking them to meet with this Board of Trustees at their next
regular meeting to be held June 24th, 1924 so that the matter might be gone into
more fully. Carried.

REPORTS OF OFFICERS & SPECIAL COMMITTEES.
The City Engineer reported that Mr. Butler of the County Road Department had
called upon him and the Street Superintendent with reference to repairing the
approach to E1 Segundo Avenue from the Inglewood- Redondo Boulevardq and that he had
advised Mr. Butler that the City of El Segundo would be willing to furnish all labor
in connection with the needed improvement, providing the County of Los Angeles would
furnish the materials. Mr. Butler promised to take the matter up with the proper
authorities and to advise the City Engineer their decision in the mutter.
The City Attorney advised with reference to stand -by charges against vacant
property, that he had procured from Olmsted & Gillelen a report made up by them with
reference to such charges, and that he had written the League of California
Municipalitles, the City Attorney of Richmond, the City of Alameda and was also taking
the matter up with the Railroad Commission. At this meeting he had received no
replies from the parties written to, but he expected to be able to report in detail
at the neat regular meeting of the Board.
The matter of licensing plumbers and electricians within the City of E1
Segundo was brought up for discussion and the City Attorney read to the Board
ordinances covering this matter which are in use elsewhere. After the reading of
these ordinances it was moved by Trustee Cannon, seconded by Trustee Love, that the
matter of the adoption of ordinances providing a license fee of $50.00 and a Board
of Electrical and Plumbing Examiners be laid over one week for consideration. Carried.

The matter of the adoption of Ordinance No. 106, said ordinance providing
amendments to Business Ordinance License No. 12, was discussede Some of the
Trustees advised having received complaints from various persons throughout the
town against the licensing of fruit peddlers and bread wagons in particular,
and after lengthy discussion, it was moved by Trustee Anderson, seconded by Trustee
Love, that the matter be laid over two weeks for consideration. Carried:,

NEW BUSINESS.
The Marshal announced the appointments of Ce Fe Turner and Don Co Fugitt
as Deputies and requested the Board's approval of the same. Moved by Trustee
Cannon, seconded by Trustee Love that the appointments be approved. Carried.
Trustee Love advised that Mr. Stuart liandaville requested the use of
fifteen of the City's collapsible chairs on the evening of June 18th, 1924.
Moved by Trustee Love, seconded by Trustee Anderson, that Mr* Stuart Mandaville
be permitted to borrow -fifteen of the City's collapsible chairs for the evening
of Wednesday, June 18th, 19249 Carried.
Moved by Trustee Love, seconded by Trustee Anderson, that the City Clerk be
and he is hereby instructed to order from the Automobile Club of Southern California
four "Close Muffler" signs to be erected at entrances to the City, also one red light
signal to be erected at the North end of Concord Street at its junction with
Mariposa Avenue, all at a cost not to exceed $50.00. Carried by the following votes
Ayess Trustees Anderson, Cannon, Love and Gerow.

No further business appearing to be transacted at this meeting, it was moved
by Trustee Love, seconded by Trustee Cannon, that the meeting adjourn. Carried.
