A regular meeting of the Board of Trustees of the City of ZI Segundo," Cali-
fornia, was called to order at 7:30 o'clock P. M. on the above date in the Council
Chamber of the City Hall of said City by - Vibliam Co Bryson, President of the Board.
ROLL CALL.
Trustees Present: Gerow, Rueger and Bryson.
Trustees Absent: Binder and Smiley.
Trustee Binder appeared during the reading of the minutes, the hour being 7 :35
o'clock P. i2e and iraaediately took his seat.

7 :37 o'clock P. M. and immediately took his seat.
READING OF MINUTES OF PREVIOUS MEETING.
The minutes of the regular meeting held on the 25th day of September, 1923
were read. No errors or omissions being.noted, they were approved upon motion of
Trustee Binder, seconded by Trustee Rueger, which carried.
WRITTEN COM MICATIONS.
The following communications were read and disposed of as indicated:
S. J. WILSON, a contractor who is erecting the municipal building in the
rear of the City Hall, explaining the reasons for the delay in the completion of
said building. Ordered filed.
EL SEG=X POST NO. 38, AMMICAr' LEGION; requesting permission to remove
three acacia trees at present in the parking on the East side of Concord Street
North of Franklin Avenue and to replace the same with Cocos Hermosa Palms.
Moved by Trustee Rueger, seconded by Trustee Smiley, that this permission be
granted, subject to the same being prosecuted and completed to the satisfaction
of the Street Superintendent of the City of E1 Segundo. Carried.
Standard Encamquent No. 549• I.O.O.F., requesting permission to display
from one of the windows on the East side of the City Hall Auditorium an electric
sign shoving Three-Links, upon the three evenings of each week when branches of
the Odd Fellows Lodge hold meetings, namely, Monday, Thursday and Friday. Moved
by Trustee Smiley, seconded by Trustee Rueger, that this permission be granted.
Carried.
ORAL COMMUNICATIONS.
Mr. H. A. Crowell, Secretary of the Sausal- Redondo mater Compan No. 1,
on behalf of said Company, presented to the -Board of Trustees a proposition in
ieriting, agreeing to sell the personal property of said Company to the City of
El Segundo for the sum of $7450.00, a-s well as a document purporting to give the
legal description of certain property which he stated the We I. Hollingsworth .
Company had agreed to sell to the City of E1 Segundo for the sum of $1000.00. .
These documents' not meeting the legal requirements of the City Attorney and the
description of the property mentioned being such that it-was not easily traced
on the official maps of the City, it was moved by Trustee Smiley, seconded by
Trustee Rueger, that the documents and the matters to which they pertain be referred
to the City Attorney and the City Engineer for report to this Board at its next
meeting. Carried.
REPORTS OF STANDING CC=ITTMS*
For the Public Works Committee, Trustee Binder reported having had Mr.
F. H. Jensen investigate the trouble with the furnace in the City Hall, which
proved to be a cracked nipple between two of the sections. He advised also
having authorized Mr. Jensen to employ necessary help and to procure the necessary
material to repair the furnace, which work will be completed upon his receipt of
the necessary nipples.
The matter of uaiforp method of perking of vehicles on Richmond
Street was discussed without any definite action being taken.
REPORTS OF OFFICERS AND SPECIAL CO24ITTEES.
The City Attorney reported that complying with the Boards instructions to
revise and codify the ordinances of the City of El Segundo, the City Clerk, the
City Engineer and himself had started.the work and were making progress.
UNFINISHED BUSI i%'ESS.
The City Marshal reported having visited the Cities of Redondo, Torrance,
Hermosa and Santa Monica for the purpose of ascertaining the kinds of jails or
jail cells in use in these cities. He had satisfied himself with respect to the
type of jail best suited to the needs of Z Segundo, the cost of which would exceed
V300.00, following which it was moved by Trustee Rueger, seconded by Trustee Binder,
tha t � City Clerk be and he is hereby authorized and instructed to advertise for
twjjail cells, specifications for the same to be prepared by the. City Marshal.
Carried.
The Superintendent of the Mater Department advised that a "larger quaftity
of 4" pipe than that ordered will be needed by his department in order to complete
certain proposed changes and leave a supply of such pipe on hand for emergency
purposes, following which it was moved by Trustee Rueger, seconded by Trustee Smiley,
that the City Clerk be and he is hereby authorized and instructed to advertise for
bids on 5000 feet of 4" cast iron pipe. Carried by the following vote:
Ayes: Trusteew Binder, Gerow, Rueger, Smiley and Bryson.

1st, 1923, and until the further order of this Board, the compensation of H.
Jones as Night Watchman be and the same is hereby increased from 0140.00 per
month to 0160.00 per month, which said sum shall be payable monthly as other
city salaries are paid. Carried by the following vote:

Moved by Trustee Smiley, seconded by Trustee Rueger, that the following
resolution be adopted:
"RESOL D, that the City Clerk engage the El Segundo Band
at a cost not to exceed $5040 to play a concert on the 5th
day of October, 1923, for the entertainment of the public of
the City of El Segundo, California, and the inmates of the
Children's Hospital ",

Moved by Trustee Rueger, seconded by Trustee Smiley, that an addressograph
and accessary accessories as recommended by the Superintendent of the Water Depart-
ment be ordered from the Addressograph Company at a cost not to exceed $140.00.

Moved by Trustee Rueger, seconded by Trustee Smiley, that the City Clerk
be and he is hereby authorized to purchase six gasoline coupon books for use of
the "later and Street Departments. Carried by the following vote:

loved by Trustee Rueger, seconded by Trustee Bailey, that the use of the
Chevrolet roadster recently purchased by the City be placed under the control
of R. T. Hutchins, City Engineer. Carried.
Trustee Binder drew attention to the fact that the City Hall building is
in need of minor repairs, following which it was moved by Trustee Rueger,
seconded by Trustee Smiley that the City Clerk be'and he is hereby authorized to

employ competent mechanics to make such repairs as are needed in the City Hall.
