1924 FEB 13 CC MIN204 II Segundo, Calif. February 13th, 1924. A regular meeting of the Board of Trustees of the City of El Segundo, California, was called to order at 7 :30 o'clock P. M. on the above date in the Council Chamber of the City Hall of said City by Peter E. Binder, President of the Board. ROLL CgLL. Trustees Present: Love, Rueger, Smiley and Binder. Trustees Absent: Gerow. The City Clerk announced that inasmuch as Mr. George Love had subscribed and filed his oath of office as member of the Board of Trustees, he is duly qualified to serve as a member of the Board of Trustees of the City of E1 Segundo and his game was included in the roll call. READING OF I'INUTES OF PREVIOUS =-I TING. The minutes of the regular meeting held on the 5th day of February, 1924 were read. No errors or omissions being noted, they were approved upon motion of Trustee Rueger, seconded by Trustee Smiley, which carried. BRIT= C010MICATIONS. The following commmications were read and disposed of as indicated: PACIFIC TELEPHONE & TELEGRAPH COMP.A.XY, requesting permission to set one 30 ft. pole and anchor on the west side of Main Street, approximately 50 feet north of Maple Avenue. Moved by Trustee Rueger, seconded by Trustee Smiley, that this permission be granted, with a proviso that the work be prosecuted and completed to the satisfaction of the Street Superintendent and with instructions to the City Clerk to advise the Pacific Telephone & Telegraph Company that it is the desire of the Board of Trustees that all poles be removed from Main Street at the earliest possible time in accordance with previous action of the Board of Trustees taken at a regular meeting held January 15th, 1924, and which action said City Clerk is further directed to call to the attention of said company. The City Marshal reported that the dilapidated shed formerly located in the rear of 145 Richmond Street, the repair or removal of which had been requested by the Board of Trustees in an action taken at the last regular meeting of the Board, had been removed February 12th, 1924. UNFINISHED BUSINESS. The matter of the acquisition of certain real property for public park site was discussed, terminating in a motion by Trustee Rueger, seconded by Trustee Smiley, that the following resolution be adopted: TITTIMMEAS, on the 30th day of October, 1923, a petition was filed with this Board of Trustees, requesting consideration of the purchase of the block of ground bounded by Holly Avenue, Pine Avenue, Arena Street and Eucalyptus Drive, for the sum of SIXTEEN THOUSAND DOLLARS, said land to be devoted to the use of a perk and athletic field, and `1i " S, since said date the proposition to sell land to the City of E1 Segundo for public park purposes has been amended so T .05 as to include • 9ther block for a total purchase price of THIRTY THOUSAND DOLLARS, which said sum is exceedingly out of line with the petition heretofore filed with the Board of Trustees and hereinabove referred to, NOVI THMIEFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that it is the sense of this Board of Trustees that it is not justified in taking further action in this matter." Carried by the following vote: Ayes: Trustees Love, Rueger, Smiley and Binder. Noes: Drone. Absent: Trustee Gerows, IM BUSINESS. Moved by Trustee Rueger, seconded by Trustee Smiley, that the City Clerk be instructed to have an electrician provide the Board with an estimate of the cost of changing the lighting arrangement in the Council Chamber, so as to provide better illumination. It was suggested by Trustee Rueger that the Marshal arrange to prevent the parking of motor vehicles on 14in Street between Franklin Avenue and E1 Segundo + Avenue, so as not to interfere with the improvement of said street, it being pointed out that the vacant property at the Northeast corner of Franklin Avenue and Main Street could be used as a parking place. The Marshal agreed to look after the matter. Moved by Trustee Rueger, seconded by Trustee Smiley, that the report of the City Clerk for the quarter ending Dedember 31st, 1923 be published once in the El Segundo Herald. Carried by the following vote: Oyes: Trustees Love, Rueger, Smiley and Binder. Noes: None. Absent: Trustee Gerow. ;206 Moved by Trustee Rueger, seconded by Trustee Smiley, that the demand of C. K. McConnell, Fire Chief, for services rendered in connection with the inspection of fire hydrants and fire apparatus each month be honored when presented in a sum not to exceed 413.00 :per month. Carried by the following vote: Ayes: Trustees Dove, Rueger, Smiley and Binder. Noes: None. Absent: Trustee Gerow. The Superintendent of the Water Department stated that he is not satisfied with the services being rendered by Loomis, Dow & Company, public accountants, who installed the bookkeeping system for the Water Department,.following rich it was moved by Trustee Rueger, seconded by Trustee Smiley, that the services of Loomis, Dow & Company be and the same are hereby dispensed with and the Superintendent of the mater Department is hereby instructed to notify said firm to that effect$ and to hire other recognized public accountants to perform such services as the ,,'ater Department may require. Carried. No further business arising to be transacted at this meeting, it was moved by Trustee Smiley, seconded by Trustee Rueger, that the meeting adjourn. Carried.
