A regular meeting of the Board of Trustees of the City of E1
Segundo, California, was c -.11ed to order at 7:30 o'clock P. 1`.. on the
above date in the Council Chamber of the City Hall by Gilliam C.
Bryson, ?resident of the Board.
ROLL CALL.
Trustees Present: Binder, Davis, Smiley and Bryson.
Trustees Absent: Rueger.

The minutes of the regular meeting held on the 10th day of I-ay,
192? were read and no errors or omissions appearing, they were approved
upon notion of Trustee Davis, seconded by Trustee Smiley, which
carried.

Trustee Davis of the Public Safety Committee advised that
LTr. Adams, having changed his plans to immediately build upon his
lot, had reconsidered his request that the house for the auxiliary
fire hose reel be removed and had granted permission for the building
to remain, agreeing to give two months notice before he would require
its removal.
Trustee Davis of the Public Safety Committee started discussion
with reference to widening the doors into the fire engine room and
repairing the arch over the doorway. T,�ie matter was then referred to
the President of the Board of Trustees for recommendation, awaiting
which, action was delayed one wee?..
Trustee Davis of the 'ublic Safety Committee reported that he
had authorized the fire engine to be driven out of the fire house

or inspection on "hursdays and Sundays.
Trustee Davis of the Public Safety Committee stated his belief
that the fire engine should be equipped with tetra - chloride
type of fire extinguishers and it was moved by Trustee Davis, seconded
by Trustee Smiley that the City Clerk be authorized to purchase two
LaFrance No. 4 Fire Extinguishers at a cost not to exceed Twenty
Dollars plus freight. Carried by the following vote:
Ayes: Trustees Binder, Davis, Smiley and Bryson.
Noes: None.
Absent:Trustee Rueger.
Trustee Binder of the Public `,orks Committee reported having
intervier,ed Hr. R. J. Dohle regarding the progress being made in the
collection of the amount of money necessrary for the improvement of
Virginia Street between Grand Avenue and E1 Segundo Avenue and that
`r. Dohlc advised having the promises of the resident property owners
that their respective amounts would be paid ne:,t pay day.
Trustee Binder of the'ublic Service Committee, reporting in
the matter of his investigation of the agreement between the City of

E1 Segundo and the Electric Shop for the furnishing of electric
lamps for street lighting purposes to the City of El Segundo, advised
that the contract was o.k. when made, but that he believed the re-
lamping of these signs by the Street Department would be more satis-
f artory, which belief was concurred in by the entire Board.
Trustee Bryson suggested ex-.erimenting with carbon lamps in one
side of one of the street signs to ascertain if the signs could not
be operated more economically by such lamps and by general consent the
Cite Clerk was instructed to purchase the required number of carbon
lamps.

The City Clerk advised the Board that his office was in need of
a numbering machine and a stapling machine. Moved by Trustee Smiley,
seconded by Trustee Davis that the City Clerk be and he is hereby
authorized to purchase a Bates five -wheel numbering machine and a
HotchTciss stapling machine at a cost not to exceed -e36.00. Carried
by the following vote:
Ayes: Trustees Binder, Davis, Smiley and Brysoh.
Noes: None.
Absent: Trustee Rueger.
Loved by Trustee Smiley, seconded by Trustee Binder that the

symjathy to Carl E. Rueger in his bereavement; -that
Thursday, the 18th day of Kay, A. D. 1922, from the
hour of 12:00 o'clock Noon be declared a holiday for
all municipal departments of the City of E1 Segundo;
that a copy of this resolution be spread upon the
records of this Board of Trustees and that a copy
thereof be transmitted to the bereaved.

Trustee Binder advised the Board that the Building Inspector,
P. D. Gardner, had found it necessary to leave the city hurriedly
and had requested permission so to do from such,trustees as he was
able to see, namely, Trustees Bryson, Binder and Davis, each of
whom gave his consent. It being understood that such absence
be included in the customary vacation period. It was then moved
by Trustee Binder, seconded by Trustee Smiley, that Building
Inspector P. D. Gardner be granted the customary two weeks
vacation, beginning May 15th, 1922. Carried by the following vote:
Ayes: Trustees Binder, Davis, Smiley and Bryson.
Noes: None.
Absent: Trustee Rueger.

Victor D. McCarthy be and he is hereby appointed Building Inspector
ro -tem to serve during the absence of P. D. Gardner while on
vacation. Carried by the following vote:

Absent: Trustee Rueger.
No further business appearing to be transacted at this meeting,
it was moved by Trustee Smiley, seconded by Trustee Davis, that
the meeting adjourn. Carried.
