A regular meeting or the Board of Trustees of the City of El SeSundo,
California, vvras called to order at 7 :30 o'clock P. :3. on the above date in the
Council Chamber of the City-Hall of said City by 7illiam C. Bryson, President of
the Board.

The minutes of the reZular meeting held on the 9th day of October, 1923,
were read. No errors or omissions being noted, they were approved upon motion
of Trustee Binder, seconded by Trustee Smiley, which carried.

The proposition of the Sausal- Redondo rater Company No. 1, as submitted in
letter form-, offering to sell to the City of El Segundo its producing and dis-
tributing s7stem, together with certain real property described in a document
entitled: "Description of aeal Property of the Sausal- Redondo -Water Company System
No. 1" attached to said letter, having been approved as to form by the City Attorney,

it was moved by Trustee Rueger, seconded by Trustee Smiley, that the following
resolution be adopted;
"RESOLVED, that the Board of Trustees of the City of a
Segundo, California, on behalf of said city, hereby accept
the proposition of the Sausal- Redondo Water Company i1q. 1
as presented to this Board of Trustees this date in their
communication dated October 9th, 1923, and signed by a. B.
Bennett and H. A. Crowell, President and Secretary respectively
of said organization, to sell and deliver to the City of E1
Segundo for the sum of :;,:8450.00 the entire water system of
said company, both producing and distributing, together
with certain real property described in a portion of said
communication and
BE IT FL'RTM R SOLVM that a warrant be drawn on the ,'ater
Works Bonds Election 1922 Fund in the sun of ;$8450900 in
favor of the First National Bank of El Segundo, and de-
posited with said Bank for use in an escrow to be opened
by the City Clerk in which said bank shall be authorized and
instructed to pay said sum to said Sausal - Redondo Water
Company :To. 1 when it is able to deliver to the City of E1
Segundo deeds and Title Insurance Certificate showing title
to said property vested in the City of E1 Segundo free and
clear of encumbrances including all State, County and !Iunicipal
taxes for the fiscal year 1923 -1924, all of which documents
shall first have indorsed thereon the approval of the City
Attorney of the City of E1 Segundo."

SPECIAL,ORDER OF BUSINESS.
The hour of 8:00 o'clock P. M. having arrived, the President arose and
stated that the matter of the hearing of the protests and objections against
the work or- improvement of Main Street under Resolution of Intention No. 63
having been regularly adjourned-and continued until this hour, the Board would
now hear and consider any arguments or objections which might be raised by any
persons present in support of the written protests and objeotions which have
been filed in the said matter.
Thereupon Sirs. Pearl Draggoo, airs. Josephine Slicker, Messrs. M. Slicker:
J. R. Black, J. E. Bird and Mrs. K. E. Campbell addressed the Board with
reference to the said matter, voicing their objections and Messrs. W. Wo Larson
and Co S. Whitehead spoke in favor of the improvement.
The Board thereupon, all persons having been heard who cared to address
the Board on the matter, proceeded to consider the matter of the said protests
and objections and after such consideration, it was regularly moved by Trustee
Smiley, seconded by Trustee Rueger, that Resolution ISo. 66, entitled:

The City Clerk presented to the Board a new form of contract rre-ared and
submitted by the-County neal-h Cfficer covering the services of his Department which
are furnished to the City of El Segundo. By general consent the docur,ent w t.s re-
ferred to the City Attorney for examination and report to the Board at its next regular
meeting.
The City Clerk informed the Board that Howard Jones, :fight Watchman, desired
to told; his annual t-.-.,o weeks vacation beginning October 18th, 1923. Moved by trustee
Rueger, seconded by Trustee Smiley that this permission be granted. Carried.
XoVed by Trustee Rueger, seconded by Trustee Smiley, that the Street
Superintendent be and he is hereby authorized and instructed to eliminate the sandy
condition of Lomita Street north of Grand Avenue by spreading thereon oil cake
which may be procured from the sides of Grand Avenue. Carried by the following vote:
Ayes: Trustees Binder, Gerow, Rueger, Smiley and Bryson.

The Superintendent of the dater Department advised the Board that it
appears that cne of the wells is caving in and that he is afraid irreparable darzge
nay be done to the well or the pump or both unless i=iediate remedial measures are
taken. Moved by Trustee Rueger, seconded by Trustee Smiley, that the Superin-
tendent of the Water Department be and he is hereby authorized to procure such
expert advice as he may deem necessary in the prerd ses. Carried by the following
vote:
Ayes: Trustees Binder, Gerow, Rueger, Smiley and Bryson.

Moved by Trustee Gerow, seconded by Trustee Binder that from and after the �-
first daffy of October, 1923 the members of the it Segundo Volunteer Fire Department
be paid w3.50 each for actual attendance at fire drills, but in any event not to
be paid exceeding two drills per man per month, which said sum shall be payable
quarterly as said volunteer firemen have been previously compensated. Carried by
the following vote:
