A regular meeting of the Board of Trustees of the City of E1
Segundo, California, was called to order at 7:30 o'clock P. ii, on the
above date in the Council Chamber of the City hall by rlillian C.
Bryson, President oZ" the Board.
ROLL CALL.
Trustees Present: Binder, Davis, Rueger, Smiley and.Bryson.
Trustees Absent: None.
READING OF MINUTES OF PREVIOUS LMETING.
The minutes of the regular meeting held on the 23rd day of February,
1922 were read without error or omission being noted. It was moved
by Trustee Binder, seconded by Trustee Rueger, that the minutes be
approved as read. Carried.

The following communications were read and disposed of as indicated:
ALBERT AINSWORTH, application for appointment to the position of
marshal.
J. A. =JTAAD, api)lication for appointment to the position of
custodian of the city* building. These were ordered filed upon motion
of Trustee Smiley, seconded by Trustee Rueger, which carried.
J. L. WARD, requesting an estimate on the cost of constructing a
driveway into his premises at 133 Virginia Street, El Segundo. Moved
by Trustee Rueger, seconded by Trustee Smiley, that the Street Superin-
tendent be and he is hereby instructed to prepare an estimate of the
cost of constructing a driveway into the premises of J. L. Ward at 133
Virginia Street, and that he be authorized to proceed with the con-
struction of this driveway whenever the amount of his estimate, plus
10% is paid to the City Clerk. Carried by the following vote:
Ayes: Binder, Davis, Rueger, Smiley and Bryson.

Absent: None.
LADIES AID SOCIETY OF THE EL SME UIZO 1JETHODIST CHURCH, requesting
the use of the dishes and tableware belonging to the City, on-the evening
of March 7th, 1922. Roved by Trustee Binder, seconded by Trustee Davis,
that this permission be granted, providing the same does not conflict
vrith the plans of the organization renting the City Hall and entitled
to their use*on said date, and provided further that the City* be re-
imbursed for any loss or breakage. Carried.
G.01_0.7ELL FIRE ALAN,%? TELEGRAPH COLTABY, advising that they see no
objection to making an air connection on the air receiver or air line
of the diaphone compressor, for the purpose of agitating the tanks on
the chemical fire engine. Moved by Davis, seconded by Rueger, that the
matter of providing the means of agitating the tanks on the chemical fire
engine with air to be taken from some part of the apparatus used in
connection with the diaphone outfit be referred to the Public Safety
C6nmiittee with power to act. Carried by the following vote:
Ayes: Trustees Binder, Davis, Rueger, Smiley and Bryson.

L SEGUIdDO CHAIMER OF COM=CE, petitioning the Board of Trustees
to submit to the voters at the coming City Election a proposition to bond
•
the City for erecting an addition to the City Hall to meet present
and anticipated requirements. Moved by Trustee Rueger, seconded
by Trustee Smiley, that this letter be filed. Carried.
J. V. VAN EATON, S. R. STANSBURY and T. N. SHAW, being quotations
on various printed matter needed by the city. Following comment on
the same by J. V. Van Eaton and brief discussion by various members
of the Board, it was moved by Trustee Davis and seconded bytTrustee
Smiley that the matter of ordering the forms quoted upon be- referred
to the Finance Committee of the Board of Trustees for investigation
and report. Carried.
ORAL COSY RW CATIONS .
W. C. Grimes informed the B oard that he is in touch with man;•
members of the local fraternal organizations, who wish to support
the matter referred to in the letter of the Chamber of Commerce
filed with the Board this date and who wish to have the matter placed
upon the ballot at the April election.
B. F. Renfro, stating that he wished to substantiate the statement
made by W. 10. Grimes .
REPORTS OF STANDING COLMTTEES.
Trustee Davis of the Public Safety Committee advised that he had
been unable to find a Relief Fire Engine Driver and that the regular
driver worked last Sunday. Upon inquiry it was found that the
Street Superintendent em�pects to be able to provide a man each Sunday,
commencing Sunday, Iffarch 5th.
The matter of improving G rand Avenue from min Street to Eucalyptus
Drive was again brought up and the Street Superintendent reported
that it would cost approximately $1100.00 to fix the South side of
the Street and approximately $1600.00 to fix the North side. It
appearing that there would be a number of advantages in improving
the South side as previously suggested, it was moved by Trustee
Davis, seconded by TrusteeB' inder, that the S=treet Superintendent be
and he is hereby authorized and instructed to improve the South side
of Grand Avenue between Main Street and a point approximately* fifty
feet East of- Eucalyptus Drive with a rock and oil improvement, said
work to be done under the direction of the Public Works Committee.
Carried by the following vote:
Ayes: Trustees Binder, Davis, Rueger, Smiley and Bryson.
Noes: None.
Absent: None.
At this point, the hour being 8:10 P. M., Trustee Smiley requested
the President to excuse him from further attendance st the meeting
owing to illness and he immediately left the Council Chamber.
REPORTS OF OFFICERS AND SPECIAL COMMITTEES.
The Clerk informed the Board that gun cases, gun cleaners and
sulphuric acid, which he had been previously authorized to purchase
for the Police and Fire Department respectively, had arrived.
The Clerk informed the Board that he had received quotations on
a 14" Stillson wrench and 1/2" manila rope as follows:

rope, all at a cost not to exceed $10.00. Carried by the following
vote:

Moved by Trustee Rueger, seconded by Trustee Davis, that Ordinance
No. 84, entitled:
"AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF EL SEGUNDO,
CALIFORNIA, AMENDING SECTION I OF ORDINANCE
NUHBER 31 02 SAPID CITY ENTITLED: "AN ORDINANCE
OF THE CITY OF EL SEGUNDO, CALIFORNIA, REG-
ULATING THE CONSTRUCTION, ALTERATION, REPAIRING,
DEMOLISHING, MAINTAINING AND OCCUPYING OF BUILDINGS
AND OTHER STRUCTURES WITHIN SAID CITY, PROVIDING
FOR THE CONDEMNATION OF BUILDINGS AND OTHER
STRUCTURES DANGEROUS TO PROPERTY, LIFE OR LIMB,

demands be allowed and warrants drawn on the General Fund for the

NEW BUSINESS.
Moved by Trustee Rueger, seconded by Trustee Binder, that the
following Resolution be adopted:
"RESOLVED, by the Board of Trustees of the City of 21
Segundo, that the City Clerk be and he is hereby in-
structed to advertise for election officers to conduct
the general municipal election which is to be held in
said city on Monday, April 10th, 1922, by publishing
such advertisement :.once Tin the El Segundo Herald, a
meekly newspaper of general circulation published and
.circulated in said City of E1 Segundo. Said advertise-
ment shall be substantially in the following form:
"ELECTION OFFICERS 71MTTED
Election officers are wanted to conduct the general
municipal election which is to be held in the City of
E1 Segundo on Monday, April 10th, 1922. Preference
will be given for ability and previous experience.
File your application in writing with the City Clerk,
giving your present occupation and previous experience
in work of this kind.

Trustee D avis drew attention to the non - compliance with the
traffic ordinance of the City of El Segundo, pointing out that on
Richmond Street between Franklin Avenue and El Segundo Avenue,
machines are parked at an angle instead of parallel with the curb as
required and that this form of parking seems to be more popular than
that required by ordinance. General discussion ensued, following
which it was moved by Trustee Rueger, seconded by Trustee Binder,
that the matter of changing the traffic ordinance of the City of
El Segundo be referred to the Public Safety Committee for recommendation.
Carried.
The City Attorney explained that bond buyers usually require
the approval of reputable bond attorneys before purchasing issues
authorized at elections and he recommended the e=ployment of
Messrs. Boardwrell and Matthews as consulting counsel in the matter
of the proposed bond election hereto ore referred to in Resolution
No. 40 of this Board. Moved by Trustee Binder, xmmdd= seconded
by Trustee Davis, that the City Attorney be and he is hereby authorized
to employ Messrs. Boardwell and Matthews as consulting counsel in the
matter of the bond election proposed to be held April 10th, 1922.
Carried by the following vote:
Ayes: Trustees Binder, Davis, P.ueger and Bryson.
Noes: None.
Absent: Trustee S7 miley.
The Clerk asked the Board for a ruling in the matter of the sub-
stitution of two loads of oil cake for one yard of No. 4 rock as
paid for per City Clerk's official receipt No. 754. Moved by
Trustee Rueger, seconded by Trustee Davis, that the substitution of
two loads of oil cake for one yard No. 4 rock as ordered by Mrs. George
Love and paid for as per Clerk's official receipt No. 754 be and the
same is hereby approved and ratified and that the amount of x'4.71
paid for such rock be considered as settlement in full for the oil
cake. Carried.
No further business appearking to be transacted at this meeting,
it was moved by Trustee Davis, seconded by Trustee Rueger, that the
meeting adjourn. Carried.
